Breakfast Topic: Has the time come for Outland story updates?

The two that come immediately to mind are the Netherwing Dragonflight and the Ashtongue Deathsworn. What's up with the Netherwing since Deathwing's demise? Do they even know about it or what's happened with the Aspects? And what's going on with Akama now? I'd argue that he, more than Kael or Vashj or Illidan, was the greatest and most compelling character of WoW's first expansion, and he had one hell of a unique model. The brains behind the Ashtongue's high-stakes Batman Gambit (warning: TV Tropes link) has got to be up to something these days, and if Blizzard ever revamps Outland questing, I hope it gives players a peek.
Then again, that's assuming that yanking Illidan back from the dead is even a good idea to begin with (is it?) or that Outland stories can be made relevant to their modern counterparts. Thoughts, readers?

Yes, please.

I enjoyed BC would love to see the storylines picked up if it's in the form of new content.
But the last thing I want is for Blizzard to spend any more development time on revamping old content.

Personally, I'd rather keep Outlands with all its warts, just make a few new quests at the Dark Portal that talk about how it's now a time portal, and the bronze flight needs you to go into the past or all is lost.
I want new content for my max level characters. Another thought, I think it'd be cool if they kept old Outlands (with occasional streamlined quest hubs) for levelling content, and used the maps as the basis for a new expansion with the updated storylines you discuss.

I would imagine they could make a phased quest chain for level 55-58 toons to go thru. If it's your first time through, you should go through it like it is your first time though. But a little more story/flavor in blasted lands or wherever, would be nice.

The whole "let's take the entire world, and make it one, long linear quest!" they did to the old world makes me want Outland to never change.
They admitted they made the old world too linear, and they would probably not make that mistake again, but I don't want to look up a nice weapon in an Outland quest, then find out I have to do the entire zone next to it, then 20 more quests in that zone to unlock the quest you get it from.

My thoughts exactly.

It has come, gone, and I think it came back once, but left again.

I've been leveling a Warlock through Outland at the moment, and i've got to say it's not as bad as it's made out to be.
The only bad thing i've noticed is that for some unbeknownst reason, average dungeon queues times jumped from 5-10 minutes to over 2 hours.

In a way, Illidan has returned in 4.3.
Cyno01 Dec 16th 2011 11:05AM
Is it really a return if it's back in time before (and durring) his corruption? Also, does anyone else think the new illidan model looks exactly like a purple Hugo Weaving?
chaosdefined Dec 16th 2011 8:28AM
I honestly can't see them revamping Outland. It'd require too much effort and resources for a 'dead' expansion that people are going to bypass within days of levelling.
If they revamped it in order for say, 90-95 then people would just complain Blizz was out of ideas and recycling everything.
durandal Dec 16th 2011 8:28AM
I don't think reviving Outland would be good idea. Draenor is a broken planet beyond repair. If Blizz ever decides to revamp Outland, it's only because their artists are too lazy to come up with new and fresh ideas and continents. Players are already getting increasingly sceptical about recycled content, and with the growing numbers of serious competitors with amazing gaphics and scenarios, it would be a dangerous move.
If we see Illidan again, then possibly in another CoT scenario, perhaps involving the retrieval of Guldan's scull and the slaying of Tichondrius.
Nadia Dec 16th 2011 8:44AM
There's a quest chain in Felwood that does that.
lilywillylover Dec 16th 2011 8:29AM
I think so. Hellfire Peninsula requires a much needed overhaul.

TV Tropes link....
Must...not....click....

well he did warn us! damn you TV Tropes!
:)

4 hours later, I'm still on TVtropes, and better yet, educating myself on male circumcision on a completely unrelated site.
Well, in all fairness, they did warn us.
Nagaina Dec 16th 2011 8:32AM
Yes. Yes. *A thousand times yes.* Rehab in preparation for the coming of the Dark Titan -- not one of his avatars but the being himself -- and do it in graduated quests with phasing over a period of time for a slow burn of oncoming dread, as the heroes of Azeroth realize that all their battles and all their victories thus far have been as miniscule lights in the shadow of the greatest evil the universe has ever known.
::insane cackle::
....And while they're at it, they can update the draenei and blood elf starting zones because, seriously, Blizz, that radiation cleanup should be done by now and it's kind of pointless to emo over something whose repair was announced in the freaking opening narration.
techvoodooguy Dec 16th 2011 8:51AM
Aye! I've powered Silvermoon's defenses up enough times that even a Light-Eating Z'gru would have a hard time draining them fully!
