I really enjoy archaeology and I don't think there's too much wrong with it. That's not to say it's perfect of course, but there is very little that actually needs to be fixed in my opinion.

I certainly wouldn't want to see the rare artifacts become easier to obtain - it would diminish their status greatly. What I would do is make the make the armour and weapons scalable with level, much in the same way as heirlooms work.
