The Queue: Pie party

I threw a pie party last night, and I'm still recovering. There were two pumpkin pies, courtesy of my Kitchen Aid stand mixer and me, as well as two Ikea almond cakes, tons of cupcakes people brought, and lots of alcohol. There's this amazing bottle of Septima Malbec sitting on my desk and maybe ... just maybe ...
No, seriously, Malbecs are the best red wines. Even people who hate reds love Malbecs. Go purchase, now. Drink responsibly. How about some WoW questions?
ZodiacDragons asked:
I've been wanting to ask this for awhile because it seems like talk of faction leaders keeps coming up, but didn't Blizz say sometime at the end of wrath that Lor'themar was going to play some sort of role in cataclysm? I think I remember seeing a blue post about it in an article here but can't find it. I think if ANY faction leader needs lore development, it's that guy. At least Velen has that "end of the world" prophesy to fall back on.
So my question(s) are: did Blizz say he would play an important role in Cataclysm? If so, what happened with that plan? If not, what are the chances of him having an important role in MoP?
You're right. Blizzard was originally going to have a conflict occur between Lor'themar and Grand Magister Rommath, who was going to defect to Cho'gall's Twilight's Hammer cult much like Archbishop Benedictus did for the Alliance. Sadly, those stories did not play out in the game itself, and the Benedictus storyline was co-opted into the Christie Golden novel Twilight of the Aspects and the Hour of Twilight 5-man instance.
Also, an important fact that we all have missed could be the biggest takeaway -- we still have not seen Lor'themar's leader short story. The only other leader we have not heard from in story form is Velen, and he is thought to be just as useless as Lor'themar. Hopefully both of these characters' futures are spelled out in their stories.
kyle asked:
Should Goblins and Worgens have been neutral races? I think Gobs fit really well into the Horde but the more I see Worgen the more I feel it was shoehorned in.
I do not think that either the goblins or the worgen would have made very good neutral races in an expansion. The world is slowly moving toward sides, and the goblins' neutrality is still very much a slippery subject whenever you deal with ultra-capitalist, try-hard explosives engineers. The worgen are very much human and very much tied with humanity pre-Second War, so they would have never worked with the Horde, period. If you need further convincing, I can send Matt Rossi over to your house for a multi-hour lecture on the hatred King Greymane and his people had for the Horde and the orcs.
Philster043 asked:
Do you think Blizzard will go back and change anything else in the Old World in Mists of Pandaria (other than Theramore?)
Yes. I believe you'll see a lot of pandaren integration into the world in many ways -- breweries in cities, pandaren NPCs, some small settlements. Nothing like a new capital city or anything, but definitely some flavor and presence. One of the biggest complains about the goblins and worgen -- much more so the worgen -- from Cataclysm was that after their respective starting zones, the new race just disappeared. For worgen, the change was stark. One moment, you were fighting off the undead forces of Sylvanas, and the next you are fighting in Darkshore against rampaging trolls. It just felt jarring, and you never saw another worgen until Fiona in the Plaguelands or the denizens of Surwich.
Blizzard has learned from this cataclysmic (LOL) complaint and will give the pandaren a better presence in the game world than the worgen received. Breweries in the capital cities would be awesome, now that I'm really thinking about it. Dron's Distillery could actually exist in game! Make this happen, Blizzard.
zackwbrandon asked:
You have just been given Metzen's job. The first thing you do to the WoW storyline is...?
Reboot it, Christopher Nolan style. Metzen will play a much more meaner, leaner Thrall who wears all black, skin-tight clothing and trains at a snow-top monastery. The Joker will be voiced by Cam Clarke.
icepyro asked:
Will major US radio stations ever play innovative music again or will this kind of music forever be doomed to remain in the realm of college stations (which don't quite reach to where I live) and occasional, weekend features on sites I frequent?
Real, underground, new music can be found and found in mass quantities online. It's out there. You just have to be really lucky. And it's free on internet radio, too.

