Raid Finder items reclassified for intended classes

I am very glad that Blizzard is changing these items' classifications and making the Raid Finder even more fair for players. So far, the Raid Finder has been an enormous success, and with some tweaks and changes down the road, it's here to stay in a big way. Hit the jump for the announcement and full list of updated classes that can roll need on many Dragon Soul items in the Raid Finder.
As a part of the on-going evaluation of Looking For Raid and the loot system, we have recently implemented a change to the Looking For Raid Need Plus system. Weapons, trinkets, rings, neck pieces, shields, offhand items, and the Robe of Glowing Stone are now class-restricted to their intended users. With the speed at which a Raid Finder group moves through a zone, we've found that it makes it challenging for players to evaluate loot decisions – by class restricting these items, we hope that the natural behavior will have a more positive set of results for everyone involved. This change will not apply to normal or heroic raid or dungeon loot rules.
Raid Finder and Need Plus are both very new systems, and we're working to iterate on these systems rapidly to ensure that everyone has the best possible experience as we learn more about how players are using the system. Please keep in mind that this system is not considered complete and we have further plans to improve upon it within Mists of Pandaria.
If you looted an item from Looking for Raid which replaced another and you need Game Master assistance to recover your old item, please place a petition with the new item name, that you can no longer use it - and the old item name you need restored. For more information on the affected items, please visit the Customer Support forums here- http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3729953854#1
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Woot!!!
Now let the cheers and angry frustration begin on LFR for those who were disappointed in losing an unfair roll and the others who will have to accept the fact that they can't be greedy no longer, respectively.
Mamaryno Dec 13th 2011 8:31PM
Greedy? For rolling on an agility weapon for my enh shaman? Something Ive been able to do since I chose the class and spec? Now, I get to roll on one weapon (if it drops) and roll against--big surprise--rouges. Who, by the way, get to roll againtst, I believe, 4.
Yep, looks like Im greedy. Since I wont likely get a chance to see DS on normal and def not heroic, I hope I see an upgrade before the next xpac.
Revynn Dec 13th 2011 8:56PM
Relax, dude. He was referring to people being greedy and rolling Need on things that are clearly not meant for them (ie. Ret Paladins rolling on the Agility polearm and getting a Role Bonus because it's classified as a "DPS weapon").
Evelinda Dec 13th 2011 8:58PM
@marmaryno
So you're complaining about having to roll against rogues for your axe, in spite of the fact that they've removed the ability to use that axe from hunters, death knights, warriors and paladins, who may well have been rolling against you previously, even though it wasn't as good a weapon for them. You do realise that this is a massive improvement for you right?
Eyhk Dec 13th 2011 10:20PM
What a big FU to that stupid huntard that won the tanking sword and the dktard that won the agi axe last night. Thanks blizz. I just wish I were there to see them log on and find they can no longer equip the weapon they ninja'ed last night.
Skarn Dec 13th 2011 10:22PM
Don't all rogues have Fear and Vengeance by now anyway? ;)
Marcblack Dec 13th 2011 10:53PM
"mages rolling on spirit cloth or warriors rolling on one-handed agility axes."
This leads me to the question: is it so hard to see those things coming? I mean, in a "community" full of jerks and bad behavior do blizzard really believed people would act honestly, specially when getting loot is 90% of the fun for the most of the players? Why didn't they plan loot rules the way it should really be (class and spec based, for god sake) before release the feature.
Looks like a complete misunderstanding of its own playerbase.
Tyramon Dec 14th 2011 12:11AM
@Eyhk: at least you didn't get the DPS warrior rolling on Vishanka, Jaws of the Earth " 'cause it's really nice", winning it, then selling it right in front of me and the other hunter in the raid to a warlock who thought it was "a really cool weapon".
Elmo Dec 14th 2011 9:49AM
@Mamaryno That's a whole different issue, I hope you were not rolling on that dagger to begin with it's worthless, a 333 ilvl item would probably be better.
