Exclusive: Watch "Race to World First" documentary free through Feb. 3
The whole sprawling scene plays out onscreen in the feature-length documentary Race to World First -- and you can watch it free right here at WoW Insider now through Feb. 3. (The film is also available at RacetoWorldFirst.com for a small fee.)
The Looking for Group Productions film, begun back in the day when clawing to a top spot on raiding progression charts was perhaps at its cut-throat peak, follows a handful of top-tier WoW guilds in their sprint to the top. Producers John Keating and Zachary Henderson conducted some of the early interviews for Race two years ago at BlizzCon 2010's WoW Insider reader meetup, including familiar faces like WI Editor Adam Holisky and GM/actress/huntress extraordinaire Michele Morrow.
Get a peek at this film for free while you can right here at WoW Insider. Who knows what in-game challenges you might feel up to tackling after seeing that much fiery motivation in action?

We would like to thank WoW Insider and Lisa Poisso for all of the support over the years. Lisa has been helping us with the film and getting the word out about our project since the very beginning and we are very appreciative.
Thanks for everything Lisa.

So glad to be even a tiny part of something so many people are passionate about!

"It's like Normandy Beach landing. People are dying everywhere!"
Well you don't want that when you're gunning for world first. XD

Dude. Get a life. Just because your epeen doesn't measure up doesn't make it crap. I don't raid because I don't have time, but I appreciate anyone who is passionate about something and puts in the extra effort.
Good on these guys for going the extra mile for something they care about.

I like how the guy with the beard, the law student, thinks that those people around him aren't judging him... they are. Look at their faces. He has no chance with that blonde. I play WoW, but I don't let it rule my life for 35 hours per week. OK, I'm not in the top raiding guild, I don't even raid all that much anymore and as much as I love to play WoW there's just so much more to life than sitting hunched over my computer. This documentary does nothing to dispel the stereotypical image of hardcore WoW gamers. If anything, it reinforces it.

...said the man, sitting hunched over his computer.
Jason Jan 28th 2012 12:34AM
As usual it's impossible to express an opinion when there are so many complete and utter fan boys around. @Killick: Enjoy your 35 hours per week raiding, living off your mom and fumbling with your Fleshlight...

Man... This is insane I mean I wouldn't be able to raid as much as these guys do. But I get wath they are saying....I wish that Blood Legion would get their world first =/

Downvote away, but this is my honest opinion: Man, am I glad I didn't pay for this. The first ten minutes were awesome, but then it went down hill and never recovered.
I feel for Blood Legion, not only for not getting their 'world first', but for being the centerpiece of this hideous movie.

"You've got rogues, sneaking around, stabbing you in the back. You've got hunters shooting arrows. You've got mages firing fireballs. You've got warlocks ..... Well nobody knows what warlocks do."
False. We all know warlocks are just there to summon us in and gives us free cookies.

Gratz guys for going out on a limb and making a very well filmed documentary about something so many people are so passionate about (sometimes to a fault). I hope there's more stuff like this in the works.

Well, hopefully I will be able to get this later with spanish subs. Not for me exactly, but this strikes me as a nice introductory video for people that don't know why we do what we do. (i.e. my girlfriend, who is learning english at the time, but with all the wow lingo she'll be lost in no time XD)
Congratulations to all the people that made this happen, including the guilds that worked so hard to get the achievements.

The chick from Blood Legion and the bearded dude obviously need to have angry sex to work out their issues over guild leadership. That's what I learned from this documentary.
Also: Paragon, Method and Ensidia all have at least one hottie on their team. This is why Blood Legion isn't getting world firsts. It's science.
arixian Jan 27th 2012 2:56PM
To me the gal from Blood Legion is hotter than the ladies in the other guilds so I'm not sure your "science" holds up.

@arixian Seriously?

35-40 hours a week? Wow. I really would've liked to see a lot more about how high-ranked players manage to spend that much time on Warcraft while still holding down a regular job. Or how that huge time commitment impacted their daily lives.
And I would've liked to see a lot more about the "social stigma" of playing an MMO or video games in general. It was being touched upon by the law student, but this would've been very interesting.

Depending on how it's scheduled, it wouldn't actually be that hard.
Let's say I spend 1.5 hours commuting to/from work, 8.5 hours at work and then 4 hours on WoW in the evening.
If I then spend 10 hours on WoW Saturday and Sunday I have easily hit 40 hours in a week.
Personally I don't do that (Anymore), but those hours add up very very quickly...

Mmm, it was alright. It was interesting, anyway. I kind of liked the podcast guys and how they discussed the topic more than the "case studies" of the Blood Legion members, but that's just my personal opinion. The podcast guys know how to speak to an audience in a way that I felt the Blood Legion guys weren't quite hitting.
Either way, it was an interesting documentary, although I felt like the issues that they had within their guild weren't that much different than every other guild I've ever been in, or that different from people I already know. There was a different stress level from raiding at that level, but otherwise the issues that they had, both personally and as a guild, were quite typical of WoW players.
