The Queue: 64-butt client

Which World of Warcraft client does Mike Sacco use?
Abbadon asked:
Do you think we'll ever get any gold or auction related titles?
I've been thinking it would be cool to have the title "Auctioneer" for posting some ridiculous amount of auctions, or maybe to stop players from just posting crap, successfully selling X items via the AH.
And while it's not a lot of players, there are more and more getting gold capped... Something like "the Gold Hoarder" would be pretty cool for hitting the gold limit.
I don't believe we will ever see gold-related achievements because gold hoarding and amassing fortunes in WoW is part of a meta-game many participate in, but by no way Blizzard wants to say, "Here's another reason to artificially inflate your gold amount by purchasing gold for these rewards." There already is a title in game for what used to be a large sum of gold -- of the Shattered Sun costs 1,000 gold after achieving exalted reputation with the Shattered Sun Offensive.
It's not that Blizzard hates the Auction House or that Blizzard doesn't want people to play the game and collect gold. Quite the contrary, in fact, since the last thing Blizzard did to the gold cap was raise it. Rather, by putting in achievements that can be cheesed just by holding a certain amount of gold or driving more people toward purchasing gold just for an achievement, Blizzard only exacerbates its already-problematic gold selling issue. I'd rather just ignore the whole thing all together and put achievements in game that are more substantial than gold-related feats.
B-Rush asked:
A Question/Thought...
Blizzard is trying to eliminate gearing issues every patch it seems. The recent LFR change (can only win 1 out of a pair of items each boss) is a nice change, as I've seen people win multiple tokens multiple times now.
What about, NO loot off each boss, but instead at the end of a Dungeon/Raid, giving everyone in the group a goodie bag. Each bag would be based on your spec and each dungeon would have a different loot table, they might contain anything from 50 gold, a rare mount, or a new chest or weapon.
This would eliminate the loot ninjas, loot traders, etc. I simply can't see a problem.
While Blizzard wants to make gearing up easier because gear is one of the biggest barriers to entry for raiding and grouping, they are still very much married to the old-school EverQuest loot style where a creature has a chance to drop the loot you need. Points and badges were introduced as a booby prize sort of stop-gap to help with gearing issues, but we watched during Wrath of the Lich King as badge gear almost took priority over dropped gear. Blizzard has since recanted on that, moved to make points and badges less of a factor and still have bosses drop random loot. It's part of the fun of raiding -- forcing yourself to hate shoulders for the rest of your WoW career. While Blizzard could give everyone a loot bag at the end of the instance, I think it would much rather have the random loot drop off a boss and for a player to use some points to make up for the missed luck. The ninjas, loot drama, and so on are all part of the system and an unfortunate byproduct, not the aim.
blazenor asked:
Question for the Q:
Do you think gamers receive the worst customer service or to put it another way, do gaming companies have the worst customer service?
I don't think so. There are far worse companies out there in terms of customer service, but really, each company is unique. Blizzard's customer service has always been top-notch for me. I've never had an issue.
Another company that has always given me great service is Bose. I bought some in-ear headphones from Bose, and it has never had a problem fixing them or replacing them. So yeah -- thanks, Bose.
Andre asked:
Is there any possibility of a column similar to Reddit's "AMA" threads? I was thinking something along the lines of 15 Minutes of Fame, but the readers ask questions instead, and the person goes through answering them. What do you guys think?
I love this idea. I kind of want to pitch it to Alex as a "WoW Office Hours" kind of thing. If this is something you'd like to see, especially more interaction with the columnists, let us know here or tweet @alexziebart.

Run LFR, 500 valor for about an 90 minutes. BH 100 VP for last boss when it's up. First 4 bosses in DS normal 100 each... viola... no 5-man heroics.
Nothing forces anyone to run any particular 5-man heroics, though the Q is shorter for the new ones. The new ones are easier and require less time... the path of least resistance... wins again.

