I little bit of politeness goes a long way when it comes to gear. It's only polite to check if the gear that isn't in the spec you are running in, is needed by people running in that spec.
Truth is, I love what they have done with the raid finder in specifying who they intended the gear for. I was in a group where the shaman won the caster staff that dropped off the last boss. Normally that would have half the raid/group in an uproar, but the fact that shaman are clearly listed on the staff as being one of the classes it was intended for, silenced most of the complaints before they could even start.
