WRUP: And they named him Baradin Fox Van Allen

Last month, I used WRUP to wish our very own Mat McCurley a happy birthday. Today, I'm using it to wish myself a happy birthday. I turn 24 on Sunday. Or maybe I turn 32. Or 27. I don't know ... I'm bad at math. I digress. The point is that many years ago, a child was born in the wilds of New Jersey, a child with the most awesome name on the planet: Fox Van Allen.
All of a sudden, though, I have some competition for my throne. It seems that last month, two Skyrim-loving parents named their child Dovahkiin. (The name translates to Dragonborn in a special fake dragon language that programmer nerds made up.) That said, this week's WRUP asks: If you had to name your baby after a character in World of Warcraft, what would you name him or her?
Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) I'll be spending more time with my warlock and working on random achievements I pick. Yay for fun? Fun. My kid would be named Rhonin, boy or girl.
Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert) I will continue my endless (and likely fruitless) quest for a Crawling Claw in addition to some badly needed cleaning and organizational work at the homestead. As far as naming a baby goes ... huh. Although one could easily stick a million apostrophes in the name to troll the child in anticipation of her teenage years or simply to drive the school registries mad.
I christen thee B'ob.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) Oh, Skyrim. You have eaten my soul. Beyond that, I'll be doing Darkmoon Faire dailies of course, and a bit of raiding as well. A boy, Fiasco Sizzlegrin, and for a girl, Mylra, because I'd want her to be a tiny, angry woman. ... and this is why I do not have children.
Daniel Whitcomb (@DanielWhitcomb) I'll probably be running lowbie dungeons in the hope of grabbing Darkmoon Faire quest turn-ins, on Saturday at least. I'd like to have a pet before it ends, if possible, set a pace for myself. Beyond that, I'll probably be taking both my death knight and my hunter through Raid Finder at least once, just to see what damage I can do. The word "damage" has multiple meanings in this case.
Bonus questions? I'd say Joanna Jes-Tereth for a girl, Anduin Turalyon for a boy.
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) Working nights, Skyrim days. As for the name, how about Hellscream in the middle name slot? Considering babies, it seems appropriate.
Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) (gplus.to/foxvanallen) It's my birthday, so I'm going to be partying. What does a Fox Van Allen party look like? Well, it looks like a WRUP. But sexier.
Joe Perez (@Lodurzj) Honestly, this weekend is going to be spent hitting the new Ramen bar in town, gearing up my hunter alt so I can get her into the Raid Finder, and generally being awesome in game. Also plan on jumping back into some League of Legends, haven't played in a week and I'm feeling some withdrawal.
As far as the bonus goes, Uther. Uther Lightbringer Perez. I think that would be the way to go.
Josh Myers (@elamqt) My mage is done with Raid Finder for the week, is valor-capped, and is at 5/8 normal DS ... so I guess it's time I get some of that done on my shaman, seeing as he's supposed to be my main and such. Beyond that, I totally got roped into seeing Twilight this weekend, so pray for my mental health and safety.
As for the kid? Well first, I'd hope for a boy, because if I had any girl my choices would be narrowed down to characters that just exist as foils to continue a male-centric plotline or villians or amoral characters. Given that, I think I'm going to go with Shade of Aran ... just because.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) I think I'll be pulling more OT at my job this weekend (sadface, but also yay money), so I think Skyrim, Limbo and the Darkmoon Faire all need to wait. I don't know if I should answer the bonus question, since I loathe children and babies with every fiber of my being, but ... if I had to name one, it would be HIGH OVERLORD VAROK SAURFANG. People would know that's a baby you just did not mess with.
Matt Low (@matticus) I can tell you it's not Skyrim! Pumped for the SWTOR release. Not much time for games these days with the Raid Finder. Lots of alt action at least!
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) I really have no idea what I'm going to be playing this weekend because I may or may not be out of town, depending on a lot of stupid circumstances. I would name my kid Grom. That rules ...
Matthew Rossi (@matthewrossi) Skyrim. And then more Skyrim. And potentially after that, Skyrim.
Matthias Shaw-Rossi works, I guess.
Matthew Walsh (@Rhidach) Getting back in the Minecraft, somehow, so I'll be spending a good chunk of the weekend on that. Will likely play some Starcraft II with Dan Desmond and a Canadian RTS-playing supercomputer on Friday, too.
Kael'thas Walsh. I like it. Though I might be dooming the child to a lifetime of setbacks.
Michael Gray (@writegray) I've decided I want to kill Deathwing on one of every class -- on a server where I currently have only two 85s. It's a nice challenge that I can tackle on my own time, without necessarily having to worry about caps and lockouts. (Go, go Raid Finder!)
If I were to stick with something in WoW ... well, I can't go Sylvanas. We named the dog Sylvanas. So, to avoid Horde bias in my home naming convention, I think I'd have to go with Baby Bolvar.
Olivia Grace (@oliviadgrace) A mixture of OMG season 11 Arena yaaaay! and "must level my disco priest!" So yeah, WoW. Oh, and the bonus! I think I would genuinely name a female child either Jaina or Tyrande. A male child? Hmmm. Varian might be workable at a stretch. My immense dislike of babies means this is all very hypothetical!
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel) I will be playing the Gift Knitting game with some Tiny Tower as necessary. I'm undecided as to a boy name, but the girl would totally be Katrana. Dragons are cool -- even evil ones.
Tyler Caraway (@murmursofadruid) I'll be celebrating Fox's birthday this weekend, getting a chance to hang with the amazing @windkeeper4. Other than that, it's just some basic Skyrim or leveling the shaman.

