The Queue: Dwarves, the answer to everything
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
Really, what aren't dwarves the answer to?
If Blood Elves were split as suggested in the article, what Alliance race would be most likely to become available to both factions?
The dwarves. There's a good split already between the Dark Iron and the rest of them, so seeing the Dark Iron dwarves go to the Horde wouldn't be a surprising plot turn at all, really.
I think the least likely would be dranaei. They really never have gotten along with the orcs, and I don't believe there's even a faction within them that has ever really cozied up to the orcs.
RG Smith asked:
When does everyone think we'll get our next info dump for Mists? I figured we'd have gotten some new stuff by now just so Blizz could lure anyone on the fence about subbing past the sw trial.
I'd hope soon, as in the next few weeks. It's been a bit since BlizzCon, and there hasn't really been any other major MoP news since then.
I think one of the big things that Blizzard can do better this go-around is release information in a more consistent manner. In Cataclysm, there wasn't a significant website update for something like nine months. But given what most people are expecting as a "soon" release of MoP, it shouldn't be a surprise to see things start coming out any day now.
March asked:
With pandaren being available for both factions don't you think that will screw up pvp a bit? I mean besides nameplates I would have no idea that's a friendly shaman panda and not theirs...I may be wrong though.
Nope. Blizzard said that it's discovered few people use silhouettes to identify enemies. They're more likely to use nameplates and other addons. Given that, there's no reason to restrict the creativity -- thus, pandarens.
Brouck asked:
With MoP and the increased emphasis on Horde vs. Alliance is there any chance we will see faction specific raids? As in two entirely different raids with different bosses, layout, lore and such?
I highly doubt that. The cost of producing two different raids that'd each only be used by 50% of the playerbase wouldn't be a wise business move, nor would it be good for lore, group cohesion, and gameplay systems. You'd see guilds split, internal conflicts run amok, and twice the amount of balancing work for a single tier of content.
I do think there'll be specific lore cues in each raid depending on the faction, much like was done with the Gunship battles. But that's as far as it'll go.

Really, what aren't dwarves the answer to?
- Ale problems? Dwarven ale.
- Woman problems? Dwarven women.
- Rock in your way? Get a dwarven miner.
- Dark elves? There's a dwarven army for that.

I concur, Dwarves are without a doubt my preferred race for, well, just about anything!
evoxpisces Jan 17th 2012 11:15AM
Dwarves are cool and all but they're no goblins!
Bapo Jan 17th 2012 11:24AM
Dwarves > goblins, I'm sorry to burst your bubble.
Boz Jan 17th 2012 11:49AM
*Most armor looks very good on them without visual stretching of the textures typical of the taller races
*Their animations are visually appealing for both sexes, casters, melee, and ranged classes
*Their selection of faces, hair, and skin tones are varied and well done, particularly since 3.0.2
*Unlike most races, I have never tired of the voices (which gets important after the hundredth, "I can't cast that yet")
*Tons and tons of lore; we'll never run out of evil to fight and Legendaries to equip with these guys continually digging it all up
*Best beards in the game
*Have you seen the original cinematic with the Dwarf Hunter? Reason enough to play one
*Because Gimli > Legolas
*Brewfest
*The Bronzebeards
*Best /flirt and /silly emotes in the game
*They're not goblins

They're alliance and therefore worthless.
miked Jan 17th 2012 1:37PM
If dwarves could be druids I would play no other race.
Draelan Jan 17th 2012 1:08PM
I rolled a dwarf DK a while back just because I didn't have any dwarven characters at the time, and you know what? You could give me a free character change/customization/whatever and I wouldn't change him for the world.

Comparing dwarves and goblins is silly. Compare Goblins to Gnomes! You can compare dwarves to trolls, I think that is a more fair (and harder one).
I would totally roll a dwarf lady, with the Wildhammer skin, and all those tats. Damn, she's fierce.
clundgren Jan 17th 2012 1:50PM
If you all love dwarves so much, why don't more of you play them?
(BTW, try playing them, at least through the new starter zones. You get to see what Moira is up to, and there's a really good feel to the zones).

