Blizzard looking into weapon enchant display solution

While I agree with Blizzard that iconic and recognizable looks are a great way to pinpoint what items are capable of how much damage and power, as we have seen with transmogrification, the general scope of iconic looks has changed drastically. If it's possible and feasible, Blizzard will allow us to toggle our enchants, especially after the success of transmogrification.
I realize this thread has been around for a while but the topic is still relevant. As many of you may or may not know, weapon enchants have been a feature of World of Warcraft since the beginning. Providing iconic and recognizable looks to various enchants is something that's added an element of uniqueness to the game and to your character. However, we do understand they can sometimes overpower the aesthetics of the awesome weapons you can obtain in game now. It's certainly something we have discussed with the developers recently and we'll be looking into potentially allowing an enchant toggle. If and when such a feature is introduced, we'll be sure to let the community know as soon as possible.

I'd really prefer the ability to transmog the weapon enchant and pick a different graphic effect instead of just turning it off.
Saltypoison Jan 27th 2012 1:27PM
This. I'd love to xmog the effect from the one with the dripping blood rather than the god awful power torrent animation.
Erebos Jan 27th 2012 1:28PM
I agree. As nice as it is to glance at someone's weapon and see they have the right enchant (or even one at all), it'd be much more interesting to be able to swap it for another enchant effect. I don't think I'd want to turn it off completely, but I wouldn't mind being able to put a subtler look on it instead.

Every melee would have Mongoose or Executioner :P
Cyno01 Jan 27th 2012 5:09PM
@Nathanyel, of course they would, landslide looks like my daggers are pooping.

I'd like to see them animate only on proc. This would help maximize cooldowns, allow more exciting animations, and let people see their weapons more of the time.

I would totally love this. I just got my T2 daggers on the Legendary quest line and was sad to have to cloud them up with Landslide.

I love weapon enchants, but I think what's been forgotten are the simpler, stylish ones. Enchants like Power Torrent and Landslide are so bright and distracting, they're pretty horrible with or without transmog. Perhaps they could both offer the option to hide enchant effects, but encourage people not to bother by going back to more subtle, intriguing effects rather than the disco party ones of Cataclysm.

Yes, please. I would much prefer simpler enchant displays; they should be obvious, but not overwhelming.
Khirsah Jan 27th 2012 2:08PM
Yes! Keep it simple.
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but it seems like Mongoose was a simple, nice looking enchant.
Landslide, on the other hand, makes it look like my drake ate a bad burrito.

Could we turn enchant effects and possibly even spell effects off entirely?
I've been getting by fairly well on a five year-old laptop by turning all the visuals down to the absolute minimum, but whenever a bossfight starts during the Siege of Wyrmrest Temple...holy crap, it's a slideshow. (And yet I don't have the same problem during the Fall of Deathwing, go figure.)

Perhaps a small graphic that periodically glistens or rotates around a weapon such as Earth / Water shield but isn't present the whole time.
loop_not_defined Jan 27th 2012 1:17PM
Cannot wait.
Nevermind Landslide all but hiding my weapon xmog with it's radiant glow...the black "sparks" that drop from it partially block my view when flying. It's annoying as hell.
Imnick Jan 27th 2012 1:18PM
The new enchanting effects do make it very difficult to see some of the smaller weapon models at all, let alone clearly
vlad_dracul2k2002 Jan 27th 2012 1:20PM
I think smaller, more subtle enchants would be better than the big, flashy enchants. People could still see that your weapon is enchanted, but it wouldn't overpower what you're using.
Tirrimas Jan 27th 2012 1:25PM
Nevermind weapons that already HAVE a glowy effect.
Leaves for Agility? Really? First time I saw it, I thought it was a healy enchant.
Abbadon Jan 27th 2012 1:48PM
Well, the glowy affects aren't very consistent as it is...
I have my sword transmogged with the Blade of Wizardry. The transmog actually does not show the power torrent enchant at all. Plus, the BoW affect actually lights up the area round my toon with an orange glow (as if I were carrying a torch.)
But I loved that blue saber that has been in some images, and went out and got it from the Slave Pens. What a let down... Unlike the BoW, it does not give off that same glow, and my power torrent enchant totally overwrote the blue saber affect (except for the very tip, which just makes it all the worse).
I know there's a few more glowy type swords in the game, like Teebu's, but I'm not sure how they respond to transmogging...
Abbadon Jan 27th 2012 2:00PM
Oh.. kinda missed the point of your post.....
Yea, I have to agree with you! The agi enchant make my hunter seem kinda feminine. (No offense, ladies.)
helenashcroft Jan 27th 2012 1:26PM
I hate the Landslide enchant graphics with a passion. I discovered however that they don't display on the miniature winterveil tree daggers and you don't get black stuff trailing behind you. Hurrah for festival cheer all year!

I would also prefer an actual transmog option for enchants, but a toggle would suit me just fine - they can't implement it fast enough. I am DESPERATE to get rid the visuals of Landslide and...*slight retch*...Power Torrent.
Fun fact: I use Heartsong instead of Power Torrent on my resto shammy's Vagaries of Time. It's not as good. I know. But the subtle blue of Heartsong looks so damn good, and Power Torrent is an atrocity on a mace with subtle details like Vagaries of Time (has a clock hand animation on it).
I am constantly hunting for those precious transmog weapons that feature their own glow effect that overrides my enchant. Perfect examples are my mage's excellently understated Staff of Polarities, and my rogue's Perdition's Blade
