Raegwyn and friends claim first all-death-knight Firelands
Part 1 of their adventure has the band of blooders facing off against heroic mode Rhyolith, Alysrazor, and Baleroc. My favorite moment of the video is at 7:30, when all 10 players simultaneously pop their Army of the Dead right before the pull. Part 2 includes normal Beth'tilac, heroic Shannox, normal Majordomo Staghelm, and the fiesty firelord himself. Some of the fun moments here are watching the sole surviving death knight tank Shannox for his last few hundred thousand hit points, and marveling at the talent of these 10 players on the incredibly high-magic-damage fight that is Ragnaros.
As an enhancement shaman whose preferred form of making money is soloing old raids like Caverns of Time: Mt. Hyjal, Raegwyn's videos constantly both amaze and humble me. I get excited when I can manage to down Karazhan's chess encounter weekly, but Raegwyn is a player who constantly manages to push the boundaries of traditional playing, and I'm always excited to see what he has in store for us next. If you'd like to read more about Raegwyn's approach to soloing and what he considers to be the hardest aspects, check out Lisa Poisso's interview with him.

wow

Simply that ..... WOW. That is a benchmark of greatness in my opinion.
ravyncat Jan 25th 2012 6:56PM
Wow indeed.
This my friends. THIS is why I play a DK.

I want to be like them when I grow up. Hot damn.
Sidebar, eff chess. Eff chess so hard upside the head. I spent months, literal months, farming for the paladin lookalike pants from there. I'd get it just about every week, usually after clogging gchat with a stream of profanity so coarse it would make Hellscream blush, but nooo, those frakking pants never dropped. Y'all have no idea how loudly I whooped in gchat when I found out that a similar pair dropped from a BC heroic. Went out, got those pants after two runs into the Black Morass, and haven't stepped back into Karazhan since.

Raegwyn deserves much more recognition than he gets--his soloing feats are some of the most impressive displays of skill and dedication I've seen in the game since the Burning Crusade.

Mione is better, and beat raegwynn to a lot of his "achievements" this however was pretty astonishing. INC blood nerf.
facepalmer2 Jan 25th 2012 6:42PM
Ok, as interesting as this is, am I the only one who feels like deathknights are potentially unbalanced for them to be doing this. Does this not make the game designers or developers a tad uneasy. It's really cool but I am just unclear on weather design wise this is acceptable or not. Cool video nonetheless.
Othgan Jan 25th 2012 6:49PM
Thankfully, most DK players will never reach the skill level these guys have or else blizz would have to remove the class because no one would be able to play one at an acceptable level due to extreme nerfing.
MysticalOS Jan 25th 2012 6:53PM
agreed, if it was normal firelands i'd be like meh, but they are actually downing heroic modes on level appropriate content. I that isn't broken i don't know what is.
Josh Myers Jan 25th 2012 6:55PM
There's an argument to be made there, sure. At the same time though, this is nerfed content that they're barely scraping by in. It wouldn't work in any of the current heroic modes or comparable normal modes, like Deathwing.
I'm not going to argue that death knights aren't blatantly overpowered in terms of their soloing potential, but at the same time that's really not something that the game should be balanced around. So yea, they're really powerful in this context, but overall they're pretty on par with all other tanks for current content. (They're actually slightly better, but that has more to do with AMS being a potent cooldown and less to do with their self-healing.)
ravyncat Jan 25th 2012 6:55PM
I would say they probably aren't uneasy at all because just any random DK off the street can't do that. That is 10 really good DK's.
Arrohon Jan 25th 2012 6:55PM
10 very skilled players doing non-current content. I doubt they're worried about it. Now, if people were to start kicking dps off their teams for more blood DKs to do Dragon Soul, Blizzard would hopefully get a change into effect asap. Just remember, these guys are the exception, not the rule.
Obidiah Jan 25th 2012 6:58PM
That's what Im sayin!
Siln Jan 25th 2012 7:05PM
The thing is if you saw an all-paladin or all-druid raid doing the same thing no one would look twice. It's hardly a balance question, when blood dks still remain a squishy pve tank, and after the upcoming nerf will be little more than plate-wearing nuisances in pvp. I say big kudos to these 10 for playing a class to its full potential. And to anyone who questions how "op" dks are, I say go make one, find 9 others and try the same feat.
StClair Jan 25th 2012 7:21PM
Siln:
I was about to mention druids, and you're right about paladins as well.
AquaWrench Jan 25th 2012 7:52PM
Blood DKs are indeed unbalanced (dare I say overpowered?), certainly in PVP right now. I'm by no means a super skilled player (which is why I play a Ret pally - haha!). But I can hold my own against every class and spec... except for blood DKs. Competant blood DKs and holy pallys are far harder to kill than basically any other class, and blood DKs do a lot of damage too.
But all that said, this is a most impressive feat! And big kudos to them on this PVE success. It took a lot of skill, and they deserve the attention and praise!
ScrubRogue Jan 26th 2012 6:52AM
I could care less what they do in PVE, this video is awesome and their achievement awesome! However I do get a tad unhappy when I have to face a Blood DK in arena, *right click* /leave.

"No healers, no DPS ... just 10 tanks."
Aha, but see, that's the thing, these aren't ordinary tanks; these are Death Knight tanks. With their use of two-handed weapons, they are more DPS-oriented than traditional tanks, and their generous amounts of self-healing allow them to be their own healer if they can play their cards right. In fact, attempting this feat with 10 Death Knight tanks allowed them to cover for the weaknesses and amplify the strengths of an individual. While Death Knights are prone to taking bigger hits than other tanks, having so many in the group allowed them to juggle aggro back and forth. They could then recover from those big hits through all of them using glyphed Rune Taps; since each Tap restores 10% health to the caster and 5% to the rest of the group, 10 Taps used at once restores 55% health (30% if I'm misreading it and it only affects the players in your particular 5-person group) to everyone in the raid, even more if they make generous use of Vampiric Blood.
monotype Jan 25th 2012 7:31PM
That's brilliant, I don't know why I didn't realize that. Holy crap. And Rune Tap is on a hellaciously short CD, too. 55% health back every 30 seconds? Yes please!
Pyromelter Jan 25th 2012 7:33PM
DK's also have battle rez too, they definitely used that in those vids.
