Breakfast Topic: What are your WoW pet peeves?
Last year, the Drama Mamas answered a letter from a person whose pet peeve was being called by her class instead of by her character name. The comments showed that many people agreed with her, while others argued that it wasn't impersonal so much as efficient. Re-reading that post made me want to talk about pet peeves again. Check out this ancient Breakfast Topic by our former editor-in-chief, which asks the same question I'm asking today, or this also similar one from last year.
But I think it is important to direct you to my declaration of my biggest in-game pet peeve: "rogue" vs. "rouge." This misuse really, really bothers me. I understand that it is an easy typo, but I also believe that many people think that is how rogue is spelled. As I've said before, rouge is a cosmetic applied to your cheeks; rogue is a deadly killer who likes to make with the stabby. My common response to that is (stolen from someone else): Rouges are overpowdered. That statement often gets a mixed response from the chat audience -- many misread it and want to start a class war.
Another thing that makes me rather irritated is "ne" instead of "any" in any context or word form. It's only one letter shorter! It actually takes me longer to type "ne," because I naturally type "any" as a touch typist. I know some people can't stand "plz" as an abbreviation, but I don't mind it anymore. "Please" is a much longer word than "plz," and people like shortcuts. But one letter! Gah! I need to get over it though and take Allie Brosh's approach. Maybe everyone who does it really only has one finger on each hand. I should be more tolerant.
Now, if everyone but funsuckers severely dislikes a particular thing, I don't think that is a pet peeve. For example, someone's stealing your gathering node while you are clearly fighting the mobs protecting it is not a pet peeve -- it is righteous anger. A mammoth sitting on a vendor, quest giver, or mailbox is reportable -- not a minor annoyance (also a really good target for Baby Spice).
But someone's asking a question in guild chat that can easily be looked up on Wowhead annoys some people but not others. If I know the answer off the top of my head, I am happy to respond. Not everyone feels that way and will insist on directing that person to the appropriate online resource.
What things bother you in game that aren't necessarily universal dislikes? How angry do you get about them? Which pet peeve is the worst for you?

@Moeru When I need to farm ores, I'll do it on my rogue...there's no easier, quicker way to get elementium than to stealth through the depths in Highlands, and there's hardly anyone in there (or if there is, they're usually having to fight off other people). The only time I get concerned is when I'm in there and see other mobs sapped...then I know I've got competition!
As to grabbing other peoples nodes; if someone's there clearly going after it, I'll leave it alone. When an Alliance player swoops in to grab it from me, I get angry, but I get it and get over it. When a fellow Hordie grabs it off me though, that's when I get irate.

I freak people out when they're fighting a mob at a node. I swoop in and help with the mob, then /bow while they mine. Either faction, it's all good. Mining Club, there's plenty nodes for everybody!

Aw man, you stole my "Rouge is overpowdered"-joke :O
Well, usually puts a few giggles in trade chat anyways :)

If you're talking about the sound notification, you can turn that off in the settings. If you are talking about the red error text, look up "perror" on wowinterface, and get rid of those dumb red sentences forever.

Oh, agreed so much. My third 85 I made a scribe just so I could skip the grind.
I would guess most casual raiders by now would accept the pvp enchant. It's the same primary stat, only you lose 25 of a secondary stat. Is that 25 secondary stat worth all that trouble, vs just buying the enchant with honor (which can just be converted jp)? Only you and your raid leader/team can answer that question.

dude, i am with you 100%... i did it once, and i just dont care enough to do it for my four other toons, so they just go unenchated and i really dont care.
blizz really screwed up with not making shoulder enchants not BoA in this expansion...

As of late, I get annoyed by guildies asking "who can make this" or sending an in-game mail asking "can you make this for me" when I can't make the item. It's not based on wasting my time, because, frankly, typing "no" takes nothing. What annoys me is that they're wasting their own time. There are features in place, use them.
Reach leads me to portal beggars. There is no portal destination in the game that takes more than 10 minutes to get to. So why do I see the same names over and over begging to go to Shattrath or Dalaran for 15+ minutes?
liliornin Jan 28th 2012 11:06AM
ahhah! This...so this. The portal thing bugs me so much. I have actually typed in Trade Chat that by the time they got a Mage to respond and give them the portal, they could have been there and on their way beyond if they had just pressed their movement keys and gone.
Also, yes the guild chat thing: I wish more ppl would look at the different things you can do with the guild window--omg...yes...you CAN find out who can make what without asking!!!!! Amazing!

