The Queue: Donksliders 2

I expected the body type slider in The Old Republic to maybe increase my female character's muscle mass, but it turns out I could have just removed "muscle m-" from that phrase. Meanwhile, guys get wholly different body types, including a huge, muscle-bound one. Just because it's sci-fi doesn't mean we're free from fantasy body type conventions, apparently.
Lillyth asked:
So my question is: would running organized betting on 1v1 Duels, /roll, lotteries, etc. violate the ToS / EULA so long as any gold earned was used for in-game purposes only?
As Mat McCurley explained recently, running a gambling operation of any kind is against Blizzard's policies. Doesn't matter if it's a lottery or a straight-up bet on the outcome of a duel -- it's still against the rules.
Hoofio asked:
Nevermind all this monks-talents-pandas-pokemon stuff what about the real question for MoP ... what's the monk's colour going to be? Seems to me dark green is the biggest space on the spectrum..
Blizzard answered this recently: The devs chose a jade green color, though it's subject to change if necessary.
Possum asked:
Is it a good idea to get the Curse Downloader? I've heard that there are/have been security issues with it so I'm wary but I'm so damn sick of re downloading all my addons manually every patch.
There's risk in using any third-party program to get your addons, but the Curse downloader is pretty safe as far as those kinds of programs go. Combine it with a normal antivirus/antispyware program and savvy internet habits, and you should be just fine.
Ilmyrn asked:
Is there any way to change what login screen appears? Personally, I liked the Vanilla loading screen of the Azeroth Dark Portal best, and it would be awesome if there was some way to still use that one.
No way that's legal under the Terms of Use, no. You're stuck with Deathwing until Mists of Pandaria launches.
Brian asked:
What did akama do ingame before bc
Well, he didn't do anything in WoW itself prior to The Burning Crusade. Before his appearance in BC, though, back before even the First War, Akama was the guardian of the Temple of Karabor on Draenor. When the orcs, under control of the Burning Legion, began attacking the draenei, Akama helped the survivors evacuate the temple. During his time in hiding, he was exposed to the same fel energies that mutated the orcs and his fellow draenei, giving him the appearance we're familiar with today.
In the Warcraft 3 expansion The Frozen Throne, Kael'thas and Lady Vashj came through the Dark Portal just as Akama was attempting to fight off an army of demons, including the pit lord Magtheridon. After Kael and Vashj aided him and defeated Magtheridon, he pledged his loyalty to their good friend Illidan, which didn't get him very far, as we see in BC.
jfofla asked:
Now that SWTOR has crashed and burned, how long before the GW2 is the WOW Killer hype starts?
TOR hasn't even officially launched yet. I think it's a little early to be singing funeral dirges.

what do you mean SWTOR crashed and burned? something happened?
Knob Dec 18th 2011 12:11PM
Nah, typical MMO-player rhetoric. Happens everytime a high-profile MMO launches.
Adam Dec 18th 2011 12:13PM
I'm guessing possibly a reference to the reports of long queues to log in to the servers during early access.
Salviati Dec 18th 2011 12:30PM
Yeah, a small group of rebel forces managed to attack it at it's one vulnerable point - a small thermal exaust port. No one could have predicted that this would happen.
Turion Dec 18th 2011 12:25PM
it's quite hilarious really. There was much forum QQ about queues, unverified claims of exploits and max level chars on the first day of early access and pretty much various butthurt over people not getting enough sugar blown up their asses by bioware.
Meanwhile servers are stable, queues manageable and I haven't heard much negative feedback in game.
Seriously, if this is "crashing and burning" I wonder what they'd call games that actually failed.
If anything swtor has the smoothest (pre)launch I've seen so far.
alzeer Dec 18th 2011 12:25PM
according to the internet : if it didn't get 11 million subs in the 1st day = crashed and burned.
Malnore Dec 18th 2011 12:37PM
Yeah. It went up against WoW.
Ringo Flinthammer Dec 18th 2011 12:47PM
It's not the MMO Messiah people wanted it to be -- seriously, it's "just" an MMO version of Dragon Age or, more accurately, Mass Effect -- but it certainly is living up to the promise of being the most credible competition for WoW yet.
The question will be how Bioware does with MMO issues they haven't had to face yet: patching (there are a lot of little polish issues) and additional content, especially at the top end.
If they can beat those two issues -- and plenty of companies have died on those particular hills -- they've got a major hit on their hands. I don't even like Star Wars that much (thanks, Return of the Jedi and prequels!), and I've lost all weekend to the game.

SW:TOR is the Deathstar? :o
Deathknighty Dec 18th 2011 1:22PM
@Ringo Flinthammer
Or maybe even, oh, I dunno, Knights of the Old Republic?
N-train Dec 18th 2011 2:52PM
I don't think its necessarily fair to compare this to other MMOs that have "gone against WoW" and then "failed spectacularly" because Star Wars is pretty ridiculously well known as an IP and therefore gives it an advantage over a brand new IP like RIFT or a smaller IP like Age of Conan.
People played RIFT expecting it to be WoW but better, and when it didn't really hold up, many of them left. People are flocking to play SWTOR because they can be a jedi and sith and all that silly George Lucas nonsense, and from what I've heard it doesn't disappoint (save for all the people who didn't get early access).
I have a feeling that even if this game doesn't necessarily win over the strict MMO crowd (which I don't think it will, as I've heard it described as Mass Effect that begrudgingly has an MMO in it), it'll still stay pretty popular because its got Star Wars in front of it. You may have people who've never heard of Warcraft outside the South Park Episode, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know what a Jedi is.

"Nah, typical MMO-player rhetoric. Happens everytime a high-profile MMO launches."
But it hasn't launched yet?
(Not that it matters - this little Red-Zoner says "shove it, it's a buyer's market" to their "well, maybe you'll be able to play June next year?" vagueness)
loop_not_defined Dec 18th 2011 3:19PM
I'd throw in 'class balance' with "issues only faced in MMOs".
Finding powerful combos/talent builds/etc. in single-player games is awesome. Not so much in this industry.
Gorkarp Dec 18th 2011 4:13PM
Yeah, we looked at it in the Beta. I got bored immediately. It's exactly like WoW except you don't care about characters, story, or questline lore. I'm the first person to like Sci Fi over fantasy- I never thought I would play WoW at all. 5 years in, all the "wow" killers have come and gone. And as much as I wanted Star Wars to work, for me, it didn't.
Spiritfire Dec 18th 2011 4:53PM
It's possible that jfofla is confusing SWTOR with SWG, that was officially shut down the other day.
Bronwyn Dec 18th 2011 5:52PM
@Spiritfire
Perhaps, but you can't even count that because the only reason SWG shut down was because they were forced to with the release of SWTOR
gperrigo1 Dec 18th 2011 6:02PM
Quite frankly SWTOR is engaging, lore-driven, story heavy, and downright fun.
I preordered in late November and started playing on Thursday afternoon and have not been disappointed. I have two of my WoW guild-mates who took the plunge with me, and we're having a hard time leaving that galaxy far, far away to go back to Azeroth.
I'm sure TOR isn't for everyone, but it certainly isn't as bad as some of the haters say it is.
DarkFinch Dec 18th 2011 6:02PM
Is SWTOR run by the same folks that ran the Death Star?

John Schmidt Dec 18th 2011 6:13PM
SWTOR is fine. People are complaining about the queues, but I have heard they are only running the server cap at 33% to spread out the early access players across the servers...
Amaxe Dec 18th 2011 6:44PM
Well, it's good enough that I don't miss WoW.
It does has its problems though, so I'm not sure how long it will last once people get a main to 50 and start leveling alts.
