I'm wondering if the Moonwell Chalice is any good. I know it's not as powerful as the Foul Gift, but for a fire mage, the ability to hit that mastery booster right before throwing out your combust might be worth it. I find that often I'm tossing out combusts without the Gift active because I really can't afford to ignore that fireball crit.
I also have to wonder if there's a better add-on that Combustion Helper. As far as I can tell, it really doesn't help you find a good ignite too much. Or am I reading it wrong?

I was going to mention this as well. A flat 340 intellect boost and an on use 1700 mastery boost every 2 minutes isn't so bad for a starter trinket. I've got this and foul gift, which I'm not upgrading until I get the two raid finder trinket drops. Any upgrade that's not on this list *ahem* bottledwishes *cough* would mean losing at least 340 intellect, which isn't worth it just to boost iLvl. Non raiders could certainly do worse than the Moonwell Chalice.

Moonwell chalice is a solid trinket. I just don't know if its worth the trouble to get. Foul Gift being comparably easier to get. Moonwell taking a couple of weeks to get or Foul Gift taking 3-4 (or more if you're unlucky, but still) runs.
At best, these trinkets are equals. I'd say because they fill the same trinket type (Passive Int + Mastery) and Foul Gift being easier to obtain, that's why it wasn't on this list.

You may be missing some of the method of using CombustionHelper. Let me see if I can help you by explaining my thought process and what I'm looking at during raid casting:
-Using a combination of CombustionHelper and combat text I watch for that opportunity via watching for crits. I know about how large a single Fireball or Pyroblast will crit for, so if I get two crits in a row I'm probably in business. CH acts more as a reaffirmation that whatever I suspect just happened actually happened. It also acts as a learning tool to hone your instinct of when to use Combustion.
CAVEATS:
-I want to use Combustion on at least a 15k ignite AND Living Bomb up. Hopefully there will also be a Pyroblast DoT.
-2 Crits happen BUT they were simultaneous Fireball and Pyroblast - that means one of the ignites is almost certainly munched, and the DoT is only for one of the spells.
