I'm also a raid leading guild leader as well as the first Dragonwrath recipient. I'm about 3-4 weeks away from getting mine too, since we're a 10 man raid.
With a 3 night raid schedule, I put 6/7 Firelands up for the first night. We get through it in 90 minutes to two hours, and then into Dragon Soul for the rest of the week. If progression stalls we might go back in for the last hour Thursday night and kill Ragnaros, but that's not a definite thing either.
In my opinion, you should keep your promise to the first Dragonwrath wielder and get her the staff. She won't get anything better from Cataclysm anyway, so I think it's time well spent. If you do this though, put your Firelands on the first night of the week or you're going to have people like the complainer show up for DS and suddenly be busy on the FL nights.
Also, every pug you bring in is a lowered chance to get your 6/7 done efficiently, so keep as many members of your central team in with you as you can.