I know a lot of people that would come back to wow if they could play as an etheral
ZodiacDragons Jan 15th 2012 1:29PM
IMO, Bring Ogres back to the horde first THEN lets talk about getting the ethereals. Ogres are long over due
Gordal Jan 15th 2012 2:05PM
I must be the only person who doesn't like the Ethereals. I'm not a fan of their hissing, wind-like voices and the electric buzzing of their structures and gubbins puts my teeth on edge. In fact, pretty much every sound they make annoys me.
And... Well, let's be honest, do we really *need* the Ethereals? They don't exactly bring anything to the table. Imagine the job interview.
"So, uh, what can your race bring to the World of Warcraft?"
"Well, we are a race of intergalactic transdimensional travellers-"
"So are the Draenei. And the Burning Legion. That doesn't exactly inspire trust, does it? Go on."
"Well, we're capitalists who-"
"Yeah, we've already got those."
"You do?"
"Goblins. They're about ten times funnier than you guys too."
"Bugger. Uh... Well, we've got these really funny shadow-like movement."
"All that tells me is that the animators were slacking that day."
"Well... We're a national stereotype of-"
"Pandas."
"Excuse me?"
"Are you pandas? We've got them just unpacking their stuff in the attic room. Do you have anything that's truly unique or interesting?"
"Let... Let me get back to you."
"Yeah, you do that."

And hey, if they start adding the older races as playable race, then more models would get an update.
Until eventually we're on like the 46th expansion and every humanoid race except humans and orcs get a graphic update.
ZodiacDragons Jan 15th 2012 2:26PM
While I'm sure your post is going to inspire some etheral love comment, I highly enjoyed your post Gordal XD that was pretty funny. Personally I dont care either way if etherals become playable. Ogres are the way to go and they should have been brought in to the horde instead of Goblins for Cataclysm. I don't think I'll ever be able to get over that and it makes me sad cause I forsee new races not being high on the priority list for future expansions.
Orrine Jan 15th 2012 2:44PM
I would come back even though I didn't quit :P
Justin Jan 15th 2012 5:11PM
It's certainly an idea with plenty of merit. Two rival Companies, one for Alliance, one for Horde. Pit them against each other directly in the starting zones, and have the expansion focus on going FROM Outland to other worlds visited by the Burning Legion, in preparation for battle against Sargeras. The Ethereals are starting to directly feel the squeeze from the Legion, and that's their motivation for joining up with us.

Goblins are like Ferengi. Ethereals are like Ferengi who REALLY don't give a !@#$ what happens to you.
I like their visual look, their voices are nice, and their run is nice, but as a playable race? Ethereals basically don't have any use for "fleshies" as they call them. In fact, the only reason they are humanoid is it makes their customers easy around them (they say this themselves), as their natural form is shapeless. The only thing they like about "fleshies" is they spend money. Otherwise, what happens to you means nothing to them.
As other people have mentioned, their wraps are their only visual clue outside of their electric-looking forms, so once you start wrapping them in gear, they are going to look like a generic human.
And how exactly are you going to customize their look? Pull off some off-the-wall stuff like different colors, lightning patterns, or cloth patterns?
They just wouldn't make a good playable race as-is, and their customization would basically be limited or so goofy it would ruin the look of them.
Puntable Jan 16th 2012 10:53AM
I'm going to disagree. For Etherials to be a playable race, Blizzard would have to give them faces. Then they wouldn't look much like Etherials anymore. You have the body covered in bandages... which will be hidden by the player's armor. What other defining features do etherials have? Moving like a slideshow as if your computer was running at a really low FPS? I don't think that would be very appealing.

