Raid Finder items reclassified for intended classes

I am very glad that Blizzard is changing these items' classifications and making the Raid Finder even more fair for players. So far, the Raid Finder has been an enormous success, and with some tweaks and changes down the road, it's here to stay in a big way. Hit the jump for the announcement and full list of updated classes that can roll need on many Dragon Soul items in the Raid Finder.
Nethaera explains Raid Finder loot changes
As a part of the on-going evaluation of Looking For Raid and the loot system, we have recently implemented a change to the Looking For Raid Need Plus system. Weapons, trinkets, rings, neck pieces, shields, offhand items, and the Robe of Glowing Stone are now class-restricted to their intended users. With the speed at which a Raid Finder group moves through a zone, we've found that it makes it challenging for players to evaluate loot decisions – by class restricting these items, we hope that the natural behavior will have a more positive set of results for everyone involved. This change will not apply to normal or heroic raid or dungeon loot rules.
Raid Finder and Need Plus are both very new systems, and we're working to iterate on these systems rapidly to ensure that everyone has the best possible experience as we learn more about how players are using the system. Please keep in mind that this system is not considered complete and we have further plans to improve upon it within Mists of Pandaria.
If you looted an item from Looking for Raid which replaced another and you need Game Master assistance to recover your old item, please place a petition with the new item name, that you can no longer use it - and the old item name you need restored. For more information on the affected items, please visit the Customer Support forums here- http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3729953854#1

Still no fix for people winning two rolls for an identical drop? Deathwing dropped two of the caster daggers in my run, which were both won by a mage, who promptly left the raid. I don't know if he was being an asshole and planned to use the second one as vendor trash or if he didn't even realize that he won both rolls, but I sure as shit was kind of pissed off.

Why to wait awhile so they fix those things to save on frustration. It's a new system, and one with m-a-n-y problems.
Items are still class based, so that means basically the same LFD problem of a tank rolling on DPS gear still exists.
It's the need on OS gear that remains the problem. Remove that need, and loot issues are done (and runs go m-u-c-h faster too).

And never mind, the 2hander from Deatheing is a sword, so shaman couldn't use that either. So, the only items shaman have lost access to were the 1.8 and 1.4 speed daggers.
*shrug* Maybe you have a point there. Using them would be against conventional wisdom, but whatever, I suppose.

I hope they fix the other loot issues associated with the LFR, Last night after we downed DW 2 of the 2HD swords dropped. A ret paladin rolled need on both and won each roll for the exact same number, 186. I'm not sure if there is a way to manipulate the roll system. I dont know how it can be hacked.

Kiril (polearm) - Druid, Hunter When is the Hunter stat stick supposed to be done away with? Is that in MOP? It's all starting to run together :(
Spikedriver Dec 14th 2011 2:12PM
So you want a weapon ONLY for feral druids? is that what your telling us? Would you like then to go back so you can lose the roll to another Warrior or DK? My main is a hunter and I had lost 2 rolls on the polearm to DKs who thought it was a cool effect that it raised their size. Im sorry for you that blizz has made a weapon that is so far and away the BiS for hunters too (the LFR polearm is better than the normal mode staff btw). But since hunters have been forced into only having a polearm or staff your just gonna have to suck it up on this one.

This isn't about cookie cutter builds, this is about getting gear that suits your sub-class.
There's primary and secondary stats that a sub-class needs, and usually those are on gear for the sub-class.
Experimenting can be done by reforging if necessary; or trying to find a BoE item with the stats (e.g., AGI to cap some extra crit when maxed on about every other stat).

