I am not sure if Informant does quite what he is looking for. I don't have access to my game to double check what it does but I don't remember it ever saying whick mobs it came off of. Quoting from the description of Auctioneer from Curse:

"Informant displays additional information about items in their tooltips: buy price; sell price; item level; what quests, classes or professions use the item; the value of the item produced by a recipe; etc. Informant can also tell you what vendors sell a given item."

So while it tells you what it can be used for and which vendors (if any) sell that item, it doesn't mention anything origin of loot.