My one pet peeve with wow is that if I get going, I can't stop playing. I'll max out my main's weekly things to do, then do that on an alt. Then another alt. Maybe I'll tinker with my ui. Maybe I'll work on the AH with my army of alts and professions.
Before you know it it's 6 am, and I have to "wake up" for work in about an hour.
Is it a pet peeve if a game is so good you don't want to stop playing?
Well, for an in-game pet peeve, it's carrying a raider on heroic raid bosses. It's like you can carry him/her for all but one or two bosses, then you get to that boss where there is a mechanic that, if they fail, will wipe the raid. And since I'm not one to raid lead, I can't do diddly squat about it.

I've been enjoying this pet peeve in a galaxy far far away. It's making me miss my stable of alts on Azeroth, but not quite miss them enough... not yet at least.
Mycroft Jan 28th 2012 8:49AM
I'm one of those that's annoyed by things that are easily looked up elsewhere. I'm firmly of the "teach to fish" vs. "give a fish" philosophy. I'd rather take the time to explain how to use sites like wowhead, wow-professions, and Mr. Robot, even though it eats up a lot more of my time than just giving the answer straight. Out-of-game, I'm deeply disappointed that the "let me wowhead that for you" service stopped working a long time ago. It's like lmgtfy, only for wowhead! http://lmgtfy.com/?q=mankrik%27s+wife
Not a pet peeve, but a righteous anger, but I'm getting to be a sad pandaren over the prevalence of griefers in LFR, especially on Madness of Deathwing. Killing more than one tentacle, dpsing down amalgamations before they've absorbed enough stacks, and then rushing in to start the encounter quick before everyone's back so that we don't have a chance to votekick. I've had to give up by dropping group four times so far. When I requeue I have to fight through earlier bosses again for no loot.
Noyou Jan 28th 2012 11:44AM
I'm with you on the easily looked up things. I mention sites like wowhead/wowpopular etc at least once a week. To the same people. They are guildies though. What gets me more is the simple questions people yell out in trade. You know the ones a) they should know and b) they can ask a guard about. Yeah those. The only ones I cut slack are the obvious opposite faction people. I treat them nicer so they stay :)

Mine is when people refer to me as "he" in PuGs, just because they assume that females don't play WoW. My character is female, so is her name, the least you could do is give me the benefit of the doubt! I know there are guys who play female characters but that doesn't automatically mean that *every* female character must have a male player behind it. Grrr.
J Jan 28th 2012 9:19AM
Coincidentally, my pet peeve is the opposite. It gets under my skin when people take a mistaken 'him' instead of 'her' as an assumption that girls don't play WoW or... whatever. The majority of players are male. Some people just don't pay attention and generally don't even notice the race/gender of the other toons in the pug.
While they're maybe a little bit ignorant or careless, the generalisation really isn't something to get worked up about. It's not personal, it's certainly not meant to be offensive, and it bothers me on the same level as people who get really uppity about being called their class name rather than their character name.
And for the record, I'm female, have both female and male toons, and I've never felt the need to correct someone for addressing me as a male, even while I'm on my female belf lock. I want to be treated like everybody else, and I do that by not drawing attention to the fact that I'm a special girl gamer snowflake (ugh).
Revnah Jan 28th 2012 9:42AM
Well, this is about pet peeves, so I really don't understand the downvote. Being referred to by one's class isn't exactly major, either, is it? We all have our little peeves, this is mine.
*sad troll*
Chetti Jan 28th 2012 10:41AM
Yeah, the who 'girls don't play wow' thing gets annoying. I happen to be female, and all of my toons are as well. I've don't bother correcting random people though. I'll correct new guildies, or rather, introduce myself. The guild I'm in met me on vent before my toon landed on the server to join them, so I was "Jen" for almost a week prior to being addressed by my toon name. So the people who spend a lot of time in vent with me will call me Jen even in guild chat and during raids, which is fine with me. When someone calls me by my toon name (or what they think my toon name is LOL) I sometimes don't realize they are talking to me.
My guild is a good percentage female, I believe we're pretty balanced, but.. there are LOTS of females. We joke a lot about the 'girls don't play wow' thing whenever someone new comes into vent and is surprised by the number of female voices. "omg girls!" is met with "girls don't play wow.. DUH!" It doesn't come up often, but its funny as hell when it does.
Noyou Jan 28th 2012 11:52AM
I always refer to the toon as their gender. If I'm wrong, it's not my fault :)