Ah, good point Loop. Fortunately, I think there are enough new 85s at any point in time, that 10% is probably lowballing the odds there, but I see how it would be a little skewed towards the HOTroics.
llcjay2003 Jan 11th 2012 11:33AM
They are good for nostalgia. But I still don't ever want to see Grim Batol again.
Puntable Jan 11th 2012 11:37AM
Not what Loop said. I don't mind HoTs being a part of the other randoms. I guess it's a bit hard to explain. Right now, you can do HoT and get through the dungeons quick and painlessly, for the most part. If you queue for the "easier" dungeons, it takes longer, and you have a 99% chance of having some clueless newbs in your group. What I'm asking is, do you think that everyone will get so tired of HoTs that this will change.
shatnerstorm2 Jan 11th 2012 11:50AM
As someone who purposely avoids queuing for normal heroics for fear of getting Deadmines, SFK, Stonecore, or ESPECIALLY the troll heroics - not to mention the undergeared players - I'd have to say I'm gonna spend most of my time queuing for the new dungeons.
Bapo Jan 11th 2012 12:23PM
If I could have it where it excludes the troll heroics, id do the cata ones for sure. BUT UNTIL I get Varothens brooch, I'm not running those other ones. Stupid trinket.
Puntable Jan 11th 2012 12:55PM
Sorry about the last post. I thought we would be past raiders hating on casuals by now. On the other hand, Smashbolt makes a very excellent point.
Puntable Jan 11th 2012 12:59PM
Reply fail. Giving up for today.
Riari Jan 11th 2012 2:05PM
Maybe. But as long as Grim Batol or the troll heroics are in the rotation...yeah, I'm running the new heroics till I get sick of them.
clundgren Jan 11th 2012 3:41PM
It's such a screwed up dynamic right now. The newest instances, that award the best loot, are the shortest and easiest by far. Then the original instances, which people are already forgetting how to do. Finally, the "middle" instances, ZA/ZG, are nightmares now that they aren't being consistently run by people who know what they are doing.

Here is an idea for an in-game feature: The ability to send a percentage of any gold you loot into your bank to save up for purchases (ie: mounts, materials, etc).
Not really a question I guess, just an idea.
zackwbrandon Jan 11th 2012 11:16AM
I like the idea of having a bank of money. But it does seem a tad redundant. Unless you were referring to using it like layaway. That could be cool.
Rhüarc Jan 11th 2012 11:21AM
There is an addon called NazScrooge that will do something similar. It creates a personal "lockbox" that you can send a portion of gold to. The gold sent to your lockbox becomes inaccessible without using the addon's commands to withdraw the gold.
I found it very handy when I was leveling new toons to help save up for the different riding skills and mounts whenever I rolled on a new server and didn't gave my bank alt's mass wealth to bankroll everything.

Does anyone know of good WoW item databases that aren't hooked into Wowhead? Don't get me wrong, Wowhead is great, but I'm trying to farm recipes for the Black Dragonscale set, and two of the recipes are listed as being drops from certain mobs, but aren't subsequently listed in the loot tables for the mobs themselves, making me wonder just where the heck they're supposed to drop from.
This could be alleviated if WoW had a posted work orders system, but that's a gripe for another day...
kingoomieiii Jan 11th 2012 11:21AM
MMO-Champ has an in-house database, but it sucks BECAUSE it isn't tied into wowhead (just provides a tiny link).
Often the Wowhead commenters on a particular recipe can clear up where it drops.
kingoomieiii Jan 11th 2012 11:24AM
Also, the two dropped recipes both only drop from mobs in BRD, so in this case WoWhead is correct. It's often WAY off on world drops, though, you're right.
The boots and breastplate are purchased from NPCs in the Bar.
Smashbolt Jan 11th 2012 12:30PM
What king said. World drops are so freakin' rare that the drop statistics on WoWHead are usually iffy at best... but I don't think Blizzard publishes this info themselves, so user-created DBs are all we got. So WoWHead and uhh... Thottbot?
Pebbles Jan 11th 2012 11:20AM
A gold or auction related title, LFR loot issues, and customer service. Name three things Mike Sacco likes in his pants.
Noyou Jan 11th 2012 11:34AM
You have been in Mike Sacco's pants and live to tell about it??

Q4theQ I just saw the news of the 64 bit client on the PTR. I was wondering if someone could explain, for those of us nerds who aren't super techno-savy, what exactly will be the benefit to it? I have a great computer: Windows 7 64 bit, 12 GB ram. Faster loading? Better Framerate? Both? Neither? I don't know too much about this stuff and didn't really get much info from the blurb you guys did on it.
