I don't think that it was intrusive when the Mt. Dew "Game Fuel" ad campaign happened, and we got compainion robots in WoW that could be given red or blue fuel, like the red and blue versions of the WoW-labeled Mt Dew drink. The robot was just another companion pet, and there was no mention of the real-world product in game, thankfully.
The most intrusive "ads" in WoW have been things advertisting WoW/Blizz itself, such as the Mr. T grenade, the Blizzcon mount, and the 7th anniversary tabard.
