Breakfast Topic: Have transmogrification limits stymied your character's look?

For example, I'd love to wear a leather eyepatch on my death knight, but since he's a plate wearer? No go. I would pretty much wear an Ashkandi forever and ever if I could, but if I pick up a two-handed axe in a raid or instance? Can't transmog it. My hunter has it even worse. I roleplay her as more of a backwoods, live-off-the-land type turned sniper, so she'd be more likely to dress in brown or black leathers instead of big, flashy suits of mail armor. Alas, under the current rules of transmogrification, I'm stuck with tier 11 while her Defias Leathers stay languishing in the bank. Finally, I had every intention of dressing up both my blood elf paladin and my gnomish warrior in level 60 PvP gear, but you probably heard that only those characters with the old high-level titles get to transmogrify that stuff for now.
So what about you? Are some of the transmogrification rules keeping you from putting together the look of your dreams?

You don't get swords anymore? For all the Enh shaman out there let me just say, 'I beg to differ.'
Jack Mynock Dec 18th 2011 10:33AM
My main is Enh and it irritates me that there are agi swords in the game at all. I'm still a little irked that we were the only spec I know of that didn't get access to a 365 crafted weapon from molten front just so one spec could have a sword (perfectly itemized for enh too, just to rub it in I guess). Get rid of agi swords or let enh equip them already.

@Literal
Totally agree with you here. My rogue is running around with the 85 Tankard O'Terror, and for the life of can't find a transmog mace I like. I prefer DWing daggers!
But as a positive I did find a decent gear look, so it's not all bad.
Literaltruth Dec 18th 2011 10:49AM
Really? You beg to differ? In all raids since Cata's release - up to and including Dragon Soul - there has been exactly one Agi Sword, the Fang of Twilight from Valiona. There have been 4 axes, one mace and a fist weapon. In terms of dungeon epics, there's been one axe, one mace and three fists. No swords at all.
The crafted sword brings the total up to 2epics in the whole expac. Neither of these were fast enough to be considered useful as an offhand. In fact, every single one-handed agi weapon in Cata with a speed faster than 2.0 was a dagger.

The weapon types have been the biggest sticking points for me, both on my Rogue main and my main Pally alt.
The rogue I have in what I can only describe as a black biker leather getup, and I really wanted her to use simple weapons. For a week or so there I had the fist weapon out of the twilights and instantly transmogged it into Fist of the Deity, and it was awesome. Then I got the axe off of Deathwing and had to sadly put the fist back in the bank. I don't want to wield axes and daggers, I want my combat rogue going dual fist weapons and punching enemies to death. I could do that in PvP, but not PvE?
And my Paladin. When I heard transmog was coming, I farmed up the complete DK look-a-like armor and the Slayer of the Lifeless from Naxx to be a unique looking paladin (instead of going for Judgement like everybody else). And what happens? The twilight tanking weapon is... a mace. Like the rogue's Fist of the Deity, Slayer of the Lifeless went back into the bank, to never be used again.
I have a shammy I'm raising as well that I really wanted to get the two big molten claw fists out of Mt. Hyjal for, but again there aren't two good fist weapons for them to use, so what would be the point?
Long as they're weapons we can equip, and they're the same handedness (1h vs 2h), who cares what type it is? There is no advantage in PvP to knowing that your opponent has two axes compared to two swords, and I'm pretty sure Hagara doesn't care in PvE what kind of weapons you're sporting.
Long as its in the same ballpark (no turning offhand orbs into shields or the like), who cares what our weapons look like compared to what they actually are?
Jack Mynock Dec 18th 2011 12:00PM
Let's see... Krol Decapitator, Fang of Twilight, Pyrium Spellward, Horseman's Sinister Saber, Spine of a Thousand Cuts. That's 5 by my count. You've had a sword option at almost every point in this expansion except at the 378 ilvl and now at 410 bc the sword from DS isn't a boss drop. How many more weapons should be made for one hand of one spec? Oh, I forgot, you want fast agility swords too, as if it isn't bad enough that daggers get de'd most of the time.

I'm wondering if Blizzard would restrict Swords, Maces, Axes and Fists to Combat Rogues if they were to lift the weapon type xmog restriction.
Daggers for Assassination and Subtlety is fairly iconic.
paul.morales91 Dec 18th 2011 6:46PM
You guys seem to have lost track of the real issue here. Its not about the gear distribution, rather its about the restrictions on transmogrification. Imo, there should be four groups that can be intertransmogable (up rate for inventing a new word :D).
Group one: one-handed maces, one-handed axes, and one-handed swords.
Group two: two-handed maces, two-handed axes, and two-handed swords.
Group three: Fist weapons and daggers.
Group four: Staffs and polearms.

