I'm sure this will have been mentioned, but Blizz tried to recapture some of this with the requirement to find dungeons before you could run them, plus you really did need to CC mobs to survive with the semi-pitiful gear that you had when you could first enter.
The thing is, now more than ever, stat inflation means for us to recognize an upgrade, it has to be a certain amount. If I am doing 10k dps on a 300k mob, it takes 30 seconds. But every upgrade probably adds another 1-3k dps at this point so by the time I'm completely tier 11, I'm doing 15-20kdps without buffs which means that mob now takes 15-20 seconds. Since tier 12 needs to feel like an upgrade, and now tier 13, many people are pushing 30+k dps, so now it takes 10 or fewer seconds.
Also, Blizz feels like people didn't re-embrace the need for CC, so they nerfed the newer dungeons not to be quite so bad. Also they are there for story more than gear anyways, so again, they didn't want it taking a long time.
So.... didn't we have this Breakfast Topic at the end of Wrath, and everyone was excited for Cataclysm where we would have the BC like dungeons because it's so boring to speed race through heroics? So didn't we have painful heroics at the beginning of this expansion? Oh yeah, yes, we did. Just because we outgear content doesn't mean they should lose their "heroic" title or that it lost the heroic feel.
