3 time-saving WoW keyboard shortcuts you may not know

- Shift-clicking a crafting material in your inventory with the appropriate craft box open will search for patterns that include that mat. I can never remember if my jewelcrafter has already leveled past some gem or other, but with this trick I can easily check. Also, if I pick up some meat and don't know if I have a recipe for it, shift-click searching lets me know. You probably already use this trick for searching in the Auction House, as well.
- Shift-clicking the icon for a letter in your mailbox will put all items from that letter into your inventory. I find this invaluable for sending items to my bank alt. Note: This will delete the letter from your mailbox if there is nothing written in the letter itself.
- When someone whispers you, you can /invite, /ginvite or /tell them by entering the first letter of their name and tabbing until you get to the correct one. Only people who are not already in whatever you invited them to will show up in your tab list. So, for example, if you are inviting a bunch of people whose names begin with R into your raid, only the ones who have whispered you but aren't already in the raid will show up for you to choose from. This is very helpful if the name of the person you want to whisper or invite has a special character in it. When replying, you can also tab through all of the people you have replied to in the current session, but you probably already read that on the tooltips when loading.

I can't stand it when I have a professions pane open and i'm trying to separate mats but it links that mat in the chat box instead. #oppositeoftimesaving

Looking for a specific level of gear?
You can look up specific levels of gear by typing the appropriate level you're looking for into the search window.
If you're looking for gear that requires level 19, type "19" or, you can look for all gear up untill 19 by typing "1-19" etc.

meh you can use postal to auto loot your entire mailbox. but the crafting one is cool. I never knew about that one.

is there a way to disable the shift clicking behavior? I am constantly fighting the ui, and forced to close my crafting book all the time when I just want to pick up a specific quantity...
I hate that functionality so much....

If you are linking into any window (auction house, crafting) hitting escape one time will allow you to continue on with shift-clicking to separate stacks while leaving your windows open.

@Quidamtyra, that doesn't work in the scenario they're talking about. I have this problem constantly; the first thing I tried was escaping out of the prof search box, but the same thing still happens.

I usually click on the chat window, that way the cursor leaves the dialog box in the profession pane and things I shift-click don't go into that box.

You can also shift-click the name of the person who whispered you to insert their name into the chat window, so typing /ginvite then return will invite them. Very handy especially for names with "international" characters in them.

Of course when someone whispers you or they type into any chat channel, clicking their name will auto-prepare a /whisper to them.

I used greater-than and less-than symbols in my 1st post. These were treated as invalid HTML tags and thus the text displayed was rendered invisible. It should read:

In addition to this, if you simply click on someones name, you can whisper them. You can also click TAB when your chat box is open to cycle through people you have whispered.
The /ginvite comes in handy, if someone whispers you, you can shift+left click their name and type /ginvite, instead of going through the UI interface. Same thing works in a party/raid, just drop the g.

The mailbox recipient dropdown pulls from your guild AND your friends list. f you have a bank alt you regularly mail to, add them to your friends list and you can get their name by typing the first character or two. (Especially nice if you've ever mailed to the wrong person because of a typo.)

The default interface will fill in the first name on your friends list starting with that letter, BUT if you have altoholic installed, it will default to your own characters first, which is extra nice.

I know of quite a few time savers, not all in game, but well worth their weight in gold!
if you shift click on someones name after they've whispered you it will put their name in, so you could /ginvite [shift-click on their name] and it will enter their name.
Macros help out with Milling/Prospecting...
Things not in game (or not completely tied to game):
Using F3 to do a search on a webpage with a keyword.
CTRL and left or right will go to the beginning or end of a word.
Shift+CTRL and left or right will highlight the word for cut/copy.
Might be more, but I'm at work and at a loss now..

Will create a macro button that will always prospect all elementium ore in your bags as long as you have stacks of 5. If you have an odd (non 5 multiple) number in a "higher" bag slot, it will give you an error. Send odd bits to an alt or your bank, or put them at the end or bottom of your bags to avoid this error.
Same goes for milling. Fun tip, if you add, /use Obsidium Ore to this macro, it will auto prospect all obsidium ore once it runs out of elementium. My milling macro has almost all of the herbs in the game on my scribe. I fill my bags and go to town, almost as hard as my arc mage... 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1.
