GW's greatest draw was its non-grindy nature, the challenge of surviving its missions (which pretty much amounted to dungeons, except you didn't necessarily HAVE to be in a five-player group to get through it...usually), and the freedom to try to figure out different skill builds that you could play around with (granted, its developers were always having to deal with trying to balance the different classes, which sometimes they did successfully and sometimes... not so successfully, AKA the assassin. We always yearned for at least two more skill slots, but that limitation probably made it work better than it would've otherwise, and kept any of us from being too OP.) I didn't max in a day, and I also didn't hire any freebie rides, though. What I did was play with my friend and we explored and leveled and quested and went through the missions at our leisure, learned how to play (and love) our classes properly, and that's how it should be played, at least for a first-time experience. Too many people spoil the game for themselves by trying to max too quickly. Kinda like WoW. But I digress.But yeah, you're right, endgame gear was pretty much irrelevant (as long as you got the max gear, of course). There weren't much in the way of rewards at the end, which is probably the main reason why I moved on to WoW after beating GW. After we beat GW and all its expansions, that was pretty much it for us. But for what it was, it was fun while I played it. Especially the PVP aspect, when it wasn't lagging too badly.GW2 will be radically different though. You obviously haven't seen the trailers. Whether that's bad or good, I don't know, but it does look like something that's going to be more unique, something better than either GW and perhaps even WoW.
