i really hate that Dawnslayer fight, and even though i know to keep behind the tank, i can never predict where that will be after each move, so my DPS always falls through the floor.

It is best if the tank just backs up each time. The trick is not insulting the tank by asking him/her to do so to begin with.. well.. really.. not insult HIM. Because I do not think anyone outside of a male between 9-14 years old would get insulted by that.
