Breakfast Topic: What's the worst trash pull in the game?

There's nothing especially fun or challenging about it. You stand around and DPS dragons. It lasts way too long, and the dragons have such low health that most of my DoT spells really don't do much of anything. I can only imagine how bad it must be for melee players, who barely have time to even get to the dragons before they're dead. And as a final insult, the damn dragons don't even drop loot.
Trash pulls are never really much fun in general, but Ultraxion trash is definitely a Dragon Soul low point. That's my opinion, but how about you -- what trash pull do you think is the worst? How you define worst is up to you: most challenging, most annoying, most time-consuming, hardest to tank, hardest to heal -- whatever makes you want to defenestrate your keyboard the most.

Ultraxion is bad, but the fracking waves in Mount Hyjal were worse. God I hated that.

Remember the Pheonix-Hawks going into A'Lar's room?
I welcomed the trash waves in Hyjal.
I am sure the developers were cackling when they did this.
"Okay, so let's make a mob that charges the furthest person away."
"So either the other tank sits around doing nothing or we kill a hunter?"
"Yep."
"Now let's make this thing do a knockback too. So if the raid is dumb and doesn't stack, it messes them all up. AND they have to follow the stupid thing to the new tank!"
"Okay, let me finish peeing my pants. This is good."
"AND we make it do an AOE mana burn. So the DPS stays close and gets hit or gets hit with the charge and killed. The casters are running out of mana to kill it, the healers are scrambling to heal people and the healers are getting their pools reduced to nothing too while being hurt! The Melee has to eat this too, so even if they managed to set up a thing with the tank being to far away to hit the caster group, it will still suck for the healers."
"You're killing me here."
"Now let's put them in a room with a bunch of deadly pats. If they want to have the room to not get hit by the burn and stuff, they have to deal with that. Or they can do this in the hallway, where everybody gets hit by the burn."
"Okay, got it. After the room with the 2-3 spinning deadly melee killer guys, this will be fun."
"God you suck! Let me write this down!"
Having done Shadow Labs pre-nerf as an Enhance Shaman, I feel the weight of this matters. The Phoenix-Hawks were worse.

Shadow Labs.....help...

Pre nerf SSC trash was the worst thing in existence, worse than quad mind slayers, worse than Pre nerf ignis trash, worse than hyjal waves. Nothing compared to Bog lords with seven figure health pools that spawned a bucketload of adds and respawned faster than you could kill them.

That first pull in Auchenai Crypts sucks
The first set of stuff in Icecrown Citadel
The wave of undead before the first boss in Drak'Tharon keep
The trash between Ionar and Loken in Halls of Lightning (Stormforged Runeshapers sucks!)
they fixed the bad trash is all of the pre-60 stuff with all of the nerfing...but WC had some tricky pulls...SC had a few...RFD was notorious for chaotic pulls...ZF too

Auchenai: line of sight
ICC: drag to guards
DTK: line of sight
HoL: interrupt the rune-forgers
Everything else: line. of. sight.
My first line of sight pull was day 1 in RFC.

It was wrath of the lich king- we wern't allowed to use crowd control or interrupts!

Perry is right BUT actually explaining that as the lone sane person in a group otherwise full of the "Go guy", especially when the healers themselves would pull in alot of cases.

The three tentacle packs before Zon'ozz we're a nightmare for us on the first night, I think we had close to 4-5 wipes before we started to understand it.

Hands down, it's the trash of cockroaches before Professor Putricide in that locked corridor in ICC. I believe an intern at Blizzard must have written that piece of trash.

Some of the trash back in Naxx could get rather.... tedious, but it's not worst trash in the game level. That title I'd have to give to the jousting waves in the ToC 5man. It was long, it was boring, and getting knocked off your mount was oh so frustrating.
Hierakles Jan 29th 2012 10:21AM
Game level? Blergh, wtb edit button XD
AltairAntares Jan 29th 2012 11:17AM
Definitely agree with ToC- It was very frustrating, and if you were the only one who knew how to fight them it could go on for ages as well.

Long before original Naxx ... there was a place called Molten Core. I won't bother going into the whole trash but just first two Molten Lords right at the entrance .....
Kids these days are getting frustrated on Ultraxion trash that takes maybe 5mins at most to get to the boss :P

>I can only imagine how bad it must be for melee players, who barely have time to even get to the dragons before they're dead.
It seems most of the time they also like to hang in the air, being perpetually out of range of melee. My arms warrior has practically given up trying to do a darn thing to them, and just runs around helping to taunt.
As for trash pulls, I really disliked the dwarves before Atramedes. There really was no indication what they were supposed to do, or really, why are they even there in the first place? They were really challenging, in that you had to have people alt-tabbing out of the game to read what they did, and switch targets accordingly, and invariably one or more of our team died to them. I guess because it's "just trash" people were saving their longer cooldowns.
Also, turtles in Firelands.

yeah that grinds my gears too. You actually CAN hit them if you jump up and down, but like Fox says, usually they're dead before I can get more than a swing or two in.
Telwar Jan 29th 2012 3:12PM
The dwarven lords before Atramedes were fully 1/3 of the trash in the instance. As such, they were an important source of BoE epix.
...now, you might ask "why were so many BoE epic drops concentrated in an instance with exactly 22 trash mobs?" And you would have an extremely valid question. :)
