Breakfast Topic: What are your WoW pet peeves?
Last year, the Drama Mamas answered a letter from a person whose pet peeve was being called by her class instead of by her character name. The comments showed that many people agreed with her, while others argued that it wasn't impersonal so much as efficient. Re-reading that post made me want to talk about pet peeves again. Check out this ancient Breakfast Topic by our former editor-in-chief, which asks the same question I'm asking today, or this also similar one from last year.
But I think it is important to direct you to my declaration of my biggest in-game pet peeve: "rogue" vs. "rouge." This misuse really, really bothers me. I understand that it is an easy typo, but I also believe that many people think that is how rogue is spelled. As I've said before, rouge is a cosmetic applied to your cheeks; rogue is a deadly killer who likes to make with the stabby. My common response to that is (stolen from someone else): Rouges are overpowdered. That statement often gets a mixed response from the chat audience -- many misread it and want to start a class war.
Another thing that makes me rather irritated is "ne" instead of "any" in any context or word form. It's only one letter shorter! It actually takes me longer to type "ne," because I naturally type "any" as a touch typist. I know some people can't stand "plz" as an abbreviation, but I don't mind it anymore. "Please" is a much longer word than "plz," and people like shortcuts. But one letter! Gah! I need to get over it though and take Allie Brosh's approach. Maybe everyone who does it really only has one finger on each hand. I should be more tolerant.
Now, if everyone but funsuckers severely dislikes a particular thing, I don't think that is a pet peeve. For example, someone's stealing your gathering node while you are clearly fighting the mobs protecting it is not a pet peeve -- it is righteous anger. A mammoth sitting on a vendor, quest giver, or mailbox is reportable -- not a minor annoyance (also a really good target for Baby Spice).
But someone's asking a question in guild chat that can easily be looked up on Wowhead annoys some people but not others. If I know the answer off the top of my head, I am happy to respond. Not everyone feels that way and will insist on directing that person to the appropriate online resource.
What things bother you in game that aren't necessarily universal dislikes? How angry do you get about them? Which pet peeve is the worst for you?

I agree... plus then when you're in combat and you're trying to single them out somehow in chat, it can get confusing. Personally my main has a name that i think fits well in a fantasy world but is easy to shorten, full name Faelanii, most people in chat or /raid or /bg or whatever just call me Fae, easy to type, say, spell. I wish all names were like that... it doesn't necessarily matter what the full name is but it should be easy to shorten without confusion.

I hate the guy in my raid that bitches about loot. If something drops for him and he loses the roll i see "#$%@" in chat. If his item doesn't drop he gets mad. If an item drops for his alt he gets mad. When his gear does drop and he wins he must immediately head to a city to get gems and enchants and demands we summon him back. Never congratulates anyone else who gets an upgrade. Raid attendance slacks after he gets all the gear he wants.

DPSers who demand to be battle rezzed.
People who don't know how to play their toon despite it being literally the only toon on their character screen and despite the fact that they've been playing said toon for over 3 years.
People who screw up then blame it on "lag".
People who go on and on about how much they want [insert super awesome piece of gear here]. Yes, we know you want the staff from Madness. You don't have to keep telling us every time you zone in.
When people go on and on about "wow is dying" or "[insert new game here] is going to kill wow lulz"
Neirin Jan 29th 2012 8:10PM
An addendum to number 4: people who say they hope "their" (insert piece of loot here) drops. As though no one else could possibly think of wanting it.

Pet Peeve? The way trolls and gnomes constantly open and close their mouths like fish out of water gasping for air. A gnome can hide it with the right beard but trolls have no such camo. Please fix that Blizz.

Not completely related to WoW but since you started it in your article, "loose" vs "lose" (what are you, a 2nd grader?) and "iTouch" vs "iPod Touch". There is no such thing as an iTouch, and if there is, get your grubby mitts off it.

I'm a healer and my biggest pet peeve is when i get ignored for OOM and the tank goes on and pulls and i'm out of mana and can heal the group

I solved the rouge rogue problem on Aerie Peak by naming mine Rougerogue. I haven't been called Roguerouge yet.
eveningstar_6 Jan 28th 2012 10:51PM
Actually rouge vs rogue amuses me. I always wanted to start an all female rogue guild and call it....Rouged Rogues :)

As a healer my pet peeves are Warlocks who life tap, and hunters who want you to heal their pets.
Alysandir Jan 29th 2012 9:38AM
I would have to caveat that with some qualifiers, such as locks who Life Tap in the middle of either a damage spike mechanic, or when the healer cannot safely bring them right back up, or hunters who get pissy because you "let their pet die," but did absolutely nothing themselves to prevent it.
Life Tap is a throughput ability; more mana, MOAR DOTS! To expect locks not to use this ability because the healer has to heal them is weak tea. But to use this ability when it's not safe to do so is the equivalent of playing with daddy's nail gun in a dark closet.
For BM hunters, their pet is a major part of their DPS, so if the pet dies, they are taking a significant throughput penalty. However, every hunter worth its salt realizes that pets are at the very bottom of the triage list and will proactively work to keep their pet up because they'd rather take a small penalty by having to focus on pet maintenance for a few moments than lose the pet entirely.
Both of these are examples of situational awareness. When you tunnel vision; bad things happen. When you are aware of your surroundings and the state of your group and how you need to react to any given situation, you have earned the corner piece of cake.

Hopping on my level 25 Paladin, putting on the Shield, hitting the 'RDF' button to Tank it up a notch... And watching with increasing frustration as 'Waariur' pulls mob after mob after mob.
[Me] "Stop pulling, youre not the Tank"
[Waariur] "lol calm down dude its just a lot level dungnn lol"
That... You.. I... rRAEVSFBSDGSDBVZDS

This one's related to node theft, which is also a pet peeve, but not quite as annoying - fish pool theft. Now I don't mean people who run ahead to get the next pool, but those who dash up on the one you're obviously already fishing out of and start hitting it themselves. Particularly if they're someone you've already gone out of your way to not gank on a previous pool they were fishing. Really, people - it's not going to kill you to go without that one crate.

My pet peeve....Warriors...a class that should be cool and awesome to play...so damn complicated. holy crap..this stance that stance...all these options...things to hit...
Yet we can may a 3 button mage.....not saying we need a 3 button warrior but sometimes it feels all the other classes (except rogues) get it so much easier..esp for tanking...or leveling....make them fun..give them some ability to let people play without being a math genius. I have 20 85s....2 of eveything and some baby toons cause im working on 20 violet drakes..but i hate hate hate playing my warrior...cant charge ...i got no rage..cant do a damn thing..gotta hit buttons....just too damn complicated.

People spelling gaurd instead of guard and thinking that's the right way to spell it. *sigh*

When you're on a not-max level character, and you make one suggestion, or say one critical thing, and the person you're talking to immediately demands to see your heirloom gear, or asks what level your main is. Like wtf, 85's aren't the only people with knowledge of the game, in fact, a lot of 85's (judging from the characters hanging around Stormwind) seem to be the biggest buffoons in the game (bar anyone who isn't you know who you are).
Another bother of mine comes from BG's. When people in heirloom gear try to solo EVERYTHING and ignore EVERYONE, assuming they are invincible just because they have heirlooms. Then complain when they die the entire time.

I used to be in the same guild as someone who chronically asked WoWHead-able questions (like, every few minutes). Eventually people started answering with links to Let Me WoWHead That For You and he got the message.
My biggest peeve lately has been the people who drop a group right at the start. It's not particularly inconvenient unless the tank drops, but most heroics only take 20-25 mins, which is less time than the deserter debuff.
