I've ruthlessly (but not obscenely) harangued people who have rolled need on loot that isn't proper for their class or spec when there were others there who clearly needed the loot. Hunters rolling on int gear while leveling, tanks rolling on DPS plate, warrior and paladin tanks rolling on 2H, etc. Yes, they can use them, yes, it's okay to gear up your offspec while running in another role, but NOT when there are people in the group who need the loot for their current role NOW.
So, if you do that in a group I'm in, you're going to get shamed. Relentlessly. Until you leave the group. Because that sort of bullshyte is not called for, ever. Wouldn't do it in a group with your guildmates? Don't do it with a group of strangers.

What if you would do it with your guildmates and friends?
I've never had guildmates or friends that cared. Unless we're going for something specific, we go with an upgrade is an upgrade as long as you have the specs. We might do swaps or trades later, but that's between us.
I know it's a frowned upon position here and I'll get downvoted, but LFD rules are currently NbG. By demanding Main spec after loot drops, YOU are changing the rules mid run. That would make YOU the scammer and ninja.
You can argue the loot rules should be one way or another. Both are equally fair and unfair. But attacking someone for a fair roll is out of line. You are bullying someone who won the roll fair and square because they don't fall within your "perfect world". What if that was some small kid on the other end? Do you feel like a big man now that you just forced some poor kid to hand over an item? Do you want their lunch money too?
The real question is would you yell and berate someone in real life because they took the last cookie? More will come if you try back later.

Right - so it's perfectly acceptable when a hunter rolls need and wins a tanking trinket at the same time a tank is rolling? Or a tank asks if anyone needs a dps piece that drops, the rolls need and wins anyway after someone says they do need the piece? Not in my book.
Looks like I'm the one who's been downvoted, laughably. Well, you can say it's a fair roll, but that doesn't mean it's a socially acceptable thing to do. I would be amazed though if you would really effectively ninja items your own guildies might need, and if that's true, thank god I'm not in your guild. And anyone old enough to run endgame heroics at this point is old enough to know better.
