That's the problem with today's society. Everybody is so damn scared of offending other people they don't say anything. I asked a simple question and I get downvoted into oblivion by the "cult of niceties.".
If it had been revealed that one of the writers in question had been straight, there would be no raging fanboy/girls if a reader posted "wait, _____ is straight?". It is simply a question that could be met with just as simple of an answer as, "yes" or "no". No downvoting needed. It is built into the culture of the "culture of niceties" that if offense could POSSIBLY be taken in the smallest way, to jump on that and take offense to it at maximum level.
