The Queue: In which Adam recently discovered The Big Bang Theory

For years, people have been telling me to watch The Big Bang Theory.
"Lots of WoW references," they say.
"You'll get the humor and cameos," they told me.
Well, after a bit of prodding from Katie on a boring night a couple of weeks ago, I finally relented. It's a good show, although they need to detail their WoW playing a bit more ... And Age of Conan, really?
Discolando asked:
Q for the Queue: Has anyone heard what will happen to the story in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor once Mists of Pandaria is released? Will Pandas leave their starting zone, travel through time to fight Deathwing, then travel through time to fight Illidan, then travel through time to fight the Lich King, then back to fight Deathwing, then finally back to their original time to do Pandaria stuff?
Yup, pretty much.
If you're asking for the entire old-old-old world quest chains to change, that's just not going to happen. Blizzard has said before that each expansion area should be seen as a chapter, and right now, those chapters are kind of out of order (with the post-Cataclysm Azeroth coming first, followed by Illidan, followed by the Lich King, then back to post-Cataclysm Azeroth). But, this is what happens when you have a game as old as WoW. There's really nothing that can be done.
Peebers asked:
Anybody else not able to gem/reforge some gear items? Haven't seen any word about it.
Check to see that your addons are updated; disable them if necessary. Mine were not allowing me to reforge my gear right away, but once I updated one (I'm not sure exactly which; I use the Curse updater), then everything worked fine.
Josh asked:
Am I the only one who wishes that you weren't forced to sit in Org compared to the other capitals? I mean I personally prefer Undercity. I like its setting, its layout, but because all the important npc's are in Org I would have to be there for most things. Why not have those npc's in each capital, I mean they all share trade chat so why force people to be in one specific city? Hell, Thunderbluff doesn't even get a damn barber shop!
No, I don't think you are at all.
This is a double-edged sword though, and it's hard for Blizzard to strike the correct balance. Everyone is in these cities because everything is there, and sometimes uniquely so. This leads to the other cities' being deserted but a great feeling of community and population within the game at the populated cities. Have you ever played another MMO where the main city is empty? Yeah ... those suck. Blizzard doesn't really want that. But if you space things out too much, then that's what you have.
So what's the correct balance? I don't think there is one; we just have to take what we've got.
Gribflex asked:
Question for the Queuemmunity: In June I became a Dad and, needless to say, there's a lot less time for WoW. I dropped out for a bit, but would like to get back into the game on a casual basis; I can for sure work out one or maybe two nights a week. What I'm wondering about is how to best optimize that time? At the moment, I'm stuck on picking the right class but any other tips are welcome. What would you recommend for a low maintenance toon used mostly for PUGs? Some friends suggested rolling heals/tank to keep the queue times low; other friends say go with DPS as I won't be missed as much if I have to dc on short notice. Thoughts?
Congrats on entering fatherhood!
I'd shy away from tanking and healing. Those two types of characters will force you to have a deeper understanding of the encounter mechanics, especially before you enter the dungeon or raid. That means study time prior (if you don't want to wing it and risk making a critical mistake). DPS is more forgiving, and you're not going to have to worry about occupying such a key position. If you need to leave to deal with your kid as a DPSer, chances are it'll not be a big problem for your groupmates; but if you need to leave as a tank or healer ... well ... game over.
I'd also highly highly recommend joining a casual adult guild, even if you only raid once a week or once a month. You'll be able to get people to run dungeons with in there, and that'll make your experience a thousand times better. Playing the game with other adults who know that family comes first makes the world of difference.

Adam, I am disappointed. :|
This is why we do not watch Big Bang Theory:

The only laughter tracks on sitcoms should be a genuine audience reaction.

BBT is your standard Chuck Lorre production. The humor isn't subtle and the big laughs can be groaners, but it's well executed by the cast.

That cartoon is genius! I couldn't even sit my way through one episode of Big Bang Theory. It's a terrible sitcom masquerading as a geeky show. They try to disguise the fact they're making fun of geeks by putting in references that are just that, references. "OMG he references Battlestar Galactica, I love that! This show totally gets me." yeah but they also made a huge joke about how pathetic the character was for liking BSG. The fact they have a team of people to research geeky stuff for them says it all.
Bellygrub Dec 6th 2011 12:02PM
@Chaosdefined: If you think that's how it plays out then you really haven't watched the show.

Please don't support TBBT, watch Community instead. The writing's smarter, the jokes are better and it doesn't insult you with a laugh track.
terraburn Dec 6th 2011 12:04PM
You're upset because of a laugh track? really?
and lol @ the butthurt nerds who're mad because their "geek pride" is hurt.
The show's hilarious.

Fargo is so boring, I have time to watch both. If I had to pick only one though, I'd pick Firefly.
(see, I have my nerd cred back now, right? Right? .... guys?)

This is what you're laughing at when you watch the Big Bang Theory:

It shouldn't be a joke.

This alone rivals anything ever done on BBT

I do like TBBT, and it is kind of mockery...but i feel is like exaggerating nerd stereotypes, you should be able to laugh about it. They also make non-nerd people super dumb sometimes.
The show is well done, is IT crowd better? Maybe...Community better? Maybe I love them both...but I don't dislike TBBT because I see it as a hyperbole of behavior for everyone in it.
Amaliki Dec 6th 2011 1:20PM
I like The Big Bang Theory and Community but I feel like BBT will still do alright without my views whereas Community needs every view it can get, btw if they cancel Community I will forever shun NBC
Llowe Dec 6th 2011 1:21PM
Amen.
I'm glad to see this reaction from the majority of WI users.
Laughtrack technology should be retired; BBT would not function without it because it's not nearly as funny as it thinks it is.