Can anyone suggest a good Dwarves only guild?
Legs Jan 17th 2012 2:40PM
Ugh, female voice emotes are easily the most grating in the game, even moreso than the female gnome ones.

"Their selection of faces, hair, and skin tones are varied and well done, particularly since 3.0.2"
Is this some kind of joke?

@Mord
WHU - Warcraft Hunters Union on Icecrown. Dwarven hunters only. Level cap is currently 75.
Jorges Jan 17th 2012 3:56PM
I'm not a fan of the bearded little people, but I'd take a Dwarf over a Goblin any day!
Arrohon Jan 17th 2012 4:05PM
Personally I think that Legolas is only slightly cooler than Gimli, but every dwarf in the Hobbit puts every non-Gandalf character to shame.

Q4tQ: Why is everyone so focused on only letting the evil half of races join the horde? Sure, Garrosh is kinda mean, and noone but the undead really know what they're up to, but the orcs of the horde haven't done anything bad since they stopped drinking the blood. Thrall is saving the planet! The darkspear tribe is saving everyone from the threat of all the other trolls, the tauren of the horde have never done anything bad, and the blood elves have been redeemed. It's always the humans who are breaking the peace treaties, wiping out tauren settlements, being racist and not noticing the difference between orcs of the horde and blackrock orcs/fel orcs, or grimtotem and tauren of the horde, or scourge and the Forsaken. And what about the ongoing fiasco with the Defias? If you ask me, the alliance are the evil ones here. You guys can have Kael'thas and his baddies, Maiev and her sentinels, the dark iron dwarves and all of the humans, and we'll have the good dwarves and the good elves. Everyone knows the Draenei are just looking for people to help them fight the burning legion (or more likely do it for them while they escape again) so you guys can keep them, even though they're more likely to be neutral or fleeing when the burning legion turn up again.

Indeed. Given their rather tribal nature, I would expect the Wildhammer dwarves to be a better fit for the Horde. They even have a good history with the elves of Quel'thalas, and now that Silvermoon is aligned with Orgrimmar, that gives a possible avenue lore-wise for an improved Wildhammer/Horde relationship. More recent events (Cataclysm-era) may have deep-sixed that possibility, though...
Marco Polaris Jan 17th 2012 6:35PM
Except that the Dragonmaw are now members of the Horde, and the conflict between the Dragonmaw and the Wildhammer was one of the big stories this expansion. And even if the Dragonmaw (and the Revantusk) weren't involved, the Wildhammer aren't exactly the kind to forgive and let live. They're probably one of the most xenophobic, conservative races in the Alliance right now.
Shammwich Jan 18th 2012 1:48AM
Anyone saying that the dark irons would be a possibility for joining the horde needs to re-visit blackrock mountain. Roll through blackrock spire, see what the horde did to the dark irons there and tell me if that memory will fade in the minds of the dark iron dwarves anytime soon. And to those who say well it wasn't really the horde, to a dwarf it wouldn't matter. I think the horde has an enemy for life in any dwarf, no matter the clan.
Sinthar Jan 18th 2012 6:38AM
@ Katherine
Well done you have the most one sided blinkered view I have read on any blog. Just TRY an alliance toon and read the lore up. From the alliances view, the horde have broken every alliance attempt at peace, with forsaken attacking, torturing and converting everything they can get their hands (claws?) on. You also dont seem to know anything about the slaughters the horde routinely seems to perform, and then cry about the poor tauren (no really I like the tauren - my fav horde race), after one 'commander' lost it. Not that Im defending the alliance - their not perfect, but neithers the horde, they are BOTH as bad as each other in many ways.
You obviously dont know you are actively fighting the 'good' dwarves in Cata. Basically your post is full of one sided propoganda. Believe it if you will, but its not correct. If you want a TRUE overall picture, remember this. Both sides will firmly believe they are heros - as thats what Blizz wants, and will manipulate the lore fed to both sides to support that view.
In that way it mirrors RL far to much to be comfortable, as I am 100% confident if every decent person learnt what their goverment did 'on their behalf' they would truely be horrified.
