The Queue: Tentacle face

Warlock tier 13.
Either Cthulhu took over or I'm stuck in one of those really, really strange anime.
Rhuarc asked:
Last night I was looking through guild perks and noticed they changed the name of the G-mail perk to Guild Mail. When did this happen? And have their ever been other changes like this in game, where a witty pop culture reference is suddenly changed, if so what and when?
It has certainly been changed, but when exactly, I couldn't say. My guess is the last patch, though. As to why, well, we have no idea really. I have three educated guesses, though:
1. Google complained, and Blizzard changed it.
2. Someone in Blizzard's legal department didn't like it and got it changed, even with no Google complaints.
3. It was confusing from a gameplay element; people might have been thinking they could access their Gmail accounts with the perk.
Laugh at number three ... but when my mom (and your mom, heh- heh, your mom [yes, that's what The Queue has come to, Your Mom jokes]) sees Gmail, she expects Gmail, not something else.
Mmcpattillo asked:
Q for the Q: Was there a change implemented to the LFD Call to Arms Goodie Bags? It seems that currently, you only get the bag if the option is there when your queue pops, while before you got the bag if the option was there when you queued.
As was mentioned in the comments, there's been talk that there's a bug in the Dungeon Finder UI that's not showing the goodie bag icon in all appropriate situations. I've noticed this a few times as well on my healer, and I've always gotten the bag as a reward, as long as I queue when the goodie bag icon is present.
Whig asked:
My Retribution tier set has no matching boots and belt. Both the VP pieces and the raid drops match the DK or Warrior sets.
Am I just expected to save up even more VP, buy the holy tier pieces (which do match) and mog them? Am I a fashion victim?
Sounds like you are. I'm in the same boat with my warlock. I mean, who the hell wants to run around as Tentacle Face when I could look like a badass healer with their valor helm? I'm mogging into that the first chance I get.
Remember that (especially if you're raiding) valor points will become essentially useless in a few weeks when you're fully 397-equipped. That, or wait until MoP, when the items (theoretically) drop down to justice rewards. Either way, since it's not a mechanics issue, it's not a game-breaking thing.

Get off my case, tentacle face!
DarkWalker Dec 27th 2011 7:17PM
I can't stop thinking "Duck in a Cowl" when I see that 'lock headpiece...
Well, at least it doesn't look like a steampunk chicken like the Mage headpiece...
Welldead Dec 27th 2011 11:07AM
looks like C'thun came back for vengeance!
Aggy Dec 27th 2011 12:21PM
Sad part is that it's not warlock specific....my mage is wearing a similar skinned helm, too...
It's like I buried my head up an ent's arse and this is all they could save...

actually, the ability to use your Gmail from in-game would be pretty damn cool.
or twitter(i don't, but i understand a couple people out there use it).
or is this an 'there's an addon for that'?
on healer bags: is it just me, or does it seem like the rewards, especially cash, got downgraded?
my healer is averaging about 40-odd gold per bag, i recall i was pulling minimum 80 per, on my tank.

I think there can't be "an addod for that" - I'm 99% certain that the ToS fire addons says they can't interact with external data/services. Things like AtlasLoot have the entire database in files with the addon, they don't ping Wowhead each time.
djsuursoo Dec 27th 2011 11:46AM
so now i'm wondering how addons for the undermine journal and world of logs work... do you manually fire off reports after logging out? or are the reports manually fired off from within the game at the user's discretion?
personally i don't see the issue.. if the external site in question has an API that allows for remote access of its content, like GMAIL(which has APIs for python-built homebrew browsers and other languages can do the work so long as they match the protocols for transfer, and it's not hard to make python and lua work together(there's extensions for that))
okay, i could understand it from a bandwidth point, but the only person that's going to affect is the individual user, as they're multiplexing from their Point Of Access to the web.
i'll have to look into that, as i was planning on twiddling with mangler's API to see if i could control it from in-game, or just bypass the external version and run it within lua code altogether(gotta love open-source)

There is/was a twitter add on, I think it was called tweetcraft or something like that. Not sure if its around anymore.

As far as Satchels of Goodies go, I've noticed a significant drop in value as well. Not just gold, but the actual items themselves. I used to get SOME pets during the Zul'Agains, as well as valuable flasks. These past few weeks have netted me less gold, some really crappy potions and a handful of really cheap gems. I don't know why I still hold out for the Call to Arms when that's all I'm getting xD
djsuursoo Dec 27th 2011 1:15PM
theories for reduction in rewards from the bags:
they were destabilizing the economy.
on my tank i was pulling average 100g per bag. i was snagging flasks worth 100+ gold in the AH, pets that were worth up to 10k(i could have sold it for up to double that, too), and gems by the handful.
on a high population server it wouldn't be that bad. but on one of the ghost-towns...
that sort of thing could easily shift where a lot of gold is held.

There most certainly is an addon for those, it's called a second monitor.
djsuursoo Dec 27th 2011 1:40PM
second monitor: minimum 120-ish USD, on sale.
addons: free. or, if you write them yourself, a few hour's coding.
haven't seen WoW running across multiple monitors. dunno how the mouse would handle the transition. i know in window'd mode mine gets really grumpy, but that's partially because of WINE telling it to shut up and just deal with the transitions.
slim1256 Dec 27th 2011 2:19PM
But... I thought Second monitor was for the WowHead/IcyVeins/Vent Addon?
That's always what's running on mine... :)

Someone in guild got the Raven Lord yesterday, hasn't been nerfed that much apparently.
djsuursoo Dec 27th 2011 2:52PM
madfigs:
the raven lord reins were something like 1/1000 from the get-go.
but the overall 'normal' value of a satchel seems to have depreciated within the system. now whether this 'value' is based on the number of people receiving them(thusly bigger rewards when the need for a particular role is greater), or it's just simply been nerfed overall, that remains to be discovered.
Shinae Dec 27th 2011 11:17AM
The whole issue with strength plate off-tier pieces (belts and boots) matching the DK or warrior tier sets but not paladin sets has been present for this whole expansion and before. I guess Blizz expects paladins to at least have Holy off-spec. :P
loop_not_defined Dec 27th 2011 11:39AM
Well, there's three classes and three roles, and only one of those three classes can fill the Healing role. If it's not Paladins buying healing pieces, then it's DKs or Warriors getting nothing at all.
Revynn Dec 27th 2011 11:17AM
There are hundreds of belts in the game, I'm sure you can find another one somewhere that matches at least the color of your Ret set.
WoW Model Viewer would be a great place to start looking.
Sarahjane Dec 27th 2011 11:20AM
The MogIt addon is wonderful, and unlike Model Viewer, there's no need to log out to use it. Plus it will give you an idea of where the items drop.

@Adam Holisky
Hey I take offense to the remark about my gnome Mage wearing the tentacle face...
He was awesome to look at until my guildies said they were creeped out by the tentacle tongue. I had to mog it into my engineer goggles to appease their fears.
