I'm a fire mage and I love it. I always have. I love the look of it, the sound of it - the explosiveness just FEELS powerful. I began to feel it during the start of the Burning Crusade, when I was in my high 50 -low 60s. I began to LOOOOVE fire crits! Early on, I didn't think much of Ignite but about that level, I noticed the numbers ticking away over the mob and thought "oooh . . .that Ignite thing is pretty cool!"But right now, it's much more than that. I love how it plays. People may scratch their heads when I say that some RNG adds to the fun, but it does, as long as there is a decent chance for things to go right. Is it frustrating when you only get a Hot-Streak at the end of a fight? Yeah. But the feeling of excitement is even greater when you get a few good pyros off in the middle of the fight (OHH and if they crit . . YEAH!) Lining up the DoTs just right (along with the Combustion cooldown) at a good time is just sooo much fun!!! I love that there are enough things to do, to watch, and hope for, without becoming overwhelmed by having TOO much too keep up with. I have a comfortable enough rotation/priority without it becoming boring. I also love the versatility in that I have a good mix of single-target burst damage, DoTs and AoEs, and some spells I can cast on the move.
