Don't tell moonkin blogger
Tyler Caraway, but I sort of like druids. Whether or not they're the best at tanking or the best at DPS never really matters to me, though. I just like being able to change shapes and forms. Beating things up as a bear is
cool. Being a ferocious cat is
cool. Being a ferocious
cat that's on fire -- even
cooler.
There's only one thing I can think of that would make me even more excited to play a druid: more shapeshifting forms. So how about it? Do you like playing in shapeshifted form, even if you have to rely on trinkets to do it? Is there a new shapeshifted druid form that you'd like to see? Maybe the ability to play as a naga or a ferocious timbermaw?

YES!! I totally do.
Druids are the only class I have two fully levelled characters of. And no, I don't dual spec; one is a boomkin and the other, who was my first character ever, is a kitty. I'll never forget the day I got cat form (it was at or around level 20 at the time) and went on a quest to kill those Wrathscale Naga on Zoram Strand in Darkshore. I TORE through the required 20 of them and I've been in love with cat form since.
I have recently dusted off my long-shelved kitty and I am raving to everyone who cares to hear just how much FUN it is to play her. I love it so much I avoid shapeshifting back into caster form for short-to-medium distances because it's so much cooler to see my sleek black cat form bounding along. And just wait til I jump into the water and use glyphed Aquatic Form which makes me faster than just about anything else in water in the game.
And then I'll log my fluffy, huggable Boomkin and kick some mob-a$$ in raid finder, doing the chicken dance in between.

Huh. It got swallowed again! Sorry about the comment spam, this is my last try: I love my druids and although I realise the class wasn't originally all about shapeshifting, to me it definitely is these days :-)

This comment system doesn't like greater than/less than signs, as they make it think you're trying to do HTML.
So, unfortunately, no ASCII hearts :(... I assume that's what you were going for, the "less than sign" + 3.
Berna Jan 4th 2012 8:44AM
You can make a <3 sign by typing <3. But how do you make one of those links with a wowhead tooltip?
Noyou Jan 4th 2012 10:22AM
Leveling a druid is perhaps the most pure fun you can have in the game- from a casual player's standpoint. Getting around is super easy, especially when you hit level 60 and get flight form. I flew around and jumped off buildings for probably an hour. All the different forms- and I have yet to play a boomkin- but I want to. I am more drawn to hybrids, probably because you have such versatility. All the dances are fun- the druid is just a ball of fun. If you love questing and want to go for lore master, druid is probably the way to go. And yes, the shapeshifting is so much fun that I almost feel guilty if I am standing around in my elven form :p If you haven't tried a druid yet, please do.
Revnah Jan 4th 2012 10:42AM
Thanks guys, I think that was it! Wtb different comment system ;-)
Noyou, I did the same thing! To this day, I love leaving a building and jumping into the air to change into flight form (instead of standing still chanelling to summon a mount). It's perfect for someone as impatient as I am, lol.
I think I might go for Loremaster on my old main some time.

"But how do you make one of those links with a wowhead tooltip?"
I'm pretty sure that's just Javascript WI has added to their page so that any link to Wowhead will automatically have a tooltip. Like this:

Ogre Tanks FTW!

Couldn't agree more. There was just something about learning your shapeshifting forms and becoming the Druid you were always meant to be.
It was heart break felt class wide when the few who betrayed the class helped Blizz remove the tree from the class. It was sad to see it go. I still run resto and pop tree every time possible even if it won't benefit me.
The class could use maybe another shapeshift but more than that we need to keep the ones we have.
It's a beautiful class and if you don't want to be a bear, kitty, bird, tree, marine animal, or anything else then roll something else. I didn't ask Blizz to "straighten up" the Belf class so I could play it!

Much like you, Fox, my main is a shadow-priest. I do have a thing for our furry friends, my "main alt" (if such a term exists) is Arutha the mighty BearCat Druid. Except right now he's not, I never geared him feral for cataclysm, so he's a tree... 16% of the time, if I remember to use the form on cooldown, which I don't.
I don't shapeshift much at all actually. I will when I get my gear sorted for feral though. Then you can hear me roar.
or purr.
Nick Jan 4th 2012 9:55AM
Yay, worked out how to change my picture!
WoWie Zowie Jan 4th 2012 8:08AM
I do not enjoy shapeshifting with my druid to have access to other abilities, nor do I enjoy changing stances on my warrior. Its just not how I would prefer to play. I want all of my abilities right there in front of me at all times.
Mycroft Jan 4th 2012 11:31AM
This describes me as well. My main is a druid, and even towards the end of wrath I was staying away from tree form. I was so happy when they took it away. If I'm reading the new talents properly, it'll be possible not to have even the cooldown Captain Afro anymore.
My offspec right now is bearcat, mainly for soloing old dungeons and raids. If they take away the boomkin form (or give the option not to), I'll definitely switch over to Balance as off. Especially since bearcat as a true hybrid spec won't be viable anymore.

I feel like this breakfast topic really has MoP in mind and the new talents that encourage shifting frequently for miscellaneous benefits. I'm still on the fence about all of those talents because it seems like the whole thing might just be really clunky.
Druid has been my main for years. The majority of that time I played restoration. I was one of the ones that was glad when perma-tree was scrapped. As a progression raider, I wanted to see and show off my new gear. I do think they should have given us a minor glyph so that the nearly half of the druids out there that wanted it could have kept mini-broccoli perma-form.
One of the major things that's been missing from druid shifting is ANY diversity to the appearance until Majordomo Staghelm dropped his staff. While I realize that needing to do extra artwork for one class several times per major content patch is probably unrealistic, as a druid it feels like every other class constantly gets a fresh look while we look the same as we did while leveling.
Saz Jan 4th 2012 8:16AM
I most certainly DO love shape shifting! I think half of my time spent "leveling" my shaman (aka standing around in Ironforge) back in the day was me in my ghost wolf form. Once my druid got her kitty form? Oh, it was love at first morph. For both my shaman and druid, it appears that I'm a bit feral at heart. Now if only I could legitimately go into battle as a ghost wolf...
I can never resist getting my paws an an item that allows me to alter my form, no matter what character I play. It spices things up, if only for a short amount of time.
Sqtsquish Jan 4th 2012 1:46PM
druid doesn't change forms enough for me, staying kitty or bear all the time is kinda boring for me.
eirinefrostblade Jan 4th 2012 8:30AM
Absolutely! Loves me some kitty-druid to claw faces off (and knaw on ankles), then pop into my glyphed old-treeform for heals.
I would love a few more forms, or a larger variety of customization on our current ones. Different travel forms, anyone?
Shoikler Jan 4th 2012 8:41AM
I love shapeshifting! Since I gave up the life of crime, I mostly limit myself to a few default forms, but I'll break out something new on occasion. A tip: If you're going to become a draenei for a con, practice walking first. It's a whole new musculature down there.
Oh, wait, you meant in the game. Never mind. Ignore everything I just said.
JB Jan 4th 2012 8:42AM
I love my druid and it's forms. Although I never went tree, it broke my heart when they took away the permanent tree form :(. I am very rarely in NE form. When Cata came out I did Vashjir as my starting zone - and loved the fact I could be a seal :D. I just wish we could use travel form indoors, like shaman can use their ghost wolf...
And flight form is awesome and herbing in flight form is the king ;).
My druid was the first character I rolled just as BC came out, and is still my main - no other class, except maybe the DK, has come close.
As to other forms - wouldn't it be cool if we could switch to a shark instead of a seal?
