cataclysm raid rules from blizzard basically killed my guild. though lack of endgame content hasn't helped either. :(

Heroic Deathwing's on farm then?
How much endgame content would satisfy people, really? A full tier each month?
There's a finite amount of content Blizz can produce. Maybe the problem with endgame is the players and not the game.

That's not new content.

Hey blackdog, mind elaborating a bit about how the cataclysm rules have changed your guild?
And Bril, you're not being fair. There are blue posts admitting that an unfortunate side-effect of the Azeroth revamp was less endgame content. It's a theme they hit over and over again at Blizzcon when discussing how Pandaland will be different from Cata. There was even an article on WoWI yesterday debating whether the tradeoff was necessary and whether the same needed to be done for Nrend and Oland. It's really not up for debate that there is less endgame content than there was previously- there's fewer factions, fewer 5-mans (even counting the revamps), fewer raids (including an entire canceled tier), fewer raid bosses, and even the rate between patches has been glacial.
By your analogy, any player who declares themselves "bored" with the game has no right to complain unless they have beat H. Deathwing. And are a rank 1 gladiator. And have every achievement in the game. Etc.

Don't be dense. Compare WotLK engame content to Cataclysm end game content and tell us which had more. Even if you exclude Wrath's extra tier, ToC, you're left with 3 12-boss raids with 1 extra heroic mode only boss, and 2 single boss raids. Cataclysm had 12 bosses and 1 heroic only boss in the first tier, then a 7 boss raid, and an 8 boss raid.
Obviously, there's more to raid content than just bosses. Don't get me wrong--I've enjoyed Cataclysm raiding, but you have to admit the raids have been somewhat lazily designed. BWD was basically a circle with a room for each boss. FL was a monochromatic mess (more boring than lazy really), and DS is almost entirely composed of pre-existing areas (using not one but two old god maws like we saw in highlands). Every Cataclysm raid put together doesn't feel like it took as much work and soul as Ulduar alone.

I don't think it should be a trade-off at all. Blizzard needed to revamp the old content not because current players were clamoring for it, but because WoW was becoming quite bad at retaining new players; trial players, after all, had only zones and quest lines mostly created in 2004 to play, and the age was showing in bad ways.
So, they did the revamp because the game needed it badly, allowing every player access to it even without purchasing any expansions at all, and peg it as a Cataclysm feature. I really don't see this as being honest with the players.
If the content that is only available to players who purchased Cataclysm is less than it should be, Blizzard should have admitted that they only had half an expansion, and charged for it accordingly.
