The Queue: Early access
Of course the talk of the town this week is Star Wars, and the early access program has gotten a lot of buzz. It's great if you're in already, but is likely the bane of your existence if you're not in.
I hope Blizzard never does anything like that, or if it does, it never does it with WoW. Not because I think the early access program BioWare is doing is a bad decision from a technical standpoint -- it's not, it's great -- but it's a terrible decision from a QQ standpoint. The WoW community's collective rage would burst open unlike no event ever before if some sort of staggered access to an expansion or other game was implemented.
I pray to Elune that never happens.
CDMoller asked:
Do world BoE Epics and Patterns drop in LFR as they would in N or H mode? If so how does the rolling for those work?
Dragon Soul patterns do not drop in the Raid Finder, only in normal and heroic. I'm not sure if world BoE epics drop; I'd assume not, though.
Nyold asked:
Didn't someone (not Blizz, but someone from WowInsider) say that the drops from Hour of Twilight 5 mans are going to look like a recolored version of T13? For example, the cloth drops will look like the mage tier but recolored. Or am I misremembering this?
No. What we did say and what Blizzard has said is that the gear you get from the dungeons has a unified look in its armor type. So all the cloth gear forms a nice-looking armor set, with some variations here and there amongst the individual pieces.
It's the Raid-Finder-level set pieces gear that are recolors of the tier 13 pieces.
Caylynn asked:
So, I write my last final exam for the semester this afternoon (yes, I'm taking a study break right now). How should I celebrate in WoW afterwards? (If it matters, I'm working on a Masters in Applied Human Nutrition)
For me, I'd spend an hour or two questing in a Cataclysm zone and grabbing an easy achievement. Or I'd hop into some randoms with my priest and heal for fun (well, fun most of the time).

@loop I guess they got caught up in the Silver Hand discussion :)
Blood Guard is a good belf paladin title, if you care to snag it from the PvP system.

Race/class title for my Gnome rogue: Fweet the Pocket Knife

Archmage for my Mage, of course. I'd never sport another title if I had that one :(
or they could bring the Magic Seeker back. That one is so damn awesome, I'm sad I wasn't around then :(((

"Race/class title for my Gnome rogue: Fweet the Pocket Knife"
Why not "Mack, the Knife"?

Pffft, the Silver Hand was disbanded by Arthas. He was the last Paladin to really know what the hell they were doing, as far as I'm concerned.
What?
He was the Lich King?
Stop spreading your filthy dog lies! You liar.

The northern Silver Hand got disbanded/merged, but that consisted of Tirion, his horse and a couple of rats that lived in his crawl-space. The Stormwind and Ironforge chapters are still around.

Actually... That's something I'm gonna start doing in my maths class

I am sure the narrator's natural voice is nice. Sadly, her vocal fry is like nails on a chalkboard.

Okay. First off, whinge is not a different spelling for "whine." They are in fact different words with distinct meanings. Whinging is NOT the same as whining, and they are not pronounced the same.
Second, and I'm sorry to point this out, but typically it is the Americanized spelling (i.e. draft instead of draught) that is, if not incorrect, certainly a derivation of the original, still correct spelling. If anything, I wince when I see words Americanized. And I'm Canadian, not British.
American spellings often go back to Daniel Webster's incomplete and very inconsistent efforts to regularize English. While he succeeded in making words like "color" the norm in the U.S., instead of the standard "colour" used by the rest of the English speaking world, it does not make his spellings correct out side of American borders.
There is something inherently ironic about whinging when you see words spelled in their conventional manner.

Sigh. Reply fail.

Yay for Vi Hart!!! Check out her other videos too, she is doing some really fun and creative stuff with math. My favorite doodle one is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heKK95DAKms
(Or rather... check it out from her home page, the youtube version has horrible sound quality: http://vihart.com/doodling/)

The early access thing is a brilliant idea; its about time that an mmo launched without dying every 5 seconds.
No one should qq imo, the game hasnt come out yet, although reading the wow forums i can see how self entitled kids could winge about not getting something surplus.
johnthediver Dec 15th 2011 11:35AM
Winge - my all time favorite British English word. But back on topic. Yes the early access stagger start is awesome. It allows servers to slowly ramp up, and allows them to only add a new server when things are getting tight. Instead of opening a slew of servers on day one, and 3 months down the line consolidating the low pop servers.
Moonzcar Dec 15th 2011 11:37AM
Have you seen the TOR forum? Its full of people that complain about it.
Caz Dec 15th 2011 11:37AM
I never thought in all of my life that I would be 'that guy' and do this - but I've seen this mis-spelling so many times in the WoW communuty that I simply cannot resist any longer.
Winge and Wign and Wigne are not words.
The correct spelling is -whine-. Kids whine, they do not wigne, or winge.
And now that I am done whining about spelling, I will move on. Thank you.

Caz Dec 15th 2011 11:40AM
Oh great - it's British. Fine, downvote me for being a spell-checker. It still annoys me to see that word and I will cringe every time I see it.
serez Dec 15th 2011 11:43AM
@caz: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/winge its a real word. I'm not saying whine, im saying winge.
@ john the diver: my point exactly. It means that by the time the game launches for real there will be a good infastructure. I wouldnt be surprised if ea still manage to bork it though.
@moonzcar: people will always complain.
Knob Dec 15th 2011 11:44AM
Don't you love it when someone vehemently attempts to correct someone else when they are wrong themselves? Oh, the glorious internet, you never cease to make me smile.
mariannecmitchell Dec 15th 2011 11:49AM
In fact whinge is a word: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/whinge
A very fine English word which although derevated from the same old english word as whine is spelt and pronouced differently (whinge rhymes with hinge).
So please take your whingeing out in a more appropriate and hopefully accurate way!
