Better yet, expand your vocabulary.

Expand his vocabulary? The irony. You're telling him to use less words by implying he shouldn't curse. Using less words is expansive?

It's fallacious to assume people who curse have a smaller vocabulary than you. My mother happens to be highly intelligent, a lawyer, and a top of the line F-bomber created by the unholy union of Boeing and Lockheed Martin. My score on the verbal portion of the GRE was in the 99th percentile, and I loves me some god damned curse words.
Perkele.

@Magma - I didn't think I needed to explain this comment, but apparently 5 words confused you. By expanding one's vocabulary it negates needing to drop whatever gets caught in the language filter. You should learn the meaning of irony before trying to use it like you understood its meaning.
@Oteo - You do know, it's more than just profanity that get's filtered, right? Don't assume I was just referring to curse words; it also refers to the racist, homophobic and hate epithets that plague trade chat.
And go fuck yourself. :P

increasing my vocabulary means nothing about what I want them to fix. I'd much rather see the actual "swear" or "curse" than seeing #$%^ on my screen, that to me is pretty annoying.

So go into your settings and turn off the profanity filter. Yes, the patch put it back on for everybody by default. Just go in and turn it back off again.

I was disappointed to discover that grapes are no longer filtered out. Boo.

There are a few mods that have like two lines of code that fixed that fucking problem for me. You can find a link in the forums thread about the language filter.

Do I really want to know why they were filtered out to begin with? :-?

So much this. I don't mind resetting it 'once'. I do mind resetting it on every toon every time I log in.

@Edymnion, that'd be fine, except it reenables itself every time you even change toons.

The trouble with the profanity filter is that it isn't language aware. In German, there's the word 'weniger' which means 'less' in English. The profanity filter filters the 'niger' part of the word...

I know this will sound off, but hear me out. I am having so much fun with the broken language filter. A guildie of mine is furious he can't read others swearing so he switches it the second he logs in, and if he forgets to switch it he'll start screaming about 10 seconds into reading trade chat.
I talked a few guildies into fake swearing, as in any time a swear word might work hold shift and type any four numbers so it creates the symbols. example: #(^%
He goes ballistic. And I get to laugh for about 5 minutes straight. Been doing it for a week and it has not gotten old.

I enjoy it. Its fun inserting words they didn't say.
I believe that cursing has a time and a place. There are just some emotions that only cursing can really get across. But, people curse constantly and it just gets old.

Yeah lol that would be pretty entertaining, inserting random characters so that he thinks your swearing would be great, but like someone else mentioned above it also blurs out parts of foreign words because of the filter so you'd need to be creative and add characters to the start and "er" to the end lol i bet he'd be like wtf are they talking about!

@Cyno01 Its an individual setting for each toon, but once you set it it stays. I turned mine back off on the toons I play, and it has not magically re-enabled itself since.

@Edymnion; you're lucky, then. I have five characters I play regularly, and every time I log into them, i have to disable the filter...

You can fix it quite easy.
1 log your toon
2 uncheck filter
3 LOG OUT (dont exit game)
4 when u reach you character screen then wait a bit and exit game
5 fixed