Took me a moment to get the joke on the cake. I was thinking it was a personal joke, then I realized it was that joke.
Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday, Fox! As promised, I have rolled a shadow priest in commemoration.
Bonus Question: Jaina or Katrana for a girl. Probably Katrana, since it would be sort of like naming her after my aunt. I have no idea what name you could possibly give to a boy that wouldn't suck. Matthias, I guess? Or possibly Kalec.

Mr. Walsh, make it Kael Thas Walsh, and tell everyone it's a Gaelic spelling of "Kyle." Kid will get laid so frequently he'd be best living in a revolving door.
melissa Dec 12th 2011 10:34PM
We did name our son Kael :D It means tall and slender in Celtic

Lots of Skyrim there! You Skyrimmers may enjoy Prequel Adventure, an amusing reader-directed tale of a destitute alcoholic khajit with all the bad luck.

Work, PvP on my mage, playing the AH on my blacksmith to make money.
Bonus question: My daughter's name is Jaina. If she had been born a he instead, my wife was going to let the name be Darion. Though I softened her up a bit by constantly suggesting names like Tichondrius, Magtheridon, Nefarion, etc.

Sorry, WoW, as cool as you are, you were preceded by about a decade by the game I'm going to name my first daughter from: Final Fantasy VI. Nothing in WoW is as good a name as Celes.
(A boy will have the name I was to have, had my mother's friends not convinced her otherwise: Damian.)
shomechely Dec 9th 2011 10:33PM
I liked the name "Jaina" before Miss Proudmore had it. So that.
and also Happy Birthday!

I celebrated my birthday today by being boring and going shopping. I've been trying to put together a computer upgrade kit for I don't even know how long and I just know once I finally get it, all the fancy new cards and crap are gonna come out.
As for a kid, I'm just going to cop out and choose one of the normal sounding first names from one of the elven (girl) or human (boy) folk.

Happy birthday! Love the joke on the birthday cake. :D
My weekend is going to be taken up with getting the Christmas tree put up and decorated - if I can find room somewhere, I swear my cat's things are reproducing - and putting together a Christmas box to send to my family in Brazil. And deciding on transmog sets for my alts.
Names? Oh man. I take hours coming up with names for my WoW characters, let alone a hypothetical human baby. Mida would be among the top contenders for a baby girl. (Mida Silvertongue, the goblin faction leader that goblins deserve!) For a boy... I suppose Malorne. It sounds nice and the lore is interesting. It can also be shortened as a nickname to Mal - and then it becomes a Firefly reference. ;)
Thomas Higgins Dec 9th 2011 11:41PM
Arthas? That's a good name, kinda sounds like Arthur, doesn't it? Nothing could go wrong there, surely?
Thomas Higgins Dec 9th 2011 11:47PM
Oh yeah, wrip? Skyrim.

Just remember, the original commmited fratricide. Just might want to keep that in mind.
Ametrine Dec 9th 2011 11:57PM
Saw a guy who actually was on 4chan while in the hospital waiting-room and had the sheer solid-granite nards to get /b/ to name his kid.
Even showed the birth-certificate as proof (with surnames blacked out via MSpaint) - They named the kid Courage Wolf.

That cake is adorable. I want to hug the smiling little flowers.

1. Hanging out at work until 4 pm rolls around since Saturday is the easy day and I have nothing from this week to do.
2. Seeing the boyfriend who is housesitting at his mother's.
3. Hopefully leveling up my baby warlock in BGs.
4. At the very least, raiding on my hunter.
Mortenebra Dec 10th 2011 8:52AM
Happy early birthday, Fox :D
And this: "As for the name, how about Hellscream in the middle name slot? Considering babies, it seems appropriate." This made me laugh. A lot. It aggravated my coughing, unfortunately, but it's worth it. You think babies can "hellscream" when they're infants, but I've discovered that it's absolutely NOTHING compared to what they can do when they're toddlers and throwing a HUGE fit. Trust me on it.
Caylynn Dec 10th 2011 9:18AM
Happy Birthday Fox! :)
This weekend, as I am in the midst of exams for my graduate program (it's a course-based Masters), I will be studying! Fun, fun. With the occasional WoW study break when required.
My husband and I have no children, and we won't have any at this point. But if in some alternate universe we ever had children, they would be given "normal" names. So I guess I would find WoW names that were as "normal" as possible.
Adam Dec 10th 2011 10:35AM
Happy Birthday, fellow Sagittarius!!
I always knew there was a reason I enjoyed your sense of humor.
And for kid names,
Brann Lothar sounds cool enough to me!
:)

If I had a blonde child, I'd call it Lollegolasxxx