@Jack_Mynock
How exactly do weapons that only drop from lockboxes, which are only attainable by rogues, affect Enh shamans in any way, shape or form? Also - you're counting a terribly itemised sword that only dropped for about a week and a half from a holiday boss bag that we could get once a day and 90% of the time dropped nothing at all? That's really stretching...
However, as other have said - with your "Raaawwwr Blizzard hates shamans!!!!" rage, you have missed the point entirely. Nowhere did I say that Blizzard should start itemising for Combat rogues specifically. In fact, I even indicated that I understood why this has happened - the removal of AP on weapons that meant that swords could no longer be itemised for both Str and Agi classes at the same time, so rogues only share itemisation with Enh shamans (and arguably hunters until MoP).
The solution I was arguing for wasn't "give us more swords", it was very clearly "let us transmog our maces, axes and daggers into swords" so that we can use the looks of items created for us in previous years and let us stop having the awkward "applying poison with a hammer" problem and the even more awkward combat animation look of attacking with a huge mallet in one hand and a little dagger in the other.
I hate to say it, man - but you're kind of the reason why everyone laughs at Shaman QQ right now.

The ninja look is part of how I'm doing my rogue alt, so if you figure how to get dual katana models, advertise it loudly. Difference is my base, love the look of the Cadaverous set (nice highlights on a basic black model), with the clefthoof mask (or an eyepatch)
adyuaa Dec 18th 2011 8:33AM
I gave up on transmogging my healers' weapons. Power Torrent overpowers any choice I make, so I just have an equip/unequip macro, Power Auras so I don't go into fight without it, and save anything interesting for a time when weapon enchants aren't so flashy.
Berna Dec 18th 2011 9:18AM
I have transmogrified my mace to Sin'Dall's Femur. The Power Torrent is tolerable on that. (I still wish it were a lot smaller, though.) I'm glad I kept that bone, it goes great with my worgen's white leather outfit. :-)
gewalt Dec 18th 2011 1:27PM
there are many weapons in game that have their own enchant aura, that will override any enchant effect on the weapon.
I have my rogue daggers xmogged to http://www.wowhead.com/item=17780/blade-of-eternal-darkness just so my poor goblin wont be blinded by the redonkulously bright landslide anymore.
Mycroft Dec 18th 2011 8:33AM
Long before any hint of mogging was announced, just for fun my paladin went and built up most of a Scarlet Crusader set (don't have the tabard yet though). But (like Hoboken above) I can't wear it since it's mail.
lilywillylover Dec 18th 2011 8:15PM
You should get the Furious Gladiator Pally Set. It's black and red with some gold. It looks great for evil Pally types.
Ice Dec 18th 2011 8:34AM
Yes.
On my hunter I would love to use leather gear. It feels more natural to wear it as hunter..well some reason is also that my hunter is on RP server and uses leather gear as uniform.
But on my main I use cloth so I've always been stuck at cloth anyway. I would love to use leather eyepatches too, but there might be work arounds that. Engineer goggles look good too etc.
But yes the weapon rules are bit annoying. I'm stuck with staff this tier because theres only ONE offhand and thats from TRASH so 1h+offhand is pretty much no go. Not to mention the only 1h seems to be dagger in Dragon soul.
Astoreth Dec 18th 2011 2:13PM
FWIW, there are a couple of mail sets that look very leathery. Talhide Armor, for example (http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=285). I know brown might not be what you had in mind, but with a little footwork you might be able to piece together something decent...!
Ice Dec 18th 2011 8:07PM
That set looks actually very clothy. I know few cloth pieces that look exactly like that..I wonder how is that mail tho. Looks good.
I was thinking more of this however for my hunter:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l22/Ic3leaf/Kirina_forum/BelfScout.jpg
("swashbuckler" leather gear or blue version "glyphed" set and some quest items those that want to know)
I'm very into outfits and got both bank, bags(with biggest bags) and void storage full of gear to transmog. But sadly the gear restrictions make half of em useless for my hunter :(
My hunter looks currently like this tho:
http://www.wowhead.com/compare?items=41157:29084:33590:50114:41203:49897:72876:50038:35221;50966
I quite like it myself.

Once upon a time there was a warrior. That warrior was around level thirty. That warrior spent months putting together the incredibly hard to farm Scarlet set from Scarlet Monastery. He eventually completed his set. But alas, by the time he had completed his set, he had reached level 40, and mail gear was soon obsolete. In remembrance of his little side-mission, he stored the armor in his bank to remember the monastery.
It's three expansions later, and we have the option to wear nearly whatever gear set we want... except, for some of us, those sets we earned before level 40, which I find a real shame because most classes can do just that. Any cloth and leather-wearer doesn't have this issue. No, only mail and plate-wearers have the luxury of not being able to transmogrify the gear they used before level 40.
So yeah, I would like to go back and wear the Scarlet Crusader set. I just wish I didn't have to be a hunter or a shaman to do so.
Blayze Dec 18th 2011 8:54AM
I can't be a Jedi because all the modern non-caster swords are One-Hand and not Main Hand (And I can't robe it up like my caster friends), I can't be a Scarlet Crusader because the Scarlet set is Mail, I can't even get rid of the Gavel of Peroth'arn because I've not yet found a good one-handed mace that fits the stupid restrictions Blizzard decided to place on this system.
