The Queue: Being a nothlit is cheating
I can't explain why, but last night on Twitter I went on an Animorphs nostalgia trip and took most of my followers down Reminiscence Lane with me. Eventually the discussion devolved into a debate over which animorph was the best. I think we need to settle this in the most relevant place possible: a World of Warcraft blog.
Personally, I'm going with Rachel. If you choose anybody but Rachel, you're wrong and should feel bad about yourself.

Necromann asked:
What level in first aid do I need to do the DMF monthly? Also, is it weird to 0 linen cloth on the AH?
You need a skill of 75 in your trade skills before you can do the Darkmoon Faire monthly quests. That applies to all trade skills, not just first aid. As for there being no Linen Cloth on the Auction House ... I'm not surprised. Players don't spend much time in the level range where you'd be looting Linen Cloth, but every single person leveling first aid and tailoring need it. A new tailor nowadays probably doesn't loot nearly enough linen to skill up properly. I imagine they have the same problem with wool.
Caylynn asked:
Are the quests for the Darkmoon Faire to hand in the artifacts not repeatable? I have one of the PvP artifacts in my bags, and I went to take the quest for it today. I received a "quest is already complete" message, but I haven't completed it yet for this DMF. I did do the quest last month.
They are meant to be repeatable, but some of them have bugged out and haven't reset as intended. Blizzard is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. This is the first opportunity those quests have had to reset in a live environment, so there are bound to be some bugs to work out. Hopefully Blizzard can take care of the issue this week and we won't have to worry about it going forward.
Yvl asked:
Not EXACTLY WoW related, but Q4Q anyway: Is this fake? Dunno who else to ask about this.
I certainly don't want to make a habit of answering The Old Republic questions in The Queue, but I can help out with this one. As far as I'm aware, no, that is not fake. It was a pretty hot topic in the TOR community over the weekend. Players were exploiting an endgame PvP zone with low-level characters to acquire endgame items and equipment. Exploits are exploits. As we've seen so often in World of Warcraft, creative use of game mechanics is never a valid defense.
Sergel asked:
BTW, about the Breakfast topic, how long does it take to get a response? I wrote mine over 1000 days ago, but the last breakfast topic i did i got a response within a week
Uh ... 1,000 days ago was almost three years ago. I'm fairly certain you couldn't have submitted a guest post three years ago. I'm going to assume there's an extra digit on the end of that number and it's supposed to be 100? Either way, we no longer use the Seed program. I hate answering these sort of things in public because I find that rude, but you asked in public, so ... you should have received a rejection notice. If for some reason you didn't receive one, congratulations! You were still rejected. Sorry, dude. Every article we've accepted via Seed has been published. If something hasn't been published, it wasn't accepted.
Andrew R. asked:
2 questions for The Queue. I recently switched to a smart phone and have access to the mobile authenticator. Is the mobile authenticator more handy than the stand alone authenticator I bought when they first came out?
I use the mobile authenticator now and have no problems with it. I used the dongle for a long time, but it was one of the first-generation authenticators (I was an extremely early adopter), and I figured it would kick the bucket eventually and switched. Better safe than sorry, right? I know there are a lot of people out there who won't use the mobile authenticator, though. I think it's a don't put all of your eggs into one basket issue. If you lose your phone, you lose access to your WoW account, too. Until you call customer service, anyway.
Which you need your phone to do.
Which you lost.
Good job.

