Yes, the crafting portion of SWTOR (at least in the weekend beta I played) was done by sending your companion(s) away to go do stuff. I only had one as I didn't have enough time to level to the point of gaining more, but it was a nice way to do things. You spend some cash and your companion goes off and does things while you run around a city questing/training/etc. It effectively lets you double-up on productivity.I believe that companions are not available in dungeons and they mostly manage themselves out in the field so it's not too bad. It added a nice flavor to things if nothing else.
