The Queue: Why I welcome the Dragon Soul nerf and why you should, too

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
The progressive Dragon Soul nerf that was announced last night should have been expected by everyone. It's something Blizzard has done constantly, and I'm a tad surprised that so many people feel like it came out of the blue.
The progressive Dragon Soul nerf that was announced last night should have been expected by everyone. It's something Blizzard has done constantly, and I'm a tad surprised that so many people feel like it came out of the blue.
The biggest complaint I've heard is that the Raid Finder was meant for the easy modes. The Raid Finder, while good, isn't for everyone. Some people really hate pugging -- so much so that they'd rather not play the game than have to pug. There are some people who are just interested in running content with their guild, and if their guild doesn't want to run the Raid Finder, then it's normal modes.
The Dragon Soul raid nerf will do nothing more than allow a wider base to see more content -- and that's a good thing for the game, for the community, and for the future of WoW. And that is something we should all be supportive of. Even more so, there are groups struggling on various aspects of normal and heroic Dragon Soul. If you're not, that's awesome. Pat on the back, tip of the hat. But ... not everyone is so lucky.
If you're hardcore and don't want raid with the progressive nerf active, just turn it off at the entrance. Problem solved; now let's all go kill some internet dragons.
Philster asked:
What pop culture references should make it into Mists of Pandaria, and what shouldn't?
Anything about Doctor Who shouldn't make it in. Everything about SeaQuest DSV should.
Thundrek asked:
What's the Blizzard take on the SOPA bill? What would it mean if it passes for sites likes these?
Blizzard hasn't taken any official stand, and neither has Activision.
What would it mean for a site like WoW Insider? To be honest, I don't know. I do know that our parent company, AOL, has lawyers who would be heavily consulted to determine the feasibility of running content like WoW Moviewatch or Around Azeroth. We have a good relationship with Blizzard, so I don't think anything would happen on that front, but could P Diddy Puff Mommy get upset that some artist is making fun of his/her stuff in a WoW movie parody? Yup. And could that mean we'd be in trouble with SOPA/PIPA? Yup.
Either way, if it happens, we'll just have to wait and see what the particular results are.
Also, all this should only be taken for my own ramblings and not in any way a statement by the site or our parent company.
Robert asked:
How much time does a person have to spend staring at their own armory before they can be considered a narcissist?
After 11 hours. Ten hours doesn't count. It doesn't.
Grimmwrath asked:
Not sure if anyone noticed this, but a major retailer's website (wal-mart) advertised a "pre-order" of MoP, citing a ship date of April 1st. The picture wasn't even a finished box cover. What gives?
That information is horribly inaccurate and should not be trusted. Best Buy reached a new level with this when it even put out a sign advertising Diablo III's release date as Feb. 1 but later had to take it down because it was wrong. Blizzard is the only source you should trust (and well, us, when we report on what Blizzard says).
The box art itself isn't an indicator of anything, either. It's just whatever their internal graphic artists came up with. Probably made in MS Paint.

These replies are as dumb as they're hilarious. As soon as someone shows even a fragment of skill as a casual player they're automatically treated as no life elitists. Amateure psychology attempts by trying to make things personal with information Sinderion knows nothing about.
I am in a casual guild. Players at the age of 25-35. Players who have children, work and other events that come before playing WoW. Therefore getting a 10man run once a week going is not an easy feat. And when the players show they're not the most skilled and/or geared. I consider us naer the bottom of casual players who enjoy the pace at which they clear content. We still manage to take down an average of 1 boss per night.
I just can't imagine there are even worse players around then us that need a nerf. Then again seeing the players in HoT HC's who don't even know to use BAine's Totem against him, interrupt Jaina's frostvolley and stand in the flare cores... I guess there are people with no skill at all. But really...just like real life. Why should we cater to even lesser beings the lowliest that already excist. You're not improving anything. Just enjoying the crap and making it worse. Idiocracy is rising every year.

See, your issue is this: you're basing your enjoyment entirely around how other people are (or in this case, aren't) able to complete the content. You are able to clear it. That's great. We're all proud of you.
Now, how is Joe Schmoe in < Lords Of Chaos And Darkness &rt; being able to complete the instance affecting your enjoyment? It shouldn't be. He's off in some backwater server with "baddies" having the time of his life and getting epics. What he's doing doesn't affect you in any way, shape, or form. If you let this bother you, you lose. You're the one sulking about the game while the so-called "baddies" are having fun.
Perspective. It helps to have it.
I disagree with the nerfs because I felt the difficulty was just about where it needed to be. Obviously, Blizzard and a bunch of people disagree with my assessment of the difficulty and want it easier. So I shrug and figure that victory was a forgone conclusion for me anyway, it'll just make it faster.

Dude, you got issues.

Since Sinderion wants to make idiotic conclusions involving real life. I'm pleased with mine and the accomplishments. But WoW is magnifying glass of real life society however. In-game there are a lot of douchebags and even retards. Yes I do mean the mentally challenged kind of the word retard. In real life I even come across people that can't even close a window or shut off the water after washing their hands. Not even mentioning the individuals that can't say a sentence without swearing. All in all. My life is better then most trailer trash I meet on the streets and in-game :D
sauron_1969 Jan 19th 2012 3:02PM
And yet you fail to see why you come off as an elitist...

Did you accidentally type "wow.joystiq.com" this morning when you meant to type "mmo-champion.com"?

Wait - that doesn't work here?
Dammit.

That's true , they do abandon older zones, solo-ing winter grasp is always weird. I like the idea, otherwise it's a long way to go without any new content at all. I would like winter grasp to just be folded into the BG cycle. Is there a video that shows the work it takes to create anything in game ? Like how much work is it to create a weapon or armor or to make a raid finder include older raids ? I am not a computer person, perhaps it would benefit the community to see some behind the scenes.

Well JJ defined himself well enough in the original post, but that Sharkeater seems like a pleasant enough fellow.

I was thinking that being in LFR was giving the casual every opportunity to see the current raid content. Now they want to make the normals and herioc's easier by 5%, stacking per every month. Lets give the whiney casuals everything. Normal Dragon Soul is a joke as it is. How can you not defeat it????? WTF . Lets go back to actually having to work your way up in tiers like in TBC.
I saw a post on MMO champion about how the CATA initial dungeons on normal and herioc were to difficult... LAWL you got to be shitting me. Oh wait you actually have to be self aware and pay attention to mechanics in a dungeon, you have to actually play your class correctly, blasphemy! Why are they making stuff so easy??

(Curmudgeon Time)
Haven't we seen enough References after Cataclysm? Can we at least get a time restriction on them, so they'll actually be funny after 3 months.
I'd much rather run into a Blood Elf called George and his Ogre buddy Lennie than that CSI: Westfall prat again.

I have a question about "The Classifieds" weekly feature.
Where is it? the last one posted was on November 2nd last year and I would very much like it to return. My guild was advertised on it last year around maybe Feb and with it came one of the GREATEST additions to our guild in a very long time. I'm hoping to repeat this as we're trying to form our second raid team.

Emergency question regarding the Mobile Authenticator restore option. having issues getting my new phone restored. instructions say to type out exactly what your Serial is...so example is US-1234-4321-1234, but the phone only lets you type US123443211234. Im using a current restore code each time i submit and its telling me my code is incomplete. does anyone know what i may be doing wrong?

since blizz has increased server connectivity a lot, how do you think a war effort (like the opening of AQ or the isle of QD) would work if linked on a regional level?
