Am I correct in believing that even with the real ID implementation, that there is still no way to ignore more than just an individual character, but an entire account?

This is something we'd like to add into the game in some capacity, particularly to compliment the upcoming BattleTag system.

The ability to ignore entire accounts?
*Removes glasses*
By god.

It does tickle your fancy, doesn't it?

I can certainly see where this can come in handy. Toward the end of TBC/beginning of LK, I had some issues with one particular player who kept sending me whispers with some rather disturbing content including, but not limited to, personal threats. (And yeah, it was more than the typical "lol u suck" variety.) I doubt that the person in question knew me personally or where I live, but they did continue to create alts and harass me as I ignored each toon that whispered me. I reported it to Blizzard, and they did get banned-- at which point they created another account.
Would have been so much easier if I could have just ignored the entire account(s) one at a time. At least it would have been an expensive stalking.

Ignoring accounts is soooo long overdue. Amen to this!

The ability to ignore whole accounts would be fantastic. If I could ignore Imamage on one character, who just so happens to be spamming his portal service advertisements every 2 minutes in Stormwind, and never have have to hear his /yells on any of my other characters? That'd be heavenly. Likewise if I /ignore Douchetank in a random, I never have to worry about having to be (unknowingly) grouped with his alt, Facepulldps. I am in love with this potential implement.
*Brain explodes with excitement*

God I hate Douchetank.
Skyrei Jan 7th 2012 7:20AM
Ignoring/friending people that carries over to all your toons would be nice as well.
Addons can make it so you can do it but it would be nice if it was included with default UI

Befriending whole accounts would mess with my ability to log on to the secret characters that I like to play when i want to be on my own though, that would be a major bummer.
Medivhal Jan 7th 2012 5:23AM
Me happy.
Uriah Jan 7th 2012 5:59AM
Sounds useful, hate cluttering up such a list. Account wide solution!
lolikitty Jan 7th 2012 7:30AM
The ability to ignore entire accounts could lead to amusing situations. One day you put Lvl5TradeTroll on ignore, and suddenly, your good buddy FriendlyWarlock logs on and is on ignore too ...
waz Jan 7th 2012 12:50PM
And this will "hopefully" reduce the number of Lvl5TradeTrolls .... sounds win-win to me :=)
arctercon Jan 7th 2012 9:48AM
"Possiblity"?

I, for the life of me can not understand why, other than spamrmers, anyone would want to ignore anyone let alone an entire account. After all, one poorly built toon or a toon used that is not played that often does not make a bad player. Gee I see it all the time, lets kick so in so, just because he cant keep up, or kick the tank cuz he is a jerk (damn there are a lot of these) but i am off topic here now.
Blizzard should take care of spammers and sexually oriented problems, after all that is one of those things we pay for.
Players should remember, this a game and learning to get along with jerks is part of life.
andrew.m.love Jan 9th 2012 3:29PM
This is a game that people PAY for and we should not be forced to repeatedly deal with A-holes. If YOU want to kep hearing from irritating morons be my guest but I'm willing to bet most people would rather not deal with.
LynMars Jan 7th 2012 12:12PM
Because of people who are being harassed by a player and try to ignore that one character have to then /ignore any and every other toon that person makes to avoid harassment--even with turning them in to Blizzard, it takes time, and a lot of those bans are temporary. We've seriously had someone who would come back every couple years to troll a particular player associated with our guild, on various alts, with other friends helping him. Being able to stop harassment right off the bat on a player's own would be nice.
If someone is a jerk on one character, making foul-mouthed commentary, racist or sexist slurs, making things difficult for the rest of the group in the party just because, then it's fairly likely that person is going to be a bigoted troll on their other characters as well. There's a big difference between That Guy and someone who's struggling to learn to play their class/role in a new dungeon; those people I'm good with helping out.

"Players should remember, this a game and learning to get along with jerks is part of life."
While true, that's also very simplistic, and games are the epitome of trying to get away from 'a part of life'.
This would be for all the stalkers, the griefers, the sexual harassers, the crazy gm from your old guild who has abandonment issues, and the guy who's technically not breaking the restraining order because he's on the other side of Kalimdor. :p
jdryner Jan 7th 2012 12:28PM
It's not the poorly developed characters of the characters...it's the poorly developed characters of the players that call for account-wide ignorance. That being said, if you don't like my comment, contact Finneous/Coldmeiser/Rathwyn on Drenden, and we can trade realIDs and ignore each other. :P
