The thing that helped me progress in DS the most was having practice mode in RaidFinder - I can try out my wacky ideas and spec tweaks on a live practice dummy, ideas about the best way to approach a boss percolate out through the community faster, and I learned the dance moves much earlier than I have on older content. And I got my tier 4-piece a heck of a lot faster than I might otherwise have done.

I suspect that without LFR many guilds would not be nearly as progressed as they are now.
