Shifting Perspectives: The feral gear list to rule them all

This is it -- the final feral list of this expansion. By following this, you'll be well prepared to take on anything Deathwing throws your way.
Some notes:
- This list is focused on items suitable for PvE content. You may have some success in PvP with these items ... or not. To compare PvP items with PvE, a good rough estimate is to take five points off the item level for weapons and 20 points off the item level for armor. This accounts for the useless resilience.
- This list starts at item level 378 (normal Firelands or new 4.3 5-man instances). If you've just hit 85, check the lists for items that can be acquired via the AH or crafting, then take a look at my previous gear list.
- In general, one point of agility is worth three points of any of the secondary stats, and all secondary stats are roughly equal. Use that as a guide when comparing items.
- I've grouped all the items into rough tiers. These typically line up with ilevel, but not always (mostly due to gem slots). You will almost always want to gem the best +agility gem you can afford into each socket, ignoring socket bonuses unless they are 20 agility or greater.

- Kiril, Fury of Beasts (416) Heroic Madness of Deathwing
- Spire of Coagulated Globules (410) Heroic Yor'sahj
- Kiril, Fury of Beasts (403) Normal Madness of Deathwing

- Fandral's Flamescythe (378) Normal Staghelm

- The Hungerer (378) Normal Staghelm
- Arrow of Time (378) Murozond, End Time
A good weapon is the key to good feral DPS, so it's essential you get the best you can. Thankfully, unlike Firelands drops, a Dragon Soul weapon is relatively easy to come by, and an upgrade is available when you finish the instance. If you're just getting started, Ranseur's should go pretty cheap on the Auction House now, or there's a good weapon available from Well of Eternity.
The Vial of Shadows trinket is ridiculously awesome. It doesn't look like much, but the proc scales on a 1:1 basis with attack power and can crit. Yes, that means you can see procs of over 50k on this thing. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets nerfed for PvP reasons, though. Not to be outdone, Wrath of Unchaining is pretty nice as well, with a huge hunk of stacking agility. Your top two trinkets are going to be the best two versions of these you can come across.

The Cameo should be your first VP purchase almost certainly, as the alternative is likely still out of the reach of most. The relic slot is also an excellent candidate to spend VPs. Rings are a little easier; with heroic Beth'tilac now in reach of more guilds, many will have near-BiS rings already available.

Wow! This is really amazing! Thanks for the help here. FeralFTW.

Thankfully, unlike Firelands drops, a good weapon here is relatively easy to come by, and an upgrade is available when you finish the instance.
When you finish what instance? Did you check for cohesion :P
Alaron Dec 11th 2011 9:33PM
Clarified the text to say Dragon Soul. Thanks.
Ecthalar Dec 11th 2011 10:14PM
Still confused...what upgrade is available, and how do you obtain it?
Alaron Dec 11th 2011 10:54PM
I'm referring to the fact that you have the opportunity to get the Spire relatively early in DS, with an upgrade (Kiril) from a later boss. This is better than Firelands, where you either had to get lucky with a Ranseur drop or get all the way to Staghelm.
Ecthalar Dec 11th 2011 11:03PM
Ah, ok. I'm reading comprehension fail. I should have realized what you were saying, as I NEVER got the Flamescythe from FL, and got the Spire my first week in DS.
Brian! Dec 12th 2011 1:24AM
Took our team 19 domo kills to get the Flamescythe. By then we were doing heroic, so it has a *slightly* longer value.
I think it was a fail on Blizzard's part to finally put in something so cool for druids but to make the drop rate so small that most people just won't get to use it.
Now, they could save themselves if you were able to transmog your current weapon to the Flamescythe and also get the firecat visual effect from doing so. Sure, most druids would look like they are carrying around the same weapon - but at least it would be valuable again.
Leviathon Dec 11th 2011 10:36PM
Funnily enough the LFR Kiril is actually better than Heroic Flamescythe.
Morcego Dec 12th 2011 1:36AM
You notice that also, hum ?
There are several wrong things with his list. The existence of it not being the least problem.
The value of a piece of gear can only be determined by looking at the whole gear set. In any case, all secondary stats only have the same value is you are running Patchwerk-style sims. In most cases, specially when there is AoE involved, or when you need to stand in front of the boss (which should account to most of the raid fights these days), you want to cap hit and expertise first (the different for AoE is huge). Then, you want to keep your other secondary stats BALANCED, maybe we haste slightly ahead (specially if you are using the Matrix trinket). Try going all crit and you will see describing them as all the same just won't cut it.
Also, the BiS list for trinkets here doesn't work. BiS trinkets are Compass and Wrath. You don't want all 5 pieces of T13. You want 4 plus Underdweller's Spaulders.
When you do all your math, you will see your BiS neck is Choker of the Vanquished Lord (397), so thats 2 BiS pieces from H-FL, not DS or VP.
Also, be very careful with set bonuses. 4xT12 is very strong is you are hit/exp capped, specially if it is 4xH-T12. If that is the case, you might want to delay going T13 until you get 4xT13 or 2xH-T13. Forget LFR-T13. Speaking of LFR, there are 2 pieces you want regardless of Heroic FL gear: the Wrath trinket and the Kiril polearm. They will be upgrades regardless.
My strongest recommendation is: forget BiS lists for feral druids. Get Mew and/or Rawr and work what pieces are upgrades based on YOUR SET. No piece works alone.
Emophia Dec 12th 2011 9:25AM
I don't see how that is very funny.
Every LFR madness weapon is better than it's HC Firelands counterpart besides the HC rag bow.

"My strongest recommendation is: forget BiS lists for feral druids. Get Mew and/or Rawr and work what pieces are upgrades based on YOUR SET. No piece works alone."
On this, we agree. BiS lists don't work for ferals. BUT, this list is useful in the sense of knowing what are our best options and where to get them. Working with this list, rawr and general knowledge of your gear can give you an edge. Just don't take this list as the final word in the subject.
sabretooth Dec 12th 2011 4:13AM
Nowhere does Chase say that this is a BiS list - it's a list to show you what is available. Your claims that this list's existence as a problem is absurd.

Until the next one.

I’m not bagging on the list or Chase here, I think both are great. The list gives you a handy place to look up upgrades, and where they can be found. For that, thanks.
I do however think it’s kind of sad to see the way the stat changes of caty have made gear upgrades a pretty much no brainer. Look at this list as an example. It’s basically in order of iLevel because as Chase states, Agi > All. Sure it makes it a no brainer choice when to upgrade gear. But I had tons of fun balancing stats in the past. Was it harder than it is now? Yeah. Did that make it more satisfying? I think so. Sure you can go all "mew or rawr" on everybody and analyze gear still, but it's been made pretty much just easier to take the higher iLevel piece, and then go reforge something if you need to gain/lose hit.
