On the subject of "Howdy" - one night a group of guildies and I were tankless, so we queued a healer and three DPS. We got Well of Eternity. Tank popped in, I said "Howdy," and he dropped group. Guildies jokingly blamed me for being too nice and driving him away.

Next tank (different from the first though) popped in, I said "Howdy..." and he dropped group. WTF?

It happened one more time - seriously - and then the FOURTH (undergeared) tank pops in, and types, "PLA WANNA TANK?" (since we had a DK and a Pally healer). We vote kicked him.

Ahh, but the FIFTH tank - the fifth tank stayed (despite my dogged insistence on being friendly and "Howdy-ing" him), and we finished the instance with nary a hiccup.

True story.
