The Queue: Frogs, Doctor Who, Celery, and Penny Arcade
I came across the above video on Reddit yesterday, and as typical of such findings, I thought to myself, "Oh my, this has to go in The Queue."
And so it goes.
Ashlar asked:
Why are people in the raid finder such assholes?
Not everyone is. I certainly am not when I venture forth into it.
It all has to do with anonymity, too; when people are anonymous and see no consequences for their actions, they tend to have no sense of decency and respect for others. Truly (and I say this after working for this site for almost four years now -- my god, it's been a long time), it's the worst of humanity.
Penny Arcade has one of my favorite comics ever on the subject. It's not safe for work (at least, the words are not safe).
Krem asked:
Are there any games/companies who do cinematics and cinematic trailers as good as Blizzard? Competition seems slim...
Blizzard has always been at the forefront of cinematics and computer graphics. I remember as a kid just being in awe at some of the Warcraft and StarCraft cinematics (and getting to meet some of the people who worked on those later on as an adult was pretty awesome).
That said, I think Blizzard's work still represents the bar that everyone judges themselves by. Rockstar is pretty solid in the cinematics department, and BioWare is too, of course. It'd be pretty hard to say which of those three is reigning supreme at any one moment, but overall, Blizzard is the best (in my book).
I should also note how seriously amazing Blizzard's musical works are. There are few places left that treat music as such an important aspect of storytelling, and Blizzard does an amazing job in this department. Russell Brower is particularly impressive in what he's been able to accomplish for the medium (and he even has a nod in-game as a key quest giver out in Twilight Highlands for the Alliance).
Felix asked:I probably missed something but if Nozdormu lost his powers how can he go insane in the future and still have his powers?
Because the future where he goes insane is just one possible future we were dealing with (dealt with). It's time travel, so it's best to just nod your head and eat some celery.
Noyou asked:
Anyone with a Mechanohog or Mekgineer's chopper notice there is a considerable amount of vibration when you ride it? I have it on 4 toons and never noticed it until now. Is this new or was it always there?
It's always been there.
Chris asked:
Anyone know if Blizz plans to put back city portals? It occurred to me while sitting at the zeppelin dock waiting to get to UC for the Greench daily that we had city portals for most of WotLK. Why are they still gone? How does it possibly improve the game experience to keep them out? I spend way too much time ferrying toons around and not actually playing the game IMO.
Blizzard's original thinking still stands -- the uber-presence of portals like in Wrath would just lead to the capital cities' being deserted, because everyone would congregate where the portals are. That's not what Blizzard wants. (You can all agree or disagree, but that's what it's told us all the motive is in Cataclysm.) Things have changed a little in that there's a portal to Stormwind/Orgrimmar in Dalaran now up all the time -- so there's that, at least.
Does Blizzard have plans to put portals back in to all the cities? None that I've heard.

Can anyone tell me who Murozond's voice actor is in End Time? I *love* that voice acting, and I thought finding this info would be fairly simple and straightforward... but so far, no luck! I may just be a moron here, but willing to admit that if it can get me an answer!

I did not KNOW.
Uh, I mean, I don't know, that's a good question. :P
omedon666 Dec 22nd 2011 11:27AM
Really? I always make fun of Murozond for sounding like Dave Mustane.
To each their own, I guess. :)
aelders5124 Dec 22nd 2011 11:28AM
He sounds like Eric Bana as Nero in Star Trek
Dr. Rocketscience Dec 22nd 2011 11:57AM
I always think he sounds like Martin Sheen on a particularly bad bender.
Niraikanai Dec 22nd 2011 11:57AM
I personally think Liam O'Brian does a better job with Illidan's voice, but you're right about Murozond sound awesome.

I still get a kick out of hearing him say, "Is this your PLOT, your SCHEEEME?"
I really wish that Blizzard would credit their games' voice actors more publicly. I become fascinated with voice actors since I started listening to the VoicePrint podcast:

Except that then they'd have to admit how many voices are done by each actor. It would reduce players' immersion in the game a bit if they knew that one of the flight masters, a quest NPC, and 2 bosses all had the same voice actor.

I LOVE Murozond. He's such a dick to you. He's a master of the insults when you come up against him. Personal favorite: "You're like a blind, writhing WORRRM!" Awesome.
ZodiacDragons Dec 22nd 2011 2:25PM
My favorite line is when he goes "This is madness!" I have a macro ready with "Madness? THIS! IS! AZEROTH!!!"

Murazond almost sounds like Dean Stockwell to me
djsuursoo Dec 22nd 2011 2:58PM
nozdormu sounds to me a lot like the voice actor who portrayed sword master Piandao in the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender(Sokka's Master).
Gorkarp Dec 22nd 2011 6:24PM
Really? It's actually quite a good example of "over-acting" or yelling your lines. It's probably the worst voice acting in Warcraft, although I do like the timbre of his voice, just not the delivery.
suh8lim3 Dec 23rd 2011 12:20AM
I have to agree with some of the others. This guy has the worst voice acting in the game I've seen so far. When I first heard it I remember laughing like, "Is this really what Blizzard think a dragon should sound like?". I don't think I did one instance of End Time that entire first 2 weeks of 4.3 without someone asking me it was he/she or did the dragon sound weird.
Ximnos Dec 23rd 2011 1:29AM
Actually, according to Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist plus many other anime shows) said at a panel that the key to being a voice actor is to be as intense as possible with your performance. If the directors tell you to tone it down then you do that. Otherwise, go for it with all you got.

I've been leveling a healer through the dungeon finder. I'm a US player, and lately I keep getting groups with Brazilian players. Is this coincidental, or is there some goof in the LFD system?
(Requisite Pun: Brazilian players? That's a lot of people!)
lavergne.joseph Dec 22nd 2011 11:10AM
Are you sure it is Brazilian? I know Rag is one of the spanish speaking realms and I know I hate running into them when I am running instances.
zackwbrandon Dec 22nd 2011 11:20AM
Brazillians don't speak Spanish.
bloodworthc Dec 22nd 2011 11:21AM
ditto that. I'm no elitist, but I *hate* randoms with players from Rag.
