It appears that the holidays are over at Blizzard today, as our first new content since the launch of patch 4.3 has hit the public test realms with a few interesting tidbits. MMO-Champion has got
the full scoop, showing off the datamined Feldrake mount as well as a new
World of Warcraft optimization feature that can slim down
WoW's footprint on your system. A 64-bit game client is also teased with the addition of a Text x86 client marking, and new client strings show off some of the
WoW parental controls.
A rideable Feldrake as well as an Eye of the Legion pet, hmm? Could these items give us any clues toward the
Mists of Pandaria launch events that are going to be happening presumably within the next few months, making way for the next expansion? Are we getting a glimpse of a demonic invasion that will leave the Horde and the Alliance scrambling to fight off enemies from all sides?
Check out all of the changes for patch 4.3.2 over
at MMO-Champion.
Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

And don't forget about our weekly holy pally nerf. Glad I switched mains to my mage.
Carune Jan 3rd 2012 6:47PM
That nerf was put in 4.3 this is just a tooltip correction.
madfigs Jan 3rd 2012 6:49PM
It's a tooltip fix, this went live weeks ago.

There could be a "Well of Eternity" TCG expansion coming out that the mount/pet are from. Otherwise, we've got some surprises ahead of us, it seems like.
Also: that Lock and Load change makes me very, very happy.
kingoomieiii Jan 4th 2012 10:23AM
Oh, yes. There's a blue post specifically about that change- looks like it's going live. It's been an inconvenience for the spec since 3.0.1.
Suzaku Jan 5th 2012 1:59AM
Possible, but the next TCG set is Crown of the Heavens, which introduces playable demons (along with ogres and dryads). So it might just be from that.
Suzaku Jan 5th 2012 2:06AM
Actually, scratch that. Crown of the Heavens already has the loot cards listed.
Given the naming structure of the Aftermath, and the "three loot cards" thing, I'll say that the third set will almost certainly be "War of the Ancients".
Aftermath 1/3: Throne of the Tides
Aftermath 2/3: Crown of the Heavens
Aftermath 3/3: War of the Ancients

TIME_PLAYED_ALERT = "You have been playing for %s. Excessive gameplay can cause inconvenience in your daily life.";
In the past, I've put parental controls on myself to try to limit my playtime. If the above indicates that there will be a client-side timer/alert you can put on yourself, I'm all for it! Not just to alert yourself to unintended 8 hour marathons, I could also use it as a gentle yet obtrusive reminder that I need to go somewhere tonight, or that the turkey in the oven will be done soon!

I didn't think we were getting another raid/mini raid before MOP. Maybe it's a pre-event or tcg item like others have said?

this patch is a definite improvement in optimizing space. it reduced install size from 28gigs down to 17gigs. It literally deletes data files, rebuilds what it can through launcher, then downloads 3.7 gigs of new data files to replace some of ones deleted that are more optimized
it means this patch is going to suck for those that need a mirror, or on slow connections, but beyond that it's going to be a godsend for us that like to use SSDs for wow to see such a large space freeing
Drakkenfyre Jan 3rd 2012 7:42PM
Glad to hear this. It will also speed up performance.
Over time, the loading has gotten slower, and slower. Whereas you could load into SW in just a few seconds once, now it's like 30 seconds on a fast system.
I hope this also removes the cache rebuilding. The game will take files which already exist on the hard drive, and copy them into a cache file. One of them is the game's audio. It makes absolutely no sense to take the game's sounds.mpq file, and make copies of all audio, and have the copies in a separate file, and take up more room. Unless there's some behind the scenes poor optimization going on, eating up GB's of space for duplicate, redundant files is annoying. The game already has to decompress the files when it loads anyway. This can't save much time.
Whenever you see the Launcher "optimizing" files, this is one of the things it does. Extracts the files, and places them in one of the cache files.

This is a very good change. To keep patches small, they've been having you download, for example, a 1-gig package of new and updated files. The old files weren't deleted- just not used. This consolidation packs the current version of WoW into the main archives and scraps the unused parts.

"Survival
Lock and Load no longer affects Arcane Shots."
Oh thank god! I can't tell you how many times I've lost the 1st proc of L&L to an accidental use of Arcane Shot at just the wrong time. So much better now. I know the reason they had the proc affect AS is because ES wasn't available until later, but obv that's no longer a problem with it being the lvl 10 ability.
Yay!!
kingoomieiii Jan 4th 2012 10:31AM
*Rotation as normal*
*Finger falling through the air onto Arcane Shot*
*LOCK AND LOAD*
NOOOOOO*Arcane Shot*
kingoomieiii Jan 4th 2012 10:37AM
Also, in a similarly ridiculous state of affairs, the second tier of survival talents doesn't affect any ability you actually have at level 17, when you first earn those talent points (except for disengage, and Immolation Trap at 22).
Eldoron Jan 3rd 2012 6:53PM
Please, not demons! It was only 2 expansions ago
Vaeku Jan 3rd 2012 7:33PM
Please, not Old Gods! It was only this expansion and last expansion!
I'm all for demons. Mainly because demons mean draenei, and draenei mean draenei lore. :D
Eldoron Jan 3rd 2012 7:47PM
That comment only made sense if I was pro-old god.
Ostentaneous Jan 3rd 2012 7:54PM
So then you're pro vanilla? Sorry pal, but I like actual flavors.
Eldoron Jan 3rd 2012 8:02PM
Why would it mean that I'm pro-vanilla if I'm not pro-old god? Which I might be, I just said I didn't mention that so referring to that is silly with no previous mention. I just want to avoid the sh*tstorm the trolls would send towards Blizz over the "recycled theme". (Also I don't wish to see fel cannons again, that wasn't very warcraft-ish IMHO)
