Breakfast Topic: What secondary character would you promote to a leading role?

Of course, Blizzard has a whole new expansion coming soon, so we may just see more from these leaders that could change our minds -- or at least let us accept their story arcs. That said, what if Blizzard took an opposite tack? What if it just either killed off the leaders or swept them to the side and let other characters step up to drive the narrative going forward?
If I were going to promote some new characters, I'd start with Joanna Blueheart. This lady is about as close as we've gotten to a classic Alliance leader since the start of WoW, really. She doesn't sugarcoat the Horde's crimes. They are dastardly, and they have caused us loss, and that loss should never be marginalized or discounted. But at the same time, we are Alliance. That means we are honorable, and just, and noble. We don't fight wars for vengeance; we fight them to bring justice and peace and to defend our homes. We are gracious in victory, and we honor our fallen. That type of balance of wrath and nobility is something that the Alliance could really use right now.
I also think I'd do something with Grand Admiral Jes-Tereth. Technically, she's a pretty blank slate, so that might be cheating, but I have had a crush on her for years, I won't lie. The Alliance's naval power has sort of sat on the back burner for years, but it used to be a point of pride, and with Kul Tiras possibly entering back on the scene, it could be showcased all over again. A tough, no- nonsense seadog with the mind of a tactical genius, Jes-Tereth could organize assaults against the Forsaken, the Horde on Pandaria, and against all other Alliance enemies with a brutal precision, as both sea and airships bomb Horde military targets to fine dust. Also, Lieutenant General Andorov is a member of the 7th Legion now, and they love each other and have beautiful children.
Of course, there are many other players that could see promotion if given the chance, I'm sure. If you could promote one or two small players to a higher position in WoW lore, who would they be and what would they do?

Freakin' Vol'jin!

Vol'jin for Warchief!
Let's make it happen people
Signs at every protest.
Philster043 Dec 14th 2011 7:38PM
I want Vol'jin as Warchief, but I wouldn't classify him as a "secondary character."
Revnah Dec 14th 2011 8:09AM
I disagree. Jaina is an awesome powerful mage and a leader with intelligence and insight - and far better judgment than either Garrosh or Varian. So I'd make her leader of the humans and the Alliance as a whole!
About the Horde, I want Thrall back... *sniff*
Fletcher Dec 14th 2011 8:18AM
I want Thrall back too.
So I can kill him.
I used to kinda like him, until Cataclysm. Sure, he was ineffectual, but he meant well.
In Cataclysm, he still means well, but he's just so. Damned. Stupid. I hate him and his stupid face and his stupid waddle and his stupid psychological issues. I hate that I had to help him realize the importance of a proper work/life balance on all my 85 toons in order to get a cloak. I hate the way he's been pumped up over the course of the expansion from a powerful shaman to THE Powerful Shaman, El Jesus Verde, Orc-Father, World-Saviour, for whom players exist merely to carry his luggage.
I used to like him, when he was Warchief *not* because of his power, merely because he was an orc with an ounce of common sense, who could see that "RAR! ME SMASH!" was not a good political strategy. But now? Screw him. Vol'jin for Warchief. I'm sick of Thrall, I'm sick of Garrosh, I'm sick of ORCS.
Revnah Dec 14th 2011 8:29AM
Yeah, I should probably have written: I want the *old* Thrall back, because he too was a leader with insight who would not have let his personal issues taint his judgment.
Vol'jin for warchief? Oh yes, please!
Chetti Dec 14th 2011 9:34AM
Yes, Vol'jin for warchief! Very much so.

So when does Initiate Goldmine take over the Earthen Ring? That's what I want to see.
Amaxe Dec 14th 2011 12:59PM
"I want Thrall back too. So I can kill him."
Same. I got my black war bear from killing Thrall, but my achievement says "Garrosh." I want my feat of strength!
Drahken Dec 14th 2011 3:24PM
My vote still goes to Abasek Campfire for warchief.
Fletcher Dec 14th 2011 8:11AM
Any Draenei. Any Gnome. Any Dwarf. Any Worgen.
And on the Horde side:
Any Blood Elf (I'd really like to see them try to re-establish the monarchy; the Sunstrider dynasty is extinguished, the throne is up for grabs!). Any Tauren (I like Aponi Brightmane). I'd like to see Vol'jin do more, Vol'jin is awesome. And I'd like to see Mida Silvertongue (or possibly Sassy Hardwrench) become Trade Princess ... Gallywix's Pleasure Palace in Azshara is crying out to be a raid or a five-man.
Batleth Dec 14th 2011 9:03AM
Definitely somone in the Blood Elf camp. Since the end of TBC, I've struggled with why they're even in the Horde.
IMO, this would the perfect opportunity to have someone emerge from the past **COUGH**ALLERIA**COUGH** and galvanize them into a true kingdom again.
clundgren Dec 14th 2011 10:17AM
Lady Liadrin! I love Alleria, but she's too Alliance to lead the Blood Elves. They should bring her and Turalyon back to the Alliance, though.
Also, yes please to Trade Prince Mida. Or anyone. The Goblins deserve an in-game boss, at least.
Sedna Dec 14th 2011 10:17AM
Agreed, so agreed with all of these. In particular I would be so delighted to see more with Aponi Brightmane. And sassy Goblin trade princesses! A thousand times yes.
I would also kill-kill!- to see Nathanos Marris show up and start posing a real threat to Sylvanas.
Sedna Dec 14th 2011 10:22AM
Um. And by "showing up", I mean, of course, that Nathanos is in the War Quarter of Undercity, cheerfully insulting us all. Imbeciles.
viciouspen Dec 14th 2011 8:11AM
You make a good point with Joanna, and partially steal my thunder as I'd have liked to of said her :P
I remember running into her when I leveled my main pally. I was all "ma'am yes ma'am" and enjoyed charging out onto the battlefield for her to deliver honorable justice.
For me I'm going to pick a relatively unknown one.
Pained I think her name is, she stands near Jania in Theramore. Basically nothing is known of this NPC and she's always intrigued me.
Firiun Dec 14th 2011 10:33PM
/facepalm
Darky Dec 14th 2011 8:13AM
Lilliana ves- err I mean Lillian Voss :D.

Darky Dec 14th 2011 8:14AM
Liliana*
Darky Dec 14th 2011 8:15AM
Oh and clearly (to me at least) I mean her taking over of the forsaken.
