Yeah the hit thing was big mess with me on LFR, and Fire land stuff. But now that I almost fully gear with new stuff haven't had much of an issues.

As for old school and new school instants. I think once everyone plays it out so much it will go back to normal. Unless blizz comes out with something else lol.
