Back when Cataclysm was first announced and Path of the Titans was still planned, it was my understanding that it had an Archeology tie-in. I think the reason it turned out the way it did was because half of the things they could have done with it, died with Path of the Titans.
I also thought then, and feel now, that there would/should be more of an emphasis placed on the Explorer's League and Reliquary as places to turn in artifacts for gold, rewards, rep, etc.
It needs to be more than it is now.
