In my Troll warrior's story, he began his career desperately trying to join the Kor'Kron elite, albeit unsuccessfully, out of a deep respect for Thrall. He went from adventuring, to assisting in Outland, to becoming a renowned hero by the time he reached Northrend.

After Benedictus fell in the Hour of Twilight, his barrier must have fallen as well. My warrior may not have gone into the fight against Deathwing himself, but in my mind, he stayed behind to hold off the waves of attackers to help keep them out of Wyrmrest, perhaps even leading the charge against him.