The third question got me wondering:
Was there going to be more of a worgen presence in Azeroth and did it all get cut due to Blizzard having to rush to get Cata out on time? We know that in the beta, there was a Gilneas/worgen park in SW, which could indicate that maybe the worgen were going to level in the EK or give them a better racial "capital" than the single tree that they currently have.
It just always felt like the worgen presence in Kal was tacked on, excepting Felwood, because they, after deciding to have the worgen level on Kalimdor realized that they didn't have any worgen there so quickly replaced several Alliance quest givers with worgen in places that never made sense. Then you have the 80+ zones that only have two quest giving/allied worgen in them. Unless the two in Goldrinn's shrine are afraid to be in their worgen form or something.
Darkshore- Really just one and he is handing out the same fishing quest that we got from Gump?
Ashenvale- A worgen that can talk to the elements? Isn't that a shaman's job? Unless they are seeding worgen as shaman or something.
STM- Didn't the Horde kick the worgen out of Gilneas? So while the H/A are having a war on their doorstep, the worgen are more concerned with killing baby black dragons?
Felwood- Good to know that we have worgen that just want to make a new home for themselves and be best friends with the Horde, until the Horde slap away their offers of peace and sanctuary. For a race that "lost" their country to the Horde, these worgen are awfully forgiving. While worgen in Felwood make sense, their peaceful attitudes to the Horde doesn't. But then that pretty much explains all of the worgen's attitudes towards the Horde which is, unless we are fighting for Gilneas, let's be best friends.
LynMars Jan 15th 2012 1:31PM
There's like, one Worgen army cook in the Barrens, who sends people on meat-gathering quests too. That's the only other one I can think of--and he's in Human form the whole time, it's his quest flavor text dialogue that marks him as Worgen.
Random one-off NPCs scattered through the world didn't work for the Draenei, and they don't work for the Worgen, especially when people feel they have to play a Horde alt to get "the rest of the story" when it comes to some fairly major NPCs and situations that affect Gilneas, the characters, and Shadowfang Keep's revamp.
KLRMNKY Jan 15th 2012 2:00PM
@LynMars
I remember that guy, personally I thought that he was touched in the head, or he really wanted to be a worgen but was never bitten or something.
It's a similar situation with the two "worgen" in Mount Hyjal. The guy makes mention of his worgen brethren, but he never turns into a worgen even at night like the two in SW do. And his wife/sister is dressed like a druid, but never goes into worgen form, and doesn't mention being a worgen.
Which makes for some very confusing things for the players. What's the point of the worgen if you have NPCs that stay in their human form the entire time? Wolfheart told us that worgen prefer to stay in their worgen form because of the added bonuses they get.
And SFK... mein gott... my first time in there was confusing as hell. Who is Ivar Bloodfang? Why is he helping the Alliance? I never saw him in Gilneas, but I remember that the Bloodfang pack was attacking us and turned my character into a worgen. So why the change of heart? Godfrey and his croonies are alive? WTF... did the Forsaken rez them? Why would they do that?
Then I played Horde-side Silverpine and suddenly SFK make a lot more sense Alliance-side. That's really lousy storytelling. At least with Deadmines, the Horde storyline made sense and you didn't have to play Alliance-side to understand what was going on.
loop_not_defined Jan 15th 2012 8:30PM
When was there a Gilnean Park in Stormwind? I played the beta, and also kept close tabs on not just MMO-Champion, but other websites that didn't really mind the NDA. There's been a lot of speculation of rebuilding it, yes...but never seen anything close to confirmation.
Andrew R. Jan 15th 2012 12:20PM
What is the piece of Deathwing by the Earthshrine in Stormwind? Is it a scale or piece of his armor?
robsmith77 Jan 15th 2012 12:31PM
I always thought it was a part of his jaw.
eel5pe Jan 15th 2012 12:55PM
if im not mistaken, its a fragment of his jaw, the same one we loot off when we kill him (minor spoiler?)
Maymer Jan 15th 2012 1:40PM
@eel5pe
WHAT!? WE KILL DEATHWING!?
Dude!!! Spoilers!!!! What, now you're going to tell me something crazy like we actually stopped the Lich King, killed Ragnaros, or something like that, right?
...Why is everyone giving me strange looks?

What's the reasoning behind only having instant log-outs at an inn/main city?