Well, I for one like this change.
As a mage, if I see spirit cloth that is 20 (or more) ilevels above what I have equipped, I WANT to roll need on it, and I think that I should be able to as its better than what I have.
Yes, the healers in the group should get preference over me, but I should get preference over a paladin.
That is how it works now right?
piekid Dec 14th 2011 7:19PM
No, that's not how it will work, now.
The raid finder version of that robe will now only be EQUIPABLE by Priests. Even if a Priest traded it to your Mage, it's nothing more than a crystal or vendor trash for you, now.
Scuac Dec 14th 2011 9:04AM
"Chest
Robe of Glowing Stone - Priest"
I don't understand this. This is a chest cloth piece with spirit, meaning that healers get a roll bonus on it, and per Blizzard earlier announcements, so do shadow priests (i.e. ANY priest always get a roll bonus on it). SO if a mage or lock rolls need on it, it will only win it if no priest rolled need on it. WHY then cannot they use it if it is a big upgrade for them (just reforge spirit, that is why reforging exists)?
HDPriest Dec 14th 2011 9:13AM
Actually, that robe was tagged as getting the roll bonus for Heals or DPS since it was good for any spec of Priest...but that means that Mages/Locks got the bonus too since they A) wear cloth and B) queued as DPS. The system has never been spec-specific, just role-specific (which I hope they do eventually work on). This just means that any spec Priest can now roll on it effectively, and other cloth wearers can't. I kind of wish that if no Priest rolled for it that someone like yourself had the option to if it were a big upgrade, but this is the Only piece of Spirit Cloth in DS, so it's not that bad to have it only available to the class it was meant for.
Scuac Dec 14th 2011 9:31AM
I didn't know Mages were getting the bonus on that chest piece. I was under the impression (maybe wrong on my part) that only shadow priests were getting the bonus as dps. This is the quote from Bashiok explaining the roll bonus system:
If you're in a raid as one of the below roles here is what you'll receive a roll bonus on:
Tank:
Agility Leather (for druids)
Strength plate with tank stats on it
Trinkets with tank stats
Trinkets with Agility (for druids)
"Tank stats" = Dodge, Parry, or Mastery
Healer:
Any appropriate caster gear without Hit
Trinkets that trigger on heals or beneficial spells
DPS:
Mostly everything that doesn’t have a tank stat on it
Spirit gear (for elemental shaman, shadow priest, and moonkin)
Trinkets that trigger on damaging spells/melee hits
Reading that it gives the impression that only spriests get the roll bonus as DPS, if that is not the case big fail on Blizzard explaining things.
HDPriest Dec 14th 2011 9:40AM
It does give that impression, but it didn't work out that way. Since one DPS spec (SPriests) got the bonus, so did every other cloth DPS. The same way an Enh Shaman got the bonus for Spirit gear because it was good for Ele. They said when it was on PTR that they wished they system was "smart" enough to filter for specs and classes, but that atm it could only do role (heal/tank/dps). This class restriction is just to help that a bit so that Warriors can't get Agi polearms and Mages can't get Spirit gear. Making the system smarter would've been better, but this is an improvement and, well, baby steps lol.

For what it's worth, the agi axe from Madness maths out to be BiS for SMF warriors. Blizz needs to fix Souldrinker for dps or add another weapon.
Tbah Dec 14th 2011 10:08AM
Or, clearly, the axe isn't quite that BiS.
Spikedriver Dec 14th 2011 2:26PM
I thank Blizz for fixing this problem. Running my hunter main and watching 2 of the polearms go to DKs made me very sad. Now they just have to fix how the drops go. Ran the second half of the LFR last night before bed to see if I could get another shot at the polearm. Saw 6 tokens drop from the first 2 bosses, every single token was DK Rogue Mage Druid. Really? Now I can understand that it should drop a little (very little) more often, but all 6? Same way ive seen the same weapon drop from Deathwing more than once in the same raid. They need to find a way to let a more of a selection of things drop. Its almost feels like punishment to keep seeing the same things drop that cant be used by a majority of the raid. Ran the first half of LFR this morning, the group had 5 hunter 7 druids, no priests and no locks and 2 Pallys. Yet we saw the Pally Priest Lock token drop twice from the same boss.
Yeah, I (like most others) love to get shiny new epic loot. But I would be happier to see it balance to the make-up of the raid. Its giving me flash backs of 25 man ICC where we (as a guild raid team) saw so many pally priest lock tokens that our pally tank had his 4 set before the warrior tank got his first token.
ljhansen2 Dec 14th 2011 3:01PM
I'm glad they're making the changes so items get used by the class best suited. But with my luck I've run LFR every week so far and haven't won anything. I don't even win rolls when I'm the only person in a group/raid and rolling on it either
loop_not_defined Dec 14th 2011 4:22PM
And now it's not. I'm confused.
Prouty.dan Dec 15th 2011 10:25AM
My only concern is with the need+ in the lfr. Last night I q'd as dps and tank and it still gave me a bonus on my offset piece. (Working as intended?)
Dawts Dec 15th 2011 12:00PM
Making the items themselves class specific was a dumb choice.
