Most other classes with multiple dps specs have had to switch back and forth between at least 2 specs (thinking of the pendulum of arcane and fire for mages, marksman and survival for hunters, combat and assassination for rogues, all 3 specs for locks). I would say it's fairly unusual that one spec has been completely dominant for so long, and really not that bad a thing that warriors get forced to use something other than fury for a bit.

Anyway fury isn't SO terrible that it's unusable, so if you're like me and don't give a rats ass about topping meters and just wanna be like "me grok hit thngs with 2 big axe!" you can still do that and be at least somewhat effective.
