Pokey-slow NPCs on escort quests have long been the butt of player jokes, but with more extensive NPC participation in the
patch 4.3 5-mans, I've started wondering if things are going from bad to worse. Shortly after patch 4.3 hit, I wrote on Twitter that Tyrande, Illidan, and Malfurion in the Well of Eternity are all shining examples of
players who would be vote-kicked from the average PUG.
Really! Think about it:
-
Tyrande runs out of arrows, still manages to pull aggro, and then stops DPSing entirely past a certain point during the Mannoroth fight.
-
Illidan thinks he's leet and never shuts up, and he's also the archetypal Go Guy from Wowcrendor's How to win at PUGs and Gear Score.
-
Malfurion goes AFK before the boss fight and then (conveniently enough) shows up while loot is being distributed.
So does this mean that the average person with a bit of common sense is a better player than three major lore figures? I think it kinda does. This is not to say that all NPC participation in your questing or 5-mans is bad (
Anduin Wrynn during the Alliance's
pre-Twilight Highlands quests is pretty cool), but I hope this isn't a sign of more to come. Oh, and Thrall -- epic ground mounts are not expensive these days. You have no excuse.

I yelled at Illidan for standing in the fire the other day...

Yes, I have to say I preferred Jaina in the 3 ICC 5-mans (not so much Sylvanas, because she's a self-important, callous b*tch in them. I also dislike her voice "nnntheLichKing is never without his blade!" What's with the "nnn"s? Anyway...). It was just enough NPC participation to avoid getting annoying.
That's my 0.02$, at least :-)

Sylvanas can take down an impenetrable ice barrier by shooting it with arrows!

definitely tyrande, its almost like her accent is draenei-esque. id also kick thrall for sure, if we needed to tell a party member we need to advance after every pull, id shoot myself. especially
i it was the tank..

What is bad about an accent? Xenophobic?
ravyncat Jan 17th 2012 9:25AM
She does not sound like any Night Elf in the game...that is what is so bad.
I expect her to sound like a player Night Elf--which she has the entire time--or like Azshara.
Not like whatever the hell she is doing with the weird accent.
I did not play WCIII so I am not happy she has the same accent she apparently had there. My only experience is WoW and it seems vastly out of place.

I personally like Tyrande, but Thrall's got to go until:
1. He gets an epic ground mount or a better wolf form. I mean, seriously. One of the best shaman of all time and he runs around looking like a scruffy little coyote.
2. Can pull his own weight in DS, specifically on the final fight. If the dragon aspects can help out Thrall can toss me a heal.
Jorges Jan 17th 2012 10:56AM
I thought Tyrande was Indian. She sure sounds like one. Other than that I don't care, she's hot :p
Thrall on the other hand, has to go. You have to push him on every pull, and he doesn't even have a mount.
Evelinda Jan 18th 2012 12:59AM
Ugh, her accent is so annoying. They could have at least gotten a voice actor who sounded a little like wc3 tyrande, rather than getting one who sounds like she was rejected from the draenei voice actor casting call...
razion Jan 17th 2012 8:07AM
Thrall really has no excuse to not mount--he had a wolf back in WC3. He rode it throughout nearly the entire campaign. Where exactly did it go?
Zaet Jan 17th 2012 8:27AM
Died of old age =(
or he eat him
cant really say
Angus Jan 17th 2012 8:41AM
Thrall's been forgetting mounts since the Burning Crusade.
Remember him having to steal that Paladin's mount in Old Hillsbrad? Heck, he somehow managed to steal a fast mount and only go 60% extra. Still trying to figure out if he had the brakes on or what.
As for his Ghost Wolf, I call HAX! I have mine glyphed on my shaman and he was pulling away. He's faster than a normal Ghost Wolf. Not that it matters, cause he apparently knows how to ride a Red Drake mount. Cheapskate didn't pay for his like I did.
Jere Hunter Jan 17th 2012 8:45AM
and that mount that he 'Liberated' during the Hillsbrad escape, yeah, he has had mounts, I dunno, maybe he did eat them (or Garrosh did :D)
Nathanyel Jan 17th 2012 8:55AM
Angus: Not even 60%, you can outrun him in Travel Form.
ElrithCC Jan 17th 2012 9:35AM
it's in the hour of twilight novel i think. Thrall leaves his wolf in safe keeping with someone I don't remember.
srodrigueziii Jan 17th 2012 10:53AM
Yeah! He's like a sheep in wolf's clothing.
Xaklo Jan 17th 2012 12:30PM
Why oh why does Blizz keep making escorts that are too fast to run with, but to slow to travel with while mounted? Even when I'm on my shaman I out run him. (he's probably at some weird speed like 125% run speed -_-)
Xantenise Jan 17th 2012 1:24PM
Not to mention, he pulls before the tank is ready!
musicchan Jan 17th 2012 3:55PM
Nathanyel: No you can't. I tried to run with him on my druid and I kept falling behind. o.O
I figured he was going 50% speed, as opposed to my 40%
yagamimoon Jan 17th 2012 5:53PM
Only the wolf? What about going melee, dropping only one totem, and pulling aggro like a noob? D:
