There used to be a quest where you summon an elemental that took place at the center of that rock formation. Now it's flooded over. But yes, it was by design. Does anyone remember the particulars of that quest? It's been ages since I did that one.

Actually, it is the place where the rare water elemental mob spawned.
Was quest mob pre-cata as Lugh explained but now just there if someone didn't kill it.

Thank you! I remember now. I did it on my paladin to get the trinket back in the days when paladins had no ranged abilities. That quest chain took you all over hither and yon. My paladin still has that trinket for sentimental reasons.

If I remember correctly, a rare water elemental spawns in the center (Aquementas the Unchained).

Yes, rare water elemental spawns in the center. And the bodies are part of the scenario, you cannot "kill them all in the center".

That was part of the old It's a Secret to Everybody quest chain when you summoned Aquementas to acquire the Silver Totem of Aquementas. This was the final step before confronting Blazerunner and completing Linkens quest.

I miss random quests that have no or little lore to them and take you all over the world for a cool reward