Schadenfreude Dec 14th 2011 1:00PM
I'm really glad they made this change, but I gotta agree with Marc: How did they not foresee the mass stealing of gear by inappropriate classes/specs when they rolled this out? It's not just maliciousness or greed, but also ignorance: in my own guild, a warlock took a +spi chest and insisted it was better than his tier since it had more +int with all the red slots.
Leland Ford Jan 6th 2012 1:48AM
You really gotta forgive Mama on this one, she is an Enhancement Shammy and taken too many blows to the head therefore not smart enough to stand back and cast like normal Shamans
thedoctor2031 Dec 13th 2011 7:06PM
Does this change stop an Elemental Shaman or a Balance Druid from rolling on agility items?
Kaiser Dec 13th 2011 7:13PM
Class restricted, not restricted by spec.
Caylynn Dec 13th 2011 7:41PM
Unfortunately not. That will have to wait until MoP.
But this is better than what was in place before, with hunters rolling on strength trinkets, DKs rolling on agility trinkets, and mages & 'locks rolling on items with spirit.
alapin Dec 13th 2011 10:46PM
@ Caylnn: In all honesty, those rolling on the things they shouldn't have were just shooting themselves in the foot to begin with. While an Agi based polearm (whales harpoon from wrath era) may have been a good heroic dungeon drop for death knight tanks in the past, now it won't do them a lick of good to grab one over a strength based weapon.
Similarly if people are rolling need on spirit gear when they have no ability to properly utialize the drop, by all means they deserve to loose the item they destroyed/sold off when they replaced it. Spirit has had no value for locks or mages since classic. Spirit only holds value for healer builds and elemental shaman/balance druid speced players.
While yes, people are going to roll need on something if they want it regardless of what the person who actually needs the item wishes, those who make poor gearing choices will end up getting it in the end when they are kicked from multiple groups and not brought along for any real server based raiding because they are wearing healing, tanking, and dps gear as a ret pali, or because their attack power is suffering majorly due to a hunter using strength based weapons/trinkets.
Nick Dec 14th 2011 3:23AM
And shadow priests!
sarah Dec 14th 2011 3:36AM
Well, to be honest, if your elemental shaman rolls on a agi weapon, who's to say that he's not building gear to swap to an enhancement set? And why should he be penalised if he is? Until there's Need+ (mainspec) and Need+ (offspec) AND there's a way to make sure that it's an upgrade for the mainspec person and they're not needing it to DE or vendor trash, it's perfectly reasonable for the elemental shaman to roll on gear that they may wish to use.
I've been levelling a Paladin as Holy, switched to Ret in Cata because it's just too slow. You saying you don't want more healers in the game? Because I'm not healing heroics until I'm decently geared.
Chance Dec 14th 2011 4:23AM
@alapin
I do agree with you, but id just like to point out that spirit had a purpose for locks and mages up until cata. It converted to crit with molten armor for mages and it converted to spell power for locks for a 15 second buff everytime they lifetapped (with no internal cooldown). Completely pointless seeing as both spirit conversions have been removed but I do understand why people who haven't played since wrath may still go for spirit on these classes, thinking that spirit is just a lower scaled secondary stat. Took me and my guildies over an hour to explain to a friend who recently returned why purchasing chelley's staff for his lock was a waste of gold.
Lipstick Dec 14th 2011 4:33AM
Personally, and I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I don't think it should. I am friends with a bear/boomy who has to struggle constantly to keep both specs up to date for him the be as flexible for our guild/group as possible.
LFR loot when he can and will use both items, SHOULD in my eyes be able to be rolled on by both. You can argue MS vs OS in a guild group, but in a LFR situation when he cues as boomy to ease DPS needs (as I have seen DPS call to arms for LFR recently) when his MS is tanking and he could use an agility staff... or what have you, I think he should be allowed to roll on it.
Kithus Dec 14th 2011 8:37AM
Now they need to fix winning the same item and loot trading/selling. I was in an LFR group yesterday with several members of Premonition who were rolling on items for eachother (elemental shaman wins ago trinket and trades to rogue, etc). I said I thought top guilds got the message about gaming the LFR loot system. Guy says nope we're still doing it. Report me and I'll just get a 3 day ban. Classy.