I have never even heard of an Animorph...however I picked David--whomever he may be--because I could.
I regret nothing. :P
Nayer Jan 2nd 2012 11:12AM
He's a rat. (Literally)
RogueJedi86 Jan 2nd 2012 11:17AM
Long story short, spoilers for the series abound:
David was the sixth Animorph. They recruited him after he found the device that gave the Animorphs their ability to morph into animals. His parents got taken by the enemy in the battle at his house for said alien device. He didn't mesh well with the other Animorphs, tried to kill them, and got stuck in morph as a rat(you get stuck in a morph if you stayed morphed for more than 2 hours, that's what a nothlit is, one stuck in a morph). He was left as a rat on an island fr the rest of his life, screaming in thought-speak aloud all the while. I think he came back near the end as a minion of what amounted to the ultimate Big Bad of the series, but that's one of the books I didn't read so I can't tell you anything about what he did in that book.
I hope at least some of that made sense to you.
Noyou Jan 2nd 2012 11:26AM
Okay, now I feel bad picking David. Kind of.
ravyncat Jan 2nd 2012 11:37AM
Ah...well I still don't feel bad about picking him. Perhaps he felt he needed to be really really bad since he was stuck with being a cliched dirty rat. :O
Now that I think on it, I think some of my guildies have mentioned these books before but they are way after my time.
I grew up on old school Nancy Drew, you youngsters!
RogueJedi86 Jan 2nd 2012 11:42AM
He was only trapped in rat form as a punishment to control him after he went evil and tried to kill them. They realized just how annoying their powers were to their enemy after seeing how someone could use it against them to spy or attack them or whatever. He had a Golden Eagle Morph for taking them down in bird form, and a lion morph for ground combat. He claimed he wouldn't kill humans, but animals were fair game(including people in the forms of animals).
Also, Jake and Rachel had a cousin in a serious accident who was on the verge of death. The fate of Saddler(the cousin) was left implied, but it seems David killed this cousin, hid the body, and took over as Saddler in a morph to have a family again. He was a really really effed up kid.
Still happy you voted for a guy that killed a comatose dying kid to get that kid's happy life?
ravyncat Jan 2nd 2012 12:00PM
To be honest, I don't care either way.
I have not read this series, I am not going to read this series, and none of them are real anyway so it is silly to get worked up about it.
Maximize Jan 2nd 2012 12:08PM
I used to be a huge fan of this series way back when it was being released. I'm pretty sure I read all of the 60 or 70 books including all the weird additional ones.
Rachel was far and away my favorite character. She went from being a popular teenage girl to what amounts to the group's enforcer. She was always doing the necessary but morally questionable tasks at which all of the other characters balked. The theory among some is that the war with the Yeerks messed her up and she'd never be able to function in normal society again. I believe the opposite. She was perfectly adapted in her initial environment, she adapted perfected to her new role in the war with the Yeerks, and she'd have adapted just as well to whatever civilian role she took up after the war.
Rachel is the RIGHT choice.
Snuzzle Jan 2nd 2012 12:25PM
Ax is clearly the only right choice. Dude was a freaking alien! Plus, hse could eat a whole tray of cinnamon buns without barfing. Clearly, Andalites are made of superior stuff.
Also good to see none of the "second gen" Animorphs are on this poll. Though David technically is I guess. Stupid David.
rodmin Jan 2nd 2012 12:26PM
Btw, which was Tobias's form?!?
FYI it was my random vote. I kinda liked the name and thought it was something (David was a name of a IRL friend whom i had a nasty memory i don't want to remember...)
ZodiacDragons Jan 2nd 2012 1:02PM
Marco was my favorite. Rachel would be second to Marco. I couldn't stand the books with Cassie and, to some extent, Tobias. IMO Cassie is the worst choice. The books with David, though he was a fucked up penis, are actually my favorite in the series. Never read the one where he came back as a rat but I read the preview in the back of the book and yeah I can see why it would be the worst of the series...Now I want to read them again..I still have all my books. Never watched the show. Was it good?
jrussellp.moose Jan 2nd 2012 2:10PM
@rodmin
Tobias is a little complex, although he is by far my favorite. In one of the early books he was trapped in the body of a hawk (2 hour limit violation :/ ) Later on, with the power of an alien called the Ellimist, he was able to regain the power to morph with hawk being his "main form". He was also able to retrieve his human dna that allowed him to become his human self for 2 hours at a time.
I never told anyone this...but there is a reason I named my dog Toby...
Skarn Jan 2nd 2012 2:51PM
Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten about David.
@ravyncat I grew up on the Hardy Boys, so nyah! Animorphs was a good series too. I really enjoyed it. Some very funny moments, some really deep ones and definitely some tragic ones. Very odd, but cool, for what was pegged a children's book series.
And for the record: Jake. I've always identified with the leader-type characters in series. There is probably some relation there to why I am a raid leader now. Also: He turned into a tiger. That was awesome!
Andrew Jan 2nd 2012 2:52PM
Mr. Moose Rustler (yes, that is how I choose to read your name),
Spot on. Tobias was the only choice. Dude kept his humanity after being forced to live like a hawk for the rest of his life. That takes some inner strength none of the other Animorphs ever had to deal with.
Well, Jake was the other choice, but only because Shawn and Aaron Ashmore are foxes.
Ullaana Jan 2nd 2012 3:34PM
Well, if we are going to mention the books we grew up with, Tom Swift, Jr. fan here.
My daughters liked the TV series, but I don't think they ever read the books.
Elfbane Jan 3rd 2012 5:50AM
How is Marco losing this? He had the sense of humor AND did a better job of being the morale person than Cassie. Not to mention the fact that his mom ended up being one of the highest ranking Yeerks gave him the most interesting reason to fight. If you didn't vote for Marco, you're wrong.
Amaxe Jan 3rd 2012 11:29AM
I'm contrarian so I did vote for David.
I also proudly voted for the Cardboard Assassin

I don't know anything about that TOR "exploit", but if the lowlevel characters could enter that highlevel zone and traverse it with little risk, it was an oversight from the developers, not something you punish players for when they find out about it. You fix the hole (don't let lowlevels into that zone) and go on about your other business.
RogueJedi86 Jan 2nd 2012 11:32AM
It wasn't with no risk. From what I hear, the low level players were being escorted by high level members of the opposite faction specifically so the low levels could cap objectives. To analogize to Wintergrasp, it'd be like level 80s Hordies escorting a level 10 Alliance around Wintergrasp so he could cap objectives so the Horde could capture them back. It was win-trading basically, and we know Blizzard sure frowned on that.
I'm sure BioWare will fix it by putting a level 40 minimum level for landing on Ilum or something, like how Wintergrasp eventually got a level 65 or so minimum to access.
Nathanyel Jan 2nd 2012 7:17PM
Ah, the "help" from the other faction wasn't apparent in what I read, it sounded like the ressources of Tol Barad Peninsula minus the mobs.
